well as long as you don't sell too much calls that can't be covered by your stocks, and you accept that there's a 5% chance your stocks will shoot up and you miss out, it's not unexpected
QUOTE(TOS @ Apr 12 2022, 10:48 PM)
Told you many times it's "risk premium"
*
yup, options is actually like "insurance". hence, "premium"

Square. I set strike price at usd100 and it shot up to usd12x. But let's see in this high inflation. How high it will go up.

Can't do anything as it was bad luck when market rebounded fiercely. But square was a stock I want to let go.

Same with visa. I let go at 220 as it shot higher than 220. Now selling covered put on it at 215. Hopefully it expired in the money so I can buy back at 215.

Their dividend is peanut and combine ith with the tax, the peanut gets smaller. Not worth it for me.

That's why I don't focus on dividends for US companies. I use options as my dividends instead.

Same here. Dividend after taxes is really not worth it, especially when you see the deduction.

Since in the US there are many quality growth name, there is no lack of choices. All the big tech are pro growth and if not tech even berkshire which is consider a value stock, deploy all their earnings back for capital growth.

So there is really not much incentives to hold dividends stock unless you really like a particular company like 3M, J&J.

By selling calls on stocks I own, I get to collect the dividends and the options premium. For me the dividend is basically negligible. But free money is money.

Yup that's right. That's why dividend for me in US market is negligible and meaningless.

when market is bullish... growths n some speculatives

when market is bearish... dividends n defensives

you can still sell options and collect premiums...

I feel the same too. With 30% WHT, holding a stock with high payout ratio in long term you will miss out a lot of return.
Hence, I only focus on low payout/no dividend leader in US stock and dividend/defensive in other market. A diversified approach.
