well as long as you don't sell too much calls that can't be covered by your stocks, and you accept that there's a 5% chance your stocks will shoot up and you miss out, it's not unexpected

Just make sure you guys do the risk management part properly. |

QUOTE(TOS @ Apr 12 2022, 11:27 PM) Square. I set strike price at usd100 and it shot up to usd12x. But let's see in this high inflation. How high it will go up.Can't do anything as it was bad luck when market rebounded fiercely. But square was a stock I want to let go. Same with visa. I let go at 220 as it shot higher than 220. Now selling covered put on it at 215. Hopefully it expired in the money so I can buy back at 215. This post has been edited by Ramjade: Apr 12 2022, 11:40 PM TOS liked this post

QUOTE(Ramjade @ Apr 12 2022, 06:51 PM) Same here. Dividend after taxes is really not worth it, especially when you see the deduction.Since in the US there are many quality growth name, there is no lack of choices. All the big tech are pro growth and if not tech even berkshire which is consider a value stock, deploy all their earnings back for capital growth. So there is really not much incentives to hold dividends stock unless you really like a particular company like 3M, J&J. Toku liked this post

QUOTE(dwRK @ Apr 13 2022, 07:22 AM) By selling calls on stocks I own, I get to collect the dividends and the options premium. For me the dividend is basically negligible. But free money is money. QUOTE(ChAOoz @ Apr 13 2022, 08:01 AM) Same here. Dividend after taxes is really not worth it, especially when you see the deduction. Yup that's right. That's why dividend for me in US market is negligible and meaningless. So there is really not much incentives to hold dividends stock unless you really like a particular company like 3M, J&J. |

QUOTE(ChAOoz @ Apr 13 2022, 08:01 AM) Same here. Dividend after taxes is really not worth it, especially when you see the deduction. I feel the same too. With 30% WHT, holding a stock with high payout ratio in long term you will miss out a lot of return. Since in the US there are many quality growth name, there is no lack of choices. All the big tech are pro growth and if not tech even berkshire which is consider a value stock, deploy all their earnings back for capital growth. So there is really not much incentives to hold dividends stock unless you really like a particular company like 3M, J&J. Hence, I only focus on low payout/no dividend leader in US stock and dividend/defensive in other market. A diversified approach. |
