More likely your computer/laptop wireless card is old g standard or something. No point get the best router if your wireless chip in your laptop is 4 years old.

Try using your smartphone to speed test (assuming you have something within last 2 years).

You probably need another router as AP to be placed near to your room. Anyway, will wait for other experts to advise you.

That model is only single band..should have no problem..
This kind of issue, really need to try and error yourself..
When i first got my 850L from TM, it was sucks..then I fine tune myself..now its excellent..

Not sure when but few weeks back did a test and it was still around 30-31mbps. If this is happening to more users then I believe TM may be capping it slightly lower than 30mbps.

We can only complain if the speed is below 80% a.k.a. below 24Mbps... So, gotta live with the 28Mbps. No issue with my router or anything... They already capped the speed for us, unfortunately.

If you don't want to differentiate it, you can edit the SSID name to both having the same SSID.

During installation, I asked the technician whether they have C5.
He say they only left DIR-850L model. It was batch by batch.
It depends on what router TM gave them during that batch.
Hopefully the technician sent over do have stock for Archer C5
