According to statistics, about 2/3 of traders loss money and 1/3 profitable.
*
what is the time frame for this statistic?
when talking about long term, i mean above 25 years, a duration that went through a few financial crisis and bear markets.

Why they don't want continue to trade for short term winner? Enough to earn?

I realize that too long term will not earn much. But how long should I hold?
*
because they loss until vomit when looks at stock market. laugh.gif

your question about "how long to hold" portraits a totally wrong concept about value investing. Value investor monitor their holdings frequently. Whenever they found the investment no longer attractive, they should start selling. So, the period of holding depends on how the company and its stock price performs.

Reported in one of news services recently.

usually, what they put as long term is "only" 10 years period. But i'm talking about at least 25 years or above. Because, if one earns within 10 years, but loss big time in the 11th year, he is a loser. I can see most of my friends who loss big time during recent financial crisis (especially the 2008 one), never dare to play stock again. It has become their nightmare. laugh.gif

This bull is really unstoppable. Just a little correction, then follow by rebound. Hard to trade actually, for those (like myself) with a fragile heart. laugh.gif

Looking at areas on my watch list, it seems only left finance sector still cheap....shall i start buying?.....any advice? Guys? laugh.gif

Just hold and do nothing lol. Been doing that since March.

Play rebound for boeing and disney?
*
boeing, the traditional oil machine airline industry, i feel that's sunset industry. Yes, they won't disappear. But, for stocks trading, we are talking about the power of growth. From the awakening of electric cars, i can see the future in the air as well. 5 years ago, i was talking about the rise of electric car, and the fall of oil consumption worldwide and oil-vehicles of course. That time, only tiny little people agree with me, most people saying it's still too early to say that, they think the topic was overblown. laugh.gif

speaking of disney, i have been researching on the emerging of the China version of disney, bilibili. laugh.gif

His presentations are always logical and easy to follow

The best part is he is kind enough to even post his classes for free

I do disagree with his overvaluation call on Apple since it hasn't had a multiple greater than the market ever since GFC even though it deserved one and finally is fairly valued.
The question now is how much higher would the market participants be willing to value it considering it is approaching valuations that compete with some high growth companies that have a higher chance of growing their revenue more aggressively
I learnt to avoid companies that execute poorly and do not mind waiting till they figure it out even though I might miss the upside

Plus, I wouldn't be surprised if this start to trade poorly closer to the end of the year due to tax loss harvesting.
*
I agree with you on Apple being "just" fairly valued now. It was obviously (for me) undervalued in past 3 years when its services segment started to become fruitful. In future, if Tim Cook continue to lead Apple, I have strong feeling that Apple's businesses will only move towards a brighter future. There are so many categories that Apple has yet to fully explore and expand from its huge user based. However, I'm expecting a 15% (or more) pullback some time after stock split.

QUOTE(McFD2R @ Aug 26 2020, 02:34 PM)
I have held Apple shares since early 2010, and one thing I have learnt throughout their history is, NEVER reduce unless you need to money. With the 2014 7-1 split, and now 5-1 split, it goes without saying I'm super duper happy. I must say that back then I was gambling with most of the money I had in savings on Apple hype. But with the amount of growth they have been seeing, I am fortunate it is still paying off. I have never bought anymore since then.

Every year, I used to think that I should sell so that I can roll the money elsewhere to make even more. Then slapped myself to make sure I didn't and use other resources for other investments instead. So, throughout my 13 years of investing, I have made and lost money countless of times. Apple has been my longest holding shares and will NEVER sell till I absolutely need it or some apocalypse happens to Apple.
*
i am regret to play in and out on Apple throughout my 10 years investment on Apple. If i didn't do in and out thing to play smart ass game, i would have earned maybe 2x more profit on Apple within my 10 years holding. We always over estimated our market timing ability. biggrin.gif

Well, nothing is really forever.  AAPL now is the star but it can be batsh** if they stop innovating or
another company came up and can really compete with AAPL or the consumer totally given up on paying premium
for its products.

Also, not just consumer products anymore, AAPL now actually making a lot of money in the enterprises and govt too.
I know govts from diff countries making purchasing decisions on using their products (iPhone/iPads) now for mobile devices
for businesses use.

CEO is very important as he is the one who leads the company. Tim Cook is a much better politician than Jobs, that's one of the major reason he is able to increase Apple stock price 9 folds since he took over the role of CEO 9 years ago.

It ends the flat-dollar cost account still up 15% to year-to-date versus my fully managed account at 25%. But, that +10% difference takes quite a bit away of my time away.
*
That is because you are very knowledgeable and skillful trader. For many people, i am afraid their fully managed account might be at negative 25% while flat-dollar account at positive 15%. laugh.gif

Anything shock on the world will somehow change something. People create something and the old is absolute.

The pandemic won't be drag on but the virus will be there in among our human. It will be reduce just like a flu with vaccine available.

I don't know what is sector changing now. Till everything back to normal and see clearly. Work from home is definitely increase and will create some new sector in IT, etc…  See medical sector is booming with more people aware of cleanliness and health. ( I see something here)

I think oil&gas is downtrend. With 3 continent taikor like US, EU and China is changing the transport to EV. Create battery booming and minerals. Damn alot of new EV company is create is this short term.

Investing? Follow trend lor.

Agree.

What we are seeing is not "disconnect", it should be called "transformation". Our old economy is fading out, new economy is coming in. That's all it is, nothing special or unable to comprehend. People's mind just stuck with the good old days in the old economy. They can't escape from that familiar world, they can't accept they are entering a brand new world. Human beings are bullet proof, we always find a way to survive. Switch jobs, switch businesses, that's all to survive the transformation.

Keep in mind that Nasdaq is currently trading below the 50 day moving average for the first time since April. If we get a daily close below 10,925 on the Nasdaq futures, we could see a bigger drop ahead.

S&P500 is also trading very close to its 50 day MA at 3,340.
*
broke that line then! please! Another 15% drop on Nasdaq would be wonderful! drool.gif
