The grind part is shorten to let new comers to meet exiting players. Once you hit level 50, you can easily buy or ask a friend straight Ilvl 190 crafters gears for you. That will push you to about top 80% of the gear set stats already. No need i50, i60, i90, i110, i150, i160 lvl up. Just save money and get the i190 gears. (or whatever crafter gear lvl the patch has now).

Buy heavensward, go through all the MSQ for feature unlocks.

Start grinding duty roulette for Tank/Healer or Palace of The Dead for DPS class, it's a deep dungeon with very fast queue at all times, like 10-40 secs on average, completion is around 10-15 minutes each round. Clear lv100 and you can obtain an ilvl 255 weapon once your aetherpool reaches 90/90. Redditors managed to grind lv30 to lv60 in 8 hours playtime, it's fast.

Then you can choose to grind lore or scripture tomes with duty roulette or go pvp and grab the garo pvp gear, it's ilvl 235.

There's also the wondrous tail system at lv60, replay old content and obtain good end game stuffs.

And then you can start farming alexander for ilvl 250 gears and bam, you are close to current content now.

Yes you can. Just go to config setting there is a button to turn off effects. However this doesn't only turn off the monks buff or skill effects, but all effect in game as well.

Hi. I am a returning player, so I might not have the best answer for you. But from what I remembered, once you crossed lvl 50, in stead of farming for time gears, its better you just buy off crafter gears off the market board as its an easy ilvl boost. To farm peotics tomes for something you will be wearing for 1-2 days before you lvl again is kinda waste of effort. Last crafter gear lvl 60 I did was straight i190. Now should be higher.

Any existing player maybe can clarify if theres any use for peotics tomes nowdays.

Just spam that msq till u reach snow cloak something. When you reached steps of faith,  then it I'd time to welcome you to heavensward.

MSQ is the only thing u need to unlock Heavensward. Unless ur goal is to wipe out all the "!" side quest in the map. xD

I reco straight head towards heavensward. That is where contents starts to really happen more aggressively. The story is awesome too. Less Fetch quest than ARR.
