Thanks, but I have a Kia Forte at home already, bought it discounted right before Kia Cerato was available.  biggrin.gif
Anyway, I've test drive a Mazda 6 and decided on it. It might be lethargic on low speed but quite good on high speed, plus it's comfortable and spacious.

IMHO if you need peppy response for low speed for D-segment, need to be hybrid like 330e

Mazda 6 diesel got very strong pull. But newer price is rm200k. Lol. 2nd hand unit also very few and almost non existent as for now. Maybe owner really enjoy the power hence dont want to let go fast fast. Not like mazda 2.5, quite a lot 2nd hand even recently facelift model one.

Last time service my car at sc, see accord 2.0 use michelin pilot sport 4, while accord 2.4 with stock 18inch use landsail LS588.

That LS588 price was way more cheaper than stock 17inch 2.0 ps4. Lol.

Might be 2.4 dude overestimate his spending strength hence force to compromise on this safety aspect. While 2.0 dude really spend within his means so thus he can get the best tyre in the market which is ps4.

Life always about compromise. If people dont do compromise they might force to compromise later on like above case. Just my 2 cents

I've seen many worse, expensive luxury cars like Mercs, BMW, Audi, Vellfire using all kinds of crap China tires! Many actually surely can afford buy good tires but just being oblivious and cheapskates because they think not important!

1. Brand. : Proton or Perodua
2. Budget : 25k+/-
3. Model : Persona (BH) or Myvi
3. Used
4. Specs : Any
5. Transmission : Automatic
6. NA
7. Type : 4 seater
8. Remarks : Preferably higher spec

As much as I want to keep driving the 27y/o benz, it’s starting to show its age and I'm not that confident driving it for long distance. After a recent broke down, my family members are raising the concern and wanted me to switch to a newer car.

My sister suggested myvi (lagi best), because she is happily driving her her first gen myvi. But from my experience, the lagi best generation has some changes to its dampening and I don’t like how it rides. Quite harsh on roads that aren’t perfect, especially over huge bumps.

For me, I've experienced one 2017 Persona that my friend is driving, to me it is almost in another league compared to the myvi in terms of ride and comfort. Hence I'm more inclined towards the Persona. *Plus the safety in the Persona is way superior imo

I know it is more expensive, but the budget may be negotiable. Furthermore, a myvi at below 30k are mostly 1.3L ones from 2012-2014. I know Perodua is using some stuffs from Daihatsu/Toyota, quite reliable some would say. But age doesn't lie plus wear and tear can't be reversed. Most of the 2016 onwards Persona had done about 40k KM or less, it's obvious.

I've had this exact discussion with one of my family member, and what he told me was for a 3 year old car (Persona) to sell at such a price (30k ish), there's high chances that the owner still owe the bank settlement or the car had an accident or some other issues. I feel that they will try to use this reason to manipulate my choice, can any sifu enlighten me on this? sweat.gif

I'm looking for a car to replace my old persona by end of this year. Any recommendation?

1. Brand : not into Toyota/Honda
2. Budget : below 100k
3. New/Used/Unreg : used
4. Specs : full spec preferable. 2.0/2.4 doesn't matter. So long full spec
5. Transmission : Auto
6. NA or FI :
7. Type : Sedan, C to D segment
8. Remarks : will be frequency travelling around due to nature of my job. Need a balance in power:comfortable ratio.. Nt sure if this make sense.

I'm currently looking at
D segment
Nissan teana 2.5XV
Hyundai Sonata LF 2.0 executive
Kia Optima K5 2.0 2015 Post facelift.

C segment
Hyundai Elantra 1.6 Sport
Mazda 3 GVC 2.0 high spec
Hyundai Ioniq 1.6 HEV PLUS

You can see my reply below.

Regarding the CX3, it is quite good car but I think that deal is abit high unless you getting from a relative where you know the car been taken care of well else it is not worth that high a price.

There are a few options available.
If you wish to wait then the Proton x50 should be arriving next year and would be in the 80-90k price range.
However, if you're looking for something today then there are options too.

Haval H2 - recently owned one and I find it has alot of features for it's price of 93k, c-sement body so it is wider and more comfortable to be in. It is fully loaded with spec you'd expect from a conti like auto wiper, auto lights, electric hand brake, auto sunroof, 1.5 toyota derived turbo engine, semi auto 6 speed German ZF gearbox, etc. it is quite worth the money and so far reliability has been good. Granted chinese cars the resale value drops like a rock but then it is under 100k, comes with so much spec, at the size of a CRV.....quite well worth it.

Honda HRV - the 99k spec is almost "kosong" but you get the Honda badge which usually means high technology but with decent upkeep cost and good reliability, as opposed to Toyota philosophy of ah beng bodykit, low spec, high price but low upkeep and high reliability. No much wrong with this, however if you have the budget of course go for the higher spec.

Perodua Aruz - budget new SUV, although if you asked me the Aruz like the Toyota Rush is just a fancier version of the Avanza disguise as an SUV. Although it is quite long with 7 seats it is quite cramp as it is not wide enough as it is built from a b-segment body. So it is good if you're looking for something new so less headache about spare part price, reliability and maintenance as since you owned a Myvi you surely know the merits of Perodua cars.

2012 Nissan Murano - this is a recon/import, considered the higher spec version of the Nissan X-Trail, if you don't want to go the used car route you can consider this car as buying unreg recon you are eligible for new car loan rates (used car loan rates are higher), you can also get a new number plate or interchange just like buying a new car, plus these cars usually come with some warranty from the importer do checkout what they provide -- you can always top-up and reduce where needed.

If those two are your main concerns don't bother with any hybrid or special technology.
Get something as basic as possible when it comes to engine and gearbox technology.
New tech is always going to be expensive to maintain and reliability is spotty.

Although Honda Hybrid is considered reliable and mature technology, if compared against a regular Civic then Civic is much better.

2015 VW Vento - I'm guessing you're looking for a budget sedan with decent amount of space and relatively low maintenance. They used to call this Polo Sedan but now it is renamed as Vento, same car different name. The good is it uses a standard 1600cc engine, VW calls it MPI, basically it is similar technology is VTEC/VVTI so nothing too high tech to worry about. The gearbox is a wet box from Aisin, from the guys that make Toyota gearboxes it is plenty reliable. The ride on conti cars can be considered firm if you're used to the over soft spaghetti from Nissan and Toyota, but it is not hard until harsh but hard enough that you know if you pass a speed bump abit too fast the body isn't going to dip down and scratch the road. It comes with leather seats, good safety features and the usual minimalist and tastefully done dashboard, though I don't recall the radio spec but that can be easily upgraded nowadays with android units being sold for less than RM500.

To be honest it really depends on what you really want and what you're willing to pay for to have it.

Passat VW is of course the better car when it comes to technology, safety, fuel economy and fun. However, maintenance is the highest among your chosen cars, additionally if you don't have good idea where to send it to when you have DSG gearbox failures and/or TSI engine failures -- sending it back to 3S is of course an option but an expensive option. Ballpark figures for DSG gearbox failures are at least RM3k-5k.
