QUOTE(Davidtcf @ Apr 27 2022, 11:40 AM)
(The primary factors that influence an ETF's liquidity are the composition of the ETF and the trading volume of the individual securities that make up the ETF. )

QUOTE(dwRK @ Apr 27 2022, 11:47 AM)
nope... you think this through again...
*
the entity (trading company?) that setup the ETF create ETF shares for it to be traded in the exchange. market makers will use arbitrage to ensure that the ETF price will more or less be equal to the basket of shares. liquidity is based on how many buyers/sellers willing to trade the ETFs

see how much of my comments is accurate/wrong

any "free lunch" trades counts as arbitrage.

so etf arbitrage exists https://www.investopedia.com/articles/inves...trage-works.asp
QUOTE
It may also go into the market and buy the underlying shares that compose the ETF directly at lower prices, sell ETF shares on the open market at a higher price, and capture the spread.

in what sense? not enough market makers so prices diverge or?

i'm lucky to play an options market that was illiquid (but the underlying futures is ok enough), manage to earn some dinner doing arbitrage spread between futures and options
(probably off topic as it's not a US instrument. expiry also is european style)

i see... the liquidity i was concerned about is secondary market liquidity. then yeah, your post is correct if referring to primary market liquidity

you can tryout this game to see how good a market timer you are https://engaging-data.com/market-timing-game/

the site a bit broken presently, so have to try an older cached version http://web.archive.org/web/20200322100503/...et-timing-game/. not perfectly saved but still playable. the line that's suppose to represent your performance is missing, but at least can see current figure vs market figure

rule no. 1, never lose money. so how do i do it? I buy options instead of futures. that way i don't have to worry about being whipsawed out of a position. sacrificing some of the profits as time value so that I can cap my max loss per trade.

if you profit 100% and then lose 51%, it's better to just put it under your pillow

to me, netflix has the same aura when Astro Malaysia relisted in Bursa at IPO price of RM3.00
