Hi, recently have bought a Dell Latitude D610 notebook. But found out one thing, which is every time bootup, the post screen show the name of previous owner. I go into BIOS and try to change the "Ownership tag", but it don't allow me. Anyway to change it ?

And also, how to change the security password in BIOS ? Or clear it ?

Have tried to flashed the BIOS, but it didn't help.

Thanks in advance !

You can try what the guys say above by dismantling your notebook and shorting the bios chip smile.gif ... or you could download asset.com, copy it to a startup disk, boot into dos and run it with the relevant switches.

ASSET -- Version 2.09 © Copyright 1993-2004 Dell Inc.
Usage:
ASSET new_asset_tag Specify new asset tag
ASSET /d Delete asset tag
ASSET /o new_owner_tag Specify new owner tag (if applicable)
ASSET /o /d Delete owner tag (if applicable)

Nessus Recomendation is better cause it doesn't involve any 'hard' damage to your notebook. By mingling with Jumper sometimes it can cause ya other problem. reminder, you are dealing with notebook not desktop so always take precaution on what you do. Good luck and show us the result later smile.gif

Exactly which password do you want to clear? There are the grey screen password, the bios lock password and also your Windows user account password. For the first 2, you can try your luck by calling Dell or you could try following instructions given by http://homepage.ntlworld.com/judslat/paragon/. Note that information on the site might require you to dismantle your notebook and there's always a risk of damaging your notebook if you do something wrong.

It's the security password in the BIOS. Without the password, I can't unlock some of the BIOS setting page to change the setting. For example, wifi is disabled / off, but need to unlock the page to turn in on.

Then go to Paragon's website and pick no. 2 where it says "I have a bios password". Follow the instructions there.

Good morning !

Have tried the ASSET -- Version 2.09 from Dell. I tried to change/delete the asset tag and ownership tag, it's seem like it failed to change/delete because the security password is on. That's mean have to clear the password 1st. Anyway to do it without dismantling the notebook ? The program Masterpw doesn't work for me because mine one is not -D35B.

Thanks !

send it to the shop to reset the password switch or take the risk open it up.

usually the switch is under the keyboard panel.
