Hi everybody~ flex.gif

I'm planning to get a new 20" LCD Monitor that have for my PC and future - Wii. I'm looking at either:

1) DellTM 2007WFP 20" UltraSharpTM Wide Screen Flat Panel LCD Monitor
'cos it has Analogue / Digital / Video - 15pin D-sub, DVI-D with HDCP, S-Video, Composite, respond time =16 ms typical;

or
2) DellTM E228WFP 22" Entry Wide Screen Flat Panel LCD Monitor
Analog, DVI-D (digital) with HDCP, respond time = 5ms;

Click HERE to view the specs.

are these 2 save choices for a console? hmm.gif

do I still need VGA cables if I'm getting 1)?

is 16ms too slow for Wii (or any console)?

If you don't mind looking from a distance, then it's ok.

And like the "Full Wii Experience" is having to actually do motions, like in Tennis, instead of doing small 'flicks' of the wrist, it's much more enjoyable if you actually swing a forehand/backhand.

Games that requires the pointer input(for targetting) like Red Steel, and Elebits can be playing sitting down, infact it's better, but some games require you to stand to fully enjoy the game.

Were you at Zio's shop last Sat?

From the gathering at Zio's shop, I saw you guys were playing from a Dell LCD Monitor. Is that - DellTM 2007WFP 20" UltraSharpTM Wide Screen Flat Panel LCD Monitor (the one that has Analogue / Digital / Video - 15pin D-sub, DVI-D with HDCP, S-Video, Composite, respond time =16 ms typical)?

How's the refresh rate? need any xtra cables or convertor?

I'm still looking at Dell's LCDs...

DellTM E228WFP 22" Entry Wide Screen Flat Panel LCD Monitor
Pro:
- RM 989;
- 5ms

Cons:
- 22" (still consider small, as what Sihumchai and other wii owners had advised);
- Wii -> component -> component converter -> LCD, which no1 seems to exp that yet;

DellTM 2407WFP 24" UltraSharpTM Wide Screen Flat Panel LCD Monitor
Pro:
- 24" (bigger a bit, but 27" and above better);
- got Digital DVI-D with HDCP/Analog / S-video/Composite/ Component inputs

Cons:
- 16ms;
- RM 2,599 (still waiting for Dell to lower it);

question: is HDCP = true HD LCD (1080p)?

----------------

found these at PA:
YPbPr to RGBHV VGA Box
Mayflash

XCM Multi-Consoles Component Cable V2
Farmer

PA's customers review said ok, however, when I google, can't find much write-ups on these 2 babies... hmm.gif

Technically yes and no. That's what I understand after doing some reasearch.
The LCD support HDCP is good. But your source (DVD player or game console) must also support it. And you have to makesure the right DVI -> HDMI cable.
cool! thanx! icon_rolleyes.gif I did my research... I'm still very confused... rclxub.gif

Should work, my initial idea also to do the same thing. Just that I want to be sure it's worth the investment.

I thought the wii video output is a composite cable? If it is, I thought i can just connect directly to my 20 inch dell that got composite input. Can the wii owner confirm this? cos i am planning to get wii soon and want to connect to my monitor.
*
yes, you can. 2 gatherings ago, 1 of our forumer - corez, did hook up sihumchai's wii to his 24" dell LCD. No problem.

I aware its "possible". My question is how good or how bad is the end result?
*
good or bad... I can't answer you, as I didn't attend the gathering. But I did remember some1 did attend, and think the graphics is nice.

but again, it's subjective to individuals standards/preferences/yimjimness.

i previously used to connect my Nintendo Wii to my Dell 24 inch (2407WFP) monitor. the graphics is just the same like when you connect it to any lcd tv.

about the VGA box, i also have not seen anyone tried that too
*
thanks, practice2004! Now I can seriously put dwn my heart on Dell 24". icon_rolleyes.gif

btw, how was the refresh rate? I know it's 16ms for that model, but how was the graphics turn out on the screen? got shadows/ghosting?

as far as i can tell, i did not detect any kind of lag, ghosting or shadows whatever (probably i'm not that particular about graphic - as long as i can play my games and the graphic is acceptable, i do not care)

so all i can say is, it is a good monitor but it will suffer the same problem like any other lcd monitor - backlight bleeding.

below is a picture taken when i got my replacement monitor from dell. the left is the new monitor that i got, and the right one is the old monitor (i used it for less than 3 weeks)

notice the difference? and right now, this monitor suffers the same problem. it can be a bit irritating when you watch movies and the screen should be all black but because of the backlight bleeding, you see some white spots. (you should expect this when the contrast ratio is 1000:1 and as far as i know, no LCD monitor have contrast ratio larger than 2000:1)

i still consider it a good buy.

OH! that is called backlight bleeding... I get tat quite often from my laptop.

that is minor issue to me, more like a technology handicap.

Thanks, buddy! I rest assure myself now. tongue.gif
