Currently, I'm one of the proud owner for Nissan Sentra N16 1.8 XG-L, year 2007. Been driving around for 3 years. Recently, warranty claim for

left knuckles and bearing of left front wheel. Mileage 90K km. Lucky for me still able to claim those item although servicing by Tan Chong SC until

only 50K km only.

GOOD JOB TAN CHONG MOTOR SERVICE CENTRE.

I have 2 workshops I go to, one in Setapak, one in Petaling Jaya...

Ain't the thermostat normally suppose to rise up to around 50%? blink.gif My car also stays at slightly below 50%, nothing wrong with it wut...
Not ALL TCEASs are reliable, better ask around and do research properly first...

Good Day,
I'm new here. I'm own a Nissan Sentra N16 1.8 XG-L, year 2007. Current car mileage 90K km ++.

Yeap, you're right. Not all TCEAS are reliable but you can complaint by using proper channel. They have a complain and customer feedback box near their payment counter for most TCEAS . Write whatever you're not satisfy.

Anyhow, i would like to say good job and well done TCEAS at Klang. They're really pro... handling my complaining regarding to failure of wheel bearing for the front left wheel. Firstly, they give me x1000 reasons why i can't claim due to my inconsistent servicing at the place. My record only shown i service till mileage 50K km only.

Well, that S.A ( service advisor ) really screw by me like hell. The car came with 100,000 km or 3 years with terms and conditions. Yes, they have the right to reject my claim for the part failure but that part is 100% none service item. My excuse is how are you goin to maintain something can't be service. Finally, they approved my claim after i been hard complaining. The worst is soon after claiming the wheel bearing only they realized , knuckles worn out due to bearing jammed. No choice but to replace the whole set brand new and GENUINE TOO.

I really thank you for their kind favour because those part are totally not cheap at all . The wheel bearing of course is cheap , less than Rm 100 but the knuckles cost more than Rm 1,000+++. Estimated from spare part shop already cost Rm 1200 ++ without installation.

Hereby, i really grateful for the professional service to customer and the main is customer oriented especially to noise making customer like me. They have an option by only replace the bearing only without notify me regarding the wheel knuckles too in order to save cost. Since my mileage is already 90 K ++ sooner or later only i will only realize will after the warranty period . GOOD JOB again.

Luckily for me otherwise , my wallet will suffer by a BIG hole in it.

I will quote my forum posts on n16.com.my regarding FC problem:
Second visit to TCAES PJ:
basically that's it. Can anyone enlighten on the possible causes of this long-standing FC problem?
*
Good Day,
Actually, this is very subjective questions. Of course, the car is not design with such abnormal FC. It really depends in some many factors such as :-

- Car load
- maintenance
- type of engine oil . Fully synthetic , semi or mineral create big different for FC
- tyres pressure and type of tyres
- spark plug . Iridium and normal plug
- fuel type
- sound system
- engine running temperature level
- engine part failure
- air filter
- auto/ manual oil maintenance
- car waxing and clean/ without
- modification on car aerodynamic
- etc.

All mention above will directly or indirectly causing high FC.

http://www.dailyfueleconomytip.com/creativ...ys-to-save-gas/

Currently, for my own Nissan Sentra N16, 1.8 XG-L my routine maintenance as following:-

Every time servicing AND maintenance

WEEKLY- Washing and waxing, visual inspection on car conditions , water reservoir, coolant, and battery water.
5K km - Check tyres pressure . Only requires 5k Km coz only 30 days +- only to reach that mileage and is BEEN filled with 100 % NITROGEN GAS
10K km - Fully synthetic oil Castro Edge 5W-40
10K km - oil filter
20K km - air filter, Genuine Tan Chong
20K km - auto oil, Genuine Nissan cost Rm 22 per litre
20K km - flushing and refil x1 litre TOYOTA LONG LIFE COOLANT
20K km - inspection by visual for DENSO IRIDIUM SPARK PLUG X 4PCS
60K km - replacing brake oil DOT 4 BOSCH X 1 LITRE + FLUSHING
60K km - flushing and replace power steering oil X 2 LITRES. Brand NASA

My current FC :-

Shell RON 95 - 11 km/ L - 13 km/L for 40 % city driving and highway.
BEST RECORD - 13.66 KM/L after FULL servicing + newly install IRIDIUM PLUG X4 PCS

NOTE : RESULT VARIED FROM TIME TO TIME. INCONSISTENT DUE TO DEPENDS ON DRIVING METHOD , ETC

PCD is term related to tyre / wheel.

there is 4 nut screw for tyre. PCD is mean by the distance between each screw of them. so 114 = 114mm while 100 = 100mm. 100mm is the distance between each opposite screw.

Good Day,
All sifu, i'm considering of swap a new engine for my N16 1.8 Xg-L, 2007. My ideal engine is SR20VE 20V Neo VVL but most of the half cut offered automatic transmission with TIPTRONIC 6 Speed. Most of it i believe is troublesome.

Perhaps, i should buy 2nd hand Sentra B14 to swap engine rather than use my new N16 for my new project. What was your opinion for engine swap? SR16VE Neo VVl?? etc??

Please advise all sifu. I'm thinking to create a high engine output but NO TURBO for daily drive and economical in terms of fc and maintenance.

Past few days ago while i was driving my Nissan Sentra N16 1.8 XG-L, i was bullied by a Perodua Kancil 850EX with a modified engine. While i was driving in Federal Highway from Klang heading to K.L that stupid fella following me by bumper to bumper at fast line. That time i was cruising 105 km/h so i slow down coz i hate being followed and keep forcing me to leave my line. I just slow down to 90 km/h by releasing the accelerator.

That stupid malay fella honk me and keep flashing high beam. Suddenly, he switch lane and try to overtook so i just slammed hard on the accelerator but his pick up faster than mine N16 QG18DE with 128hp. Later, he was zig zag i really losing up my tantrum so i chased him all the way down the highway and finally catch up with him and playing "chicken" with him. I turned my stering towards that kancil force him slam the divider. Than he try to switch lane again from fast lane to middle lane . I was exactly at the middle lane and while he's make a fast switching lane he scratched my car at the back bumper on right hand side. Then he speed up again towards the Rm 1.10 toll at Subang.

He just don't want to stop , well finally i should do what a citizen should do to uphold the laws and regulation. I reported his car to the Traffic Police Station at Shah Alam pending arrest warrant for him if he don't show up at the police station to receive his summon. Good Luck for him!

Although, my ORIGINAL car is not modified with any mod to add up the hp but Nissan N16 is design for comfort and durability. Although, i feel disgrace a bit coz i lost to a Kancil but overall i'm satisfied with my N16.

BEWARE ALL ROAD BULLY ON THE ROAD NOT ALL N16 IS EASY TO BE BULLY. WATCH OUT!

Goodyear Assurance is pretty good, but if you want another brand, then you can give Yokohama a try, their A.drive series are pretty quiet, I used to use the A.drive R1, quiet tyres but wet traction is not as good as I hoped it would be... But you can't expect much wet traction from these kind of "comfort" tyres...

I've changed to a new set of Yokohama S.drive tyres recently, the S.drive is an ultra high performance tyre, which fits my criteria very well...
*
Bro, have you tried Continental Comfort Contact-1 , so far i been using that tyres for 2 years liow. It really outperformed Michellin , Good Year, Bridgestone, etc. It works excellent during wet and dry grip. I been changing at more x20 such tyres liow coz both of my car is using same tyres. 195/ 60 R15. I used to drive at highway with high speed although rain with heavy downpour it still works perfectly. The best of it can withstand till 40K - 50 K km for tyres life before left with 10% tyres thread + always maintaining the car allignment + balancing. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

Anyway, my daily commuter is Proton Waja Campro 1.6E, year 2007. Current, milleage is 116,000 km +++. My Nissan Sentra N16 milleage is 97,000 km +++.

Added on December 19, 2009, 11:42 amBro and all sifus,
Previously, i thought i want to change N16 1.8 XG-L QG18De to SR20VE 20V NEO VVL. But i realized the engine is getting difficult to source and the worst nightmare is possible no spare part available in open market.

I think the best alternative now for 10 years down the road i will choose VQ20DE V6 2.0L. This engine is still under production and The VQ series engine was honored by Ward's 10 Best Engines list every year from the list's inception until 2008.

Frankly, i not really not looking for a short period thrill but in long run the maintenance and fuel consumption will be a big issue for me. I don't want regret or a burden to me. What do you think?

Next, i might buying a used Nissan Cefiro A33 2.0L V6 engine with VQ20DE and swap with my Nissan Sentra N16 1.8 XG-L and buying hlaf cut with VQ25DE for my used Nissan Cefiro A33 2.0L. Correct me if i'm wrong. Local regulation for JPJ is permitted to engine upgrade of 25% from original car.

What do you think ? Please advise!

mine just manage up to 140km/h n really hard to go on.
n the FC is like RM84 for 420kms.
when i use the od at 100km/h , the rpm raise to 5k rpm n i din't really feel the car is gaining speed.
my car is all ori, just a tyre setting of 195/55/R15 thaz all...
any one can help me on this.
modding the exhaust will giving me more torque n high speed?
please advise me TQ...
*
Bro,
Mine is N16 1.8 XG-L, year 2007 too. The top speed of the car is 180 km/h only before cut off by speed limiter. Assuming i'm our Engine capacity is same but your fuel consumption is much higher than mine. Mine is Rm 60 to 380 km/h mostly. I'm using RON 97 Shell. So far i read through lots of people comment N16 for 1.6 SG is higher than 1.8 XG-L but yours is too high.

Perhaps you should check the following item as i did :-

- Engine Oil , i'm current using Fully Synthetic Castrol 5W-40
- Tyre pressure to front 34psi and rear 32 psi
- Plug , mine is Iridium Plug Denso
- Auto Gear oil change interval every 20,000km Nissan D matic genuine
- Fuel , RON 97 is more suitable for Nissan N16 due to heavy chasis and smoother engine.

If all this you have done, i personaly advise you send Tan Chong SC for diagnose since your car should still under warranty. Any modification will void your warranty so for modding your exhaust perhaps best is after warranty coz not worth take it the chance to void the warranty thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif .

wut should i told them to check?
heard from other people said something bout the "air mass" cost bout RM400, change it will be better FC....(wut is this??)
*
Bro,
From my own experienced i encounter , Puchong TCSC most mechanic is Indian and their worksmanship is slow . I went there only once only during my first service only , then most of the time i went to Branch only who took Tan Chong's license for servicing only. Perhaps, you can give it a try if convenient to you since is free too if your car is still under warranty.

Lately, i would like to praised KLANG, TCSC for their excellent service for rectifying my N16 knuckle and bearing by replacing the whole part. I repair my own should cost more than RM 1,000 +++ . I had bearing jammed and resulted worn out knuckle too . My last serviced with them is till 50,000 km ++ only. That time my milleage is 93,000 km ++. They don't allow me to claim firstly but then after i start making noise for the worn out part is not serviceable part so they can't blaim me for not servicing with them.

Next, they promise to replace the bearing but during replacing they found out the knuckle is worn out too due to the bearing is jammed . Finally, both part is replace without any charging at all. Good Job again.

Fuel consumption high not necessary resulted by the malfunction AIR MASS. Better get the confirmation first coz sometimes clogged air filter might resulted the same too . Have a nice day!

QUOTE(Nitrous @ Dec 22 2009, 02:20 PM)
Bro, just to be clear, there is no speed limiter in our N16 locally assembled TC cars. I hit 185km/h on my 1.6 SG before, before i run out of road. And yes, you'll need a really long road and some downhill would help too.... Have seen a 1.8GXE hit 200km/h before, so I m not surprised that your car can do that as well.
Oh one more thing, while there isn't any speed limiter, there is a rev limiter which activates when you hit 6750 rpm, a safety feature to prevent over-revving of the engine. It safeguards the engine from being busted. However, as I have mentioned, the rev limiter does not limit your top speed, which you can still make it to above 180km/h.

Edit : Forgot to add, my 1.6 SG year 2005, 37+liters usually takes me up between 390-410km. This makes up to roughly 10km/L, not great of a mileage if compared to the latest generation engines. I travel highway almost 70% of the time, usually from Puchong to Cyberjaya.
Hope this helps...
*
Nope, i believe you're wrong but there is a posibility every batch is different. Whenever i'm cruising in high speed or to max once reaching 180km/h the car automatically losing power while the speed drop to 170 km/h and increase again to 180km/h . It continue happen wheneve i try to reach over 180km/h. Is totally not stop by the engine revving as you mentioned above as reaching the speed 180km/h my engine revving only at 4,800 -5,000 rpm ++ only.

Some of the reader here also claim their car can go up to only 190km/h too but really unfortunate mine only 180km/h . I consulted the mechanic and even engineer of Nissan from Tan Chong as they claimed my car had a speed limiter built in or unless i want by direct by past from the Engine's ECU for the speed limiter.

The only car i knew is without speed limiter is Proton Waja Campro 1.6E which currently i'm using for my daily commute. The engine top speed is 190km/h but if you date cruising down hill with top speed definetely can reach more than 200km/h. I tried it before.

anyone here have ever clean their throttle body. i'm thinking of doing that for my n16 (2006 btw) but i read all over the internet that you might upset the idling of your ride. the idling rpm went up higher. has that happen to anyone before?

it is said that you need to oiled the TB after cleaning it. some say to use household oil. is household oil the same as machine oil (the grease)?

btw, where to look for throttle body cleaner? tesco? giant? Brothers? accessory shop?
*
Bro,
Throttle body i cleaned once before during i tune up and diagnosed my car when its in 20,000km++ for high FC but frankly, no different. Throttle body require maintenance only when during idling the rpm drop drastically compare with before due to block by particle or etc. I had experience before with my last car Kelisa EZI automatic. I'm using K&N filter and i was over oil the filter and clogged the throttle resulted during idling the rpm drop drastically.

Avoid doin your own R&D at home for using household oil and machine oil to avoid frustration and headache. If cleaning throttle body is unavoidable better send to Tan Chong's dealer for servicing for peace of mind. thumbup.gif thumbup.gif thumbup.gif

N16 1.8A, has following gear ratio :
Final        1st        2nd        3rd 4th
4.342 2.861 1.562 1 0.698

If you are still having the stock 15x6.0JJ rim, shodded with 195/60/R15 donuts, be it whichever tyre brand or model you uses, on the 3rd gear, at 6500rpm (coincidentally, this is where the rev-limiter comes in place, which will cut off your fuel supply if you hit the red line), you should be hitting around 173.54 km/h. Put it this way, I have strong believe the said 1.8 XG-L, is using OD-off to attempt to achieve the said 180km/h top speed.

Basically, in theory, you should be able to hit 229.50 km/h on the 4th gear, IF, your 'mechanics' has sufficient setup and of course the road to hit that sort of outrageous speed on a stock N16. Personally, I have seen the 200km/h on my 6years old N16 1.8A, car is still rock stable, of course, my ain't exactly stock on donuts and suspension.

Put it quite simply, 180km/h on a N16 is not the end. You SHOULD, typically fetch a top 185km/h like Nitrous 1.6 or others 1.8A. IF not, something is wrong somewhere.

Lastly road rage/race is pretty hazardous. Just my 2cents.  wink.gif
*
Hi,
Thank you for your advise but currently i'm not looking forward to damage my new engine yet. shocking.gif . Yes, my car is stocked with original tyre 195/60 R15. Well, i don't think is advisable to switch off the OD while cruising near the maximum speed coz resulted the gearbox over revving and damaging the gearbox. Not worth it at all since i'm very comfortable with what i have.

I'm only looking for durability and good fuel consumption rather than taking sort of unneccesary headache. By the way, Proton Waja Campro 1.6E has the better power while cruising on highway compare with mine N16 1.8XG-L.

Bro,
Thank you for your reply to me. I read through that, by the way have try to Denso Iridium Plug for your car . Perhaps, better fuel consumption can achieve. At least, it really works on mine N16 1.8 XG-L. By the way if B14 modding to SR20DET is over spect and illegal since hardly to get approval from JPJ. Upgrade to from existing engine capacity to maximum allow is only 25% only. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Lately, seldom see ya around reporting to this forum, end year holiday liow ? Anyway, good to see you again.

Hi,
I read some column written by N16 owner who owned 1.6SG or SG-L claim they had a high fuel consumption but mine N16 1.8 XG-L reporting differently at least lower than them much more. My current fuel consumption best recorded in highway is 13.8km/l and city + highway is 11.5 km/l ++. If you're looking for used unit i recommend purchase the 1.8 CC rather than 1.6 CC because the pricing is not much different. All N16 1.8 cc offered in full spects in terms of gadget and safety. Anyway, N16 1.8 cc no more available offer for new unit since is already phase out this model. Only 1.6 cc available only now.

Another info to share is both N16 1.6cc and 1.8cc share the same chasis. Durable yet strong and heavy too. Frankly, for me the 1.8cc is barely sufficient only to move this heavy car.

Road tax of course is more expensive. For 1.8 cc is Rm270 ++ per year and 1.6 cc is Rm 90 ++ only. Frankly, u can't save up for road tax because you might pay heavier in Fuel Consumption for N16. My opinion is worth it at all coz per year i spent on fuel for my N16 estimated RM 7200 ++.

Boss, did it ever hit you that something is not right with yourself before you write the last sentence in capital letters???
1st - When people is faster than you on a fast lane you should give way! You don't slow down to slow down the car behind you neither do you jam your brakes!!!!!!
2nd - If you don't like being followed and be force out of your lane....GIVE WAY!!!!!!!
3rd - Isn't it natural that when you don't give way people overtake you?????? Why do you have to slam on the accelerator so that people can't overtake you!!!!!!
4th - You are provoking people by chasing people (just because a small little kancil is faster than you) and force people to divider.
5th- You provoke by chasing people first and now you are going to the police and said that this car scratch yours while switching lane.

WHAT IN THE WORLD MAKE YOU THINK THAT YOU ARE SO RIGHT!!!!
YOU LOSE YOUR TEMPER AND CHALLENGED PEOPLE BY BEING A ROAD BULLY FIRST!!
YOU FELT YOU LOSE YOUR FACE JUST BECAUSE A SMALL KANCIL WANT TO OVERTAKE YOU

YOU ARE A REAL LOSER!!!

Bro, don't mean to challenge you but if you speak to toehr driver with a wira standard 1.6....yes the tachometer reads 240, the car cannot go that high many years back in college years my group of frens, we all drove 1.6 wira none of us reach 200km/h on straights. we tried many times together while travelling outstsations together. Unless you are in a slip stream of the car infront then possible.
And @185kmh achieved before 4k rpm.....I've not seen it on any stock car 2.0cc and below. Anybody else has this experience before?

I'm not an expert but just want to know more.....

I am using Denso Iridium plugs on my SR16VE now...

Who said upgrading to SR20DET in a B14 is illegal? Upgrading from 1.6L engine to 2.0L engine is still permissible...
The VTC in the QG16DE does not have an aggressive high cam profile, so you won't feel any kind of "sudden power surge"...
Don't bother with Nissan's coolant, use Toyota's Long Life Coolant, I'm using it in my B14 and it's running very well... But please make sure you only use 50% of the bottle, do NOT pour the entire bottle into the cooling system... For older engines, use only about 30% to a maximum of 40%...

Previously, i read through an article from the web who the owner modified his car from the original N16 1.6 to SR20DET but during the application from JPJ is always rejected although he applied few times liow. Well, i have no idea.......

Hi... I'm a new nissan sentra owner...
Nice to meet you all;)
Juz bought a second hand sentra year 2001 XE.
It's a nice car...wink.gif
BTW, felt a bit underpower bout the pick up...
Got any others way to overcome this problem other than change the plug?

Besides that, what engine oil should i use ?
Because i go spare parts shop in klang they recommend me such stupid oil..
Bardahl, 15w-50... Is this engine oil ok?
Because i heard lots of ppl said that normally sentra use semi-synthetic oil...
Or shud i take and change a semi-synthetic oil from them?
Any brand to recommend? I ask them bout motul brand, thy dont hav...
Thy juz hav castrol, etc....

Please give some guides...thx;)

If you read through all the written articles previously, you can learn all the informations you looking for. Yes, i heard Bardahl engine oil which is recommended by Mazda's service dealer. No idea how the oil perform.

Yes, Nissan engine always recommended use higher vicosity oil to ensure the timing chain and engine parts long last. Semi synthetic is good for every 5,000km changing interval.

Once before i had a discussion with Tan Chong's mechanic pertaining to oil change for Semi Synthetic 15W-40 or 15W-50 for Nissan N16. They always recommended change at maximum by 5,000km due to Nissan engine using timing chain which it get the lubrication from engine oil as well so the end result the engine oil disintegrate faster.

If for normal timing belt which lubrication from engine oil not needed, It shouldn't create any problem and works perfectly till 7,000km or 8,000km but still depends on engine oil grade and brands. I tried once before using NASA ENGINE OIL Fully Synthetic 5W-40 it last till 15,000km without feeling any direct effect to engine output.

Frankly, the earlier you change the oil at 5,000km or 3 months , definitely your engine long last. Thats is RULES OF thumbup.gif

Happy 2010 to all Sentra/Sunny/Pulsar owners! smile.gif
I'm looking for that too... biggrin.gif
Oh ya ka... That's strange...
Hi, welcome to the club... smile.gif

Depends on your car's mileage, if it's below 80K, you can still use fully synthetic oil, but above 80K, use semi-synthetic or mineral (mineral oil must change every 5,000km)...

Motul is very good, the other brand that is very suitable for Nissan is Idemitsu...
Sounds like your gearbox needs an oil change...
8,800RPM... shocking.gif That's scary... Revs higher than the FD2 Civic Type R's 8,300RPM... sweat.gif
Yup, sounds like your throttle body's dirty or probably needs repair...

That's quite a misleading statement... Semi-synth oil do not need to be changed every 5,000km... It can go up to 8,000km and it will still be good...

Yeap, SORRY bro! My error. It should be lower vicosity the better it is. Following is the website for more information :-

Hi, I am a GXE driver.

currently, i am facing a problem with weird sound. "HONG HONG HONG" just noticeable in the car especially when driving fast / cornering, not sure from front / rear. could it be the bearing problem? how much and where can get change it somewhere around pj with reasonable price?

Also my front got sound like "klier klier klier", i guess is the absorber / the hard plastic on top of the absorber?? i am useing improve performance-comfort absorber here. (red color one)

also recently, i notice my FC is higher ... could be cause by the same problem?

Any expert can give some advice.??

Thanks.

You meant the absorber mounting which secure on top of the absorber once installed into your car? Frankly, i have no idea but mine also have the similar problem and sount when only fast cornering or passing road bump, i noticed my front absorber bush is worn out and cracked. I don't it bother for the moment coz not worth it replacing it coz the labour is more expensive than the bushing. Plan to replace only when the absorber worn out only.

Get the confirmation for failed part before purchasing any spare part to avoid spend the unnecessary money. If wheel bearing is only cost Rm 60++ for parts only.

For Nissan spare part, our brother, VANQUISH always recommend PH Auto at Seapark, P.Jaya. You can get the contact from previous pages. I personally plan to buy Petrol Filter on visit there later. Hopefully , the price really reasonable enough.

Good Luck! thumbup.gif

My best record for my Sentra N16 1.6SG MT, 36.2L of petrol can run 630km++ for fully highway drive with no faster than 110km/h. If mix with city drive, the FC drop to 480km++.
*
Bro,
Your FC is impresive. I don't think automatic transmisson can achieve such figure for 36.2L for 630km or 17.4km/l.
