Yes, it's a gruelling road trip and itinerary... I skipped Phuket, and spend an extra night in Chiangmai. The 3 days there was something like this:

Day 1 hired tuk-tuk (that 3 wheels 'taxi' or songthaew (meaning "2 benches", that are found behind those pick-ups/minibus) to go around town and 3 different cottage industries - umbrella, lacquerware and silverware. (Not sure these cottage industries still there or popular, as only done it during my very 1st time in Chiangmai which was many, many years ago.)

Day 2 take a day-tour package: elephant park, ride elephant along jungle trek, rafting on a bamboo raft, visit a hill tribe village, and visit a waterfall.

Day 3 go up Doi Suthep... bus back to BKK at night.
Hard to explain what is travelling to someone who do not like to travel... it is not really a vaction or holiday to splurge yourself - of course this would be nice if we can afford to, but anyone who truly likes to 'travel' will anyhow do so as long as it is within his/her budget.

Definitely I not just like, but love traveling. I always have solo one, even sometimes my close friends ask for joining, without doubt I'll reject their request. I must agree with u, travel is "not really a vaction or holiday to splurge yourself", but more, it's a lifelong memories, it's about the people u meet, the things u do, the taste u ates, the feeling u have, the thought sudden came to ur minds to redefine life, and of coz and more.

Wow great blog! Have u try philippines? It's a great place. I travelled for2 weeks Manila, elnido Palawan and Cebu during Christmas. Friendly Filipinos and great beaches really made my trip enjoyable there. Would like to go again especially elnido! Not too touristy yet. I spent rm1000 everything exclude air fare.

Well, not everyone like the same thing ...
Been going to BKK like since I was around 8 years old ... tried almost every method ~ BUT still prefer the Train method. Somehow the train ride there is diff from KTM ... I live in Kelantan, and to go BKK we go Sg Golok and pass through the conflict zone ... heck quite usual for most kelantanese which going BKK mean taking the flight from Narathiwat ~ which is the only 1 flight per day operating daily from that airport.

RM is soaring now ... you might not be able to go about with RM 500 on the same init ~ RM 100 could get about BAHT 800 currently.
