hi all,

what kind of cleaning agent do you guys use when cleaning ur lens?? i'm planning of getting some at my local old store, but the cleaning fluid they sell is those - red bottle lousy plastic with a printed label "Kodak Cleaning Fluid" (can be water to kerosone, who knows what they put in) doh.gif , for RM23. i ask wheter they sell original packaging cleaning fluid n they say don't have. so i didnt buy any. sweat.gif

what i know is some of these cleaning fluids can dissolve the multi-coating on the lens.

so what i want to know is, are these cheap brand cleaning fluid usable ah?? will it destroy my lens??

oh yah, can i use those cleaning fluid for eye-glasses?? is it the same??

inkle.

do you know if you wipe to frequent even with the super duper ultra magnus silky smooth macro micro fiber cloth also can scratch you lens?

just wipe when needed only..not every single time you use you wipe..sometimes when we try so hard to take care of somethings..you just damage it even more..

No need cleaning agent or whatever super agent or secret agent. It's old school soap-on-and-rinse-off for the UV filters and lens cloth for the front element. Lens tissue also seldom use.

so, it's just not to 'spoil' the lens too much, later turn into a 'spoilt kid'. tongue.gif i think the perspective is similar to having glasses, i also never use any cleaning agent, just plain water only, works like a charm everytime, some more is free. icon_rolleyes.gif guess i'll use eye glass spray. cheaper some more.

Actually, dust has very little effect on your image unless its on your CCD surface itself. You'd have to have a very big piece of dust or debris, or a cluster of dust on your outermost lens element to start to notice any image degradation because it's so out-of-focus. A big piece of debris will probably look like a blot of dirty water in your picture, and a layer of built-up dust will decrease the contrast in the area of the picture affected, leading to noticeable blurness or lack of definition.

Heck, I have a 3mm long dust or plastic sliver INSIDE of my supposedly weather-sealed lens (2nd front-most element) that I cannot reach in to clean and my images are still OK.

agreed. use blower more often, use cloth only when necessary, less contact to the lens or filter is always better

true true... damn be itchy to use the microfibre to wipe it when it's not needed. Now i have to get something else to clean my prime lens rear element.

yesterday i wiped it and now i can see those tiny lil stain lines over it doh.gif sad.gif

Those little stain lines won't affect your image as much as improper technique would sleep.gif

erm... i've got this tiny duster tht i use to remove the dust from the lens. then after removing dust oni i use a microfiber cloth tht came with my specs to clean any prints or moisture on the lens. if there is dust, when u clean wit cloth, the dust will scratch ur lens if u press to hard.
jus my 2 cents.

d_scientist, is the duster you're talking about sort of like a mini blower? I have one, used it once, and of course you know what happened....
