Bro dirtrun, I am excited for you.  All the pieces for your HT seem to be coming together nicely.  Please pos pics of the screen.

Bro psp_boy, wanna give a description of your HT setup... the room I mean.

Talking about sticking at 720p.... actually we do not have any source for 720p material locally.  My 720p material come from HDTV material off the www.  So in reality, except for the projector, there is really nothing holding us at 720p technology.  Standard DVD is at 480 and HD/BR at 1080.  720 technology seems to be in a sort of comfort zone... better than the rest but not quite up there yet.  But upgrade we must.... but we will do so at our own leisurelah.

I have yet to hear from my designer since the last time I told her I want it MY WAY.  Called her recently and she said she is "digesting" my ideas and proposal.  She will put it all together "soon", guess this is what you cal artist's privelege, cannot hurry wan.  Basically this is going to take more time than expected.

I did not get any new DVDs this week, so I am planning a run through Star Wars Ep. VI, V, and VI this weekend.

19 feet long, 15 feet wide, very high ceiling. black out drapes, even when it's 12:00 p.m. and it's blazing hot and sunny outside, I can make the room as dark as 12:00 a.m.

I guess you guys like to pay near retail prices for your purchases..
things like projectors have a large difference between SRP and street prices.. (unlike computer parts)
and as you have mentioned you were offered 5k below SRP (I think 14999) for the AE-1000 ...so going through the right channels and talking to the right contacts will get you a very good price..

that's why I got a low price for the Mitsubishi HC5000

I don't wan't to see an RS1 while I enjoy the current soon to be setup. You know that feeling when you feel yours is the best, but then another company launches one that is far superior to yours...

Gennum processor can upscale Composite to 480p while S-Video, Component, and HDMI get upscaled to 1080p

Anyone up for a demo at my house or Mediaplex once everythings settled? laugh.gif

Would be fun to see Astro in 1080p. as well as my large LD and VHS collection in Full HD as well. laugh.gif

Venom isn't dead, Eddie is

the symbiote continues to be a parasite, and will later spawn other symbiotes- Carnage, shriek, etc.

Carnage is the stronger than Spidey and Venom combines, and in Ultimate Carnage, venom and spider-man had to join forces.

end of OT

Boss, thats the problem Malaysia la.

For my preference... actually Panny AX100 was the one but you can call it lucky or you can call it bad luck... But I got to move on.

The next closest to AX100 is Panny TW700. But actually, if you look at it (through readings), the spec is better than AX100.

Now, what other models or brand I can consider?
Optoma-110% out. If you read my previous posts, I mentioned it quite a number of times.
BenQ-Where to find?
Sanyo-Not bright enough.
Mitsubishi-Not bright enough.
The rest? All not at the same par with these.

So... where else I can go?

Basically u want something that can accomodate your 120" screen. Hmm, Even if you get a low lumens projector (1200<) If u have a good light controlled room, It wouldn't be a problem, although lots of contrast is sacrificed. Blacks turn Black-grey.

Welcome back, where got talk behind your back.  We are here to support you oni.

Really funny how everyone's preferences differ, at first when I saw the AX100 my first comment was how filmlike it was and I thought it was a plus point.  Then the more I watched the more I try to focus it to try to get it sharper.  In the end the filmlike quality became its minus point for me.  When I watched the TW700, its was sharp as day and as such I did not find myself reaching for the focus ring every other minute. So I really had no choice but to select the TW700 over the AX100.  And because it is sharper I find that the picture is more 3Dlike and the colours have more pop compared to the AX100... this I found after I viewed the units that I help to sell.

By the way, I am in Bangkoknow.  In case u diden know, there was a 6.1 richter earthquake up in Laos, but it was felt in Bangkok.  The earthquake was mild but having not felt one this big before, it was quite an experience.  I went woah as the whole building shook.... felt like my head was spinning.

I just went to AV Designs with Mr. Tan, Director of Mediaplex to see James Tan at AV Designs. Went there specifically to see the JVC DLA-HD1.

One word: Awesome.

The blacks are a breaktrhough in digital projectors. Notch above the VPL-VW50 'Pearl' from Sony. The picture is Punchy, and sharp. They fed a Standard definition DVD when we went in the showroom. At first, I thought it was HD, but the Gennum Processor did an amazing job. Well done JVC!

Pearl to Mitsu and Now the JVC.

Now I'm just making a screen. Constant Image height 2.35:1, might do 126" wide, even if i change to 1.78:1 (16:9) I'll get a 100" image. Nice.

well, yeah, hope to get the best price

but even so, the price tag is 22,999 which is 10k below the Ruby, yet it is better. MUCH better.

Tim, we are not HT projector Nazi's right?  We accept all projector talk whether the owner is fat or thin.  Dunno what is PsPBoy's disposition, but we welcome his mini reviews of what he has seen.

Now the JVC, I have already revealed my adoration for this projector.  I cannot afford it now, but u know what..... its only gonna get better.... and its gonna get cheaper!!!  Note that the JVC HD1 in its present configuration is not suitable for most of us that need flexibility.  U won't be able to watch Astro with lights on thats for sure.  The HD1 is a step in the right direction, no silly gimmicks to achieve good contrast etc.  How I wish I could get one!!!
*
You're so right! Sony's coming out with the VW-60 and VW-200. VW60 might have a 4kUS price tag, but will be better than the Pearl. Technology's a b****h, If you keep on waiting, don't buy anything at all.

JVC doesn't use a dynamic Iris to get good contrast hehe.

How much is blackout cloth per yard?

I need to find the paint[s] as well for screen. But, I'm sure after all this, it'll be worth it smile.gif

Those active in this thread have already settled for a projector oledi, most are not waiting.

The AVS forum has many formula and mixes, do share which one you have chosen for your screen paint.

We are all waiting with baited breath to see your HT... sure our Dad/family won't mind having some of us over?

HAH! I researched since end of 2004 for a projector. God, the things have changed so much now. Sony launched their Qualia 004 around that time, something awesome even till now.

Then in February 2005 i think, Sony launched it's VPL-VW100, which set a new pricepoint for 1080p. It was magnificent, blacks were good back then, contrast was awesome, one of the few to actually accept 1080p[60] through HDMI at that time! Then Sony set a new pricepoint again with the Pearl, one and a half years later. It was superior to the Ruby in contrast ratio, blacks, input capability(1080p[24]), size, and much cheaper.

JVC launched it's DLA-RS1/HD1 sometime in december last year. Since then, many have sold their Sim2s,Marantzs, Rubys, Pearls. etc. For the JVC. Until now, it's only competitors are the Sharp XV21000, Marantz VP-11S1, and Sim2's HT3000. Many others like Runco, Digital Projection, and Sim2's HT5000 are a notch above the JVC, Sharp, and Marantz. Thus, The JVC-DLAHD1/RS1 will be hanging around at the top of the below-$20,000USD league.
