Hmmm how should i start....seems like a stupid question...anyway here goes...

How do u know the ceiling is a plastered base/concrete base by just looking at it?I reason is that i wanted to know whether i need to call the ceiling plaster or not prior to purchasing my downlight. It is a double story house.

use a stick and hit the ceiling.
if hollow, it is plaster ceiling, if hard, concrete slab.

Alternately, you can try to find any drop panel or pelmet at your ceiling
