Anyone here have tried taking cab from Singapore to Larkin Bus Terminal in JB? How much will it cost roughly? Or any other suggestions?

That free ride is only applicable for grabhitch user right?
I've tried registering earlier but they were asking for credit card details which I'm not comfortable with revealing..
For the normal grab taxi the estimated rate was quoted at $20-30, if plus toll, etc how much would that add up finally? First time using grab to cross border, so kinda worry laugh.gif

I've been using credit cards. No issue so far. I work on their android app. I can say we don't save cc info. but given i'm their employee, up to you whether do you choose to trust me or not cool2.gif

for normal grab taxi, i don't think there'd be any driver who want to take cross border job, simply for the amount of work. plus i don't even know if the system allows it biggrin.gif but the reason why they ask for cc info (if i'm not mistaken) is that because hitch driver is not a commercial driver, so they want to at least prove they are not taking up more than 2 rides per day (i think that's the constraint by the law). they don't want people doing hitch as a commercial driver because the screening and registration process would be different, income tax is another issue unsure.gif

You don't get what I meant don't you?
Talking about salary...

biggrin.gif biggrin.gif Actually kinda lucky of me. Almost 2 years back landed my current and my first job in SG and my first job in life at quite an average or slightly below average salary in my field. Had 4 adjustments till date now taking about 40% higher pay compared to 2 years back.

But the work experience isn't entirely pleasing. Luckily the pay made up for some part of that biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Spending also went up exponentially doh.gif

Used to survive on 550 for rental, 450 for misc (food, transport, mobile, groceries, entertainment etc etc). Now is 650 for rental, another 650-800 for misc doh.gif Haven't account for my excluded expenses (those not day-to-day expenses like getting new shirts/gadgets/birthday presents etc etc)

Insaneeeeeeeeeee  innocent.gif

good to know that more fellow msians are doing great thumbup.gif just like msia, there are good companies and bad companies in sg. i also got adjustment recently, also my first job in sg, started last year december. went up about 20%. fingers crossed for bonus.

for those who feel like starting a career at sg, don't worry too much if your starting salary is below average. things only matter in the long run (experience in sg contribute to new job, PR application, etc). especially if you're young and adventurous, go for it, it'll be a good experience.

On the topic of spending money, is there any hidden gems to visit in Singapore? Or any nice place to eat? laugh.gif

tbh i don't think i explored singapore enough. the typical "when you visit a place for holiday, you do everything in one weekend. when you work at the place, you don't even bother exploring" laugh.gif

Anyone knows where is a good place in Chinatown/Tanjong Pajar to rent? Looking for a studio or 1 bedder, don't want to rent room from owner, r around SGD 2k.

I'm renting a room. But I've seen one or two posters around the hdb, 1.8k for 2+1 bedrooms. I think for your budget you can rent the whole unit of older hdb. My coworker stays at UE Square, not sure how much is he paying though.

Thanks for your rec kai. UE square is quite ex without sharing, around SG 2.8k. Haha your co-worker is fortunate.  Yeah I do miss my parents and renting a place of my own allows my parents to stay with me.

I will have a look at the HDBs around Chinatown, although some of them are really old and noisy on the main road.
*
It's noisy mostly during festive season. A lot, and i mean a looot, of lion dances. Noise from road, not so much for me, because hdb quite high from ground, cars can't really speed in sg, and honking is not that common. i think the price that i see is cheaper because no agent or because the old uncle/aunty doesn't know where to put up posting, so they paste posters around the block instead. Will let you know if i happen to see more posters biggrin.gif

I keep checking the PR application appointment website, and there is always no available slot. Is it always like this? when do they open the next available day for appointment?

when i interviewed, a few employers asked "why sg?"
i just said better life quality (lower living cost - ignore conversion & better purchasing power)
the job that i ended up at, my employer never asked me that, in fact he was selling sg to me biggrin.gif

Hey guys, I always have dream going to singapore and work. I don't mind to take 3x stress level as long as the currency is good to earn. Just to give a bit of my background, I am no fresh grad but having 2 years of working experience in financial sector, mainly in field of analyzing work. Just wonder, how hard it is to get a job in Singapore now? I don't mind to start small as auditor. Would it be hard to apply consider that I don't have a PR there?

Any agency you guys can recommend in getting a job there?
*
I think you should still go ahead and apply for whatever job that you're interested in at SG. Even 1-2 years of exp is still helpful if any company is looking for that sort of experience. But you do have to keep expectation low, with the job market being not so good. Plus don't just think short term, even if you get slightly lower pay than expectation, that experience might help you in your next job (at SG or MY).

Pay-wise, luck plays a big role. And also your ability to advertise yourself (confidence helps, don't think that you are that inferior to the locals).

All the best.
