What stocks you buy in HK market?
Scientists Create Antibody That Defeats Coronavirus in Lab
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/202...nd=premium-asia

Antibody known as 47D11 prevented Covid-19 and SARS in study
Early findings made in the lab may not be confirmed in humans

Guess this may affect the stock market. Looks promising

HK listed China big banks have good dividend, valuation is also low since many people don't trust china accounting. I've been receiving good dividend for about 10 years, so i don't care if accounting fake or not, as long as dividend comes steady. thumbsup.gif

Interesting article, thanks for sharing.

Given that if you are able to get $0 commission accounts nowadays, is it worthwhile to sell shares before ex-div date and buy it back after?
This avoids the 30% withholding tax.

It is a bit on the micromanagement side, and if you have a ton of different shares, it may be too troublesome.

Focusing on high dividend yield shares, theoretically, is this possible?

No doubt, the risk is that share go up in between the the dates you sell and you buy.

i suggest don't consider this kind of "technique". It all depends on how the stock performs within that period of time, not necessarily affected by the dividend actually. Just keep it simple, sell if you feel it's high, and keep if you feel it's low or you are lazy to do anything. biggrin.gif

Actually I know a bunch of folks in my company that holds their company shares forever. The withholding tax alone could be few thousand a year, RM
Since they have all their eggs in 1 basket, might do them well to (micro)manage it 4 times a year.

EDIT: For those wondering, US folks don't do this since they are subject to Capital Gains if they sell. And they can get 0 tax on dividend if the stock is in their retirement account. And this is probably not suitable for when markets are volatile, but during normal times, stocks don't fluctuate that much.

i see. Then ya, it makes sense.

It seems the stock market is detached from the economy, no longer represent the economy even forward looking for 6 months.

Index is heavily weighted with high tech companies. If we look at other company's stocks, they actually drops quite significantly, probably an average range of 30%-50%. Now, if we look at 2021 economy condition, will most businesses drop more than 50%? I doubt so, actually, not to mention vaccine is highly likely to come to market in 2021. Today, Xiaomi reported that its physical Xiaomi stores (not online stores) sales during Labor Day holidays in China grew 13% yoy. Yes, even with the terrible Covid-19 disaster, sales actually increases compare to last year. We are talking about physical stores, not even online stores.

Agreed.. when everyone is waiting to “buy the dip”.. it’s hard to drop with everyone standing by $$. Unless of course we get a “shocking world changing” news.

Still standing by 40% of bullets, but using 10% to hop in and out some speculative counters. Other 50% will be long term hold. In a way, wouldn’t want to miss any future opportunities, but yet don’t wanna miss this bull run.

Citigroup has been a really good stock to trade. From 40s to 50, then back to low 40s lol. They fluctuate higher than JPM/BAC on a daily basis.

Good strategy. I'm in 25% cash, 75% stocks (never sell anything since the Covid19 outbreak, just used that cash to buy a bit in March and sold those back in April and cash went back to 25%).

The only reason why S&P is high is because it’s supported mostly by tech stocks. If you look at financial (including insurance) / energy / utilities sector it’s still badly hit and bearish.

As for consumer staples, they are faring quite well as the likes of Pepsi, coke, Walmart etc is doing fairly decent during as the global situation is not affecting them in a large adverse way.

So it looks like the money is right where it’s “supposed” to be in the market at the current condition.

I guess those who are waiting for the next dip are mainly waiting for the tech bubble to burst? Now, we have too look at how did big tech (MAGA/FAANG) perform and unsurprisingly, the global situation might turn out beneficial even for them, especially in the long run as people’s habits are changing and the “hooked” factor will slowly creep in.

This kinda make me fear that even if the tech bubble burst, it won’t be as bad. Just take for example, AAPL was at ~240 in March, and then spike up to ~310. If it ever burst and go back down to the range of 240-260, think many investors will start picking them back up. I can’t foresee them to go lower than that though or I might be wrong

I wonder if the tech bubble burst, how bad it will affect the financial/ energy sector though. Currently my only exposure to tech is via companies like BRK and CINF (both which are mainly operating insurance), and also some
China tech stocks.

The only big “tech” stock which I think will have the largest downside is Tesla, it really feels like the bitcoin euphoric trading days =\. Amazon might have a larger downside given its recent spike too. But I might be wrong. No one can really predict the market ;p

Yap, i agree with you that the market has not been totally out of their minds, just being a little too optimistic, but not crazy bullish for no reason.

Once again, i really wish bears could pull market down to revisit previous low region, at least for majority of stocks if exclude some "special ones" that obviously beneficiary from Covid19 (ie. Tencent).
