For those with free 1 yr HypTV after getting your Unifi package, have a look at the free ASTRO Supersports channels. Impressive with the HD picture quality! I will be using that for the coming Olympics coverage.

I'm currently using RG4332 which had slow transfer rate (8~9 MB/s) between NAS and PC.

can I request them to change to RGX4400 ?

Cyclone, after you upgraded to gigabit router, update your firmware then perform a reset default and setup your nas again.
I got around 40-50 MB/s using the latest firmware. I'm impressed! brows.gif

If I got it right, the free package is the basic package.

ASTRO Super Sports is part of the Jumbo package. I can view this now. Maybe this Jumbo package is only free for 1 month. Hopefully for 1 year.

If Super Sports is free in HypTV, then I think this is a bad strategy on ASTRO's part as sports is their main revenue crowd puller. So why dilute their revenue by allowing HypTV taking some of the cake? Ha.

My 2 cents here on speed change.

Don't expect a huge improvement in your interneting.

Say you change from 8 Mbps to 30 Mbps, about 4 times increase in speed. So instead of 3-4 seconds in refreshing a page while reading The Star, don't expect an instant page refresh (less than a second) when on 30 Mbps. From my experience, the page refresh now is 1-2 seconds.

Downloading is faster now but not 4 times faster than before, eg. torrent etc. Depends on the traffic load at the other end.

On Kodi, slightly better than before in speed, still see some waiting for it to response to my selection (changing the menu etc). Seeing less of the bufferings when watching HD movies. Good.

I am getting 30-33 Mbps on speed test. Then why still seeing the above slowness at that speed? Bottleneck can be at any point between one end of the line to the other end.

Do see a much faster uploading now, old 0.5 Mbps vs 10 Mbps now.

Seeing less and less in speed improvement with higher Mbps for me. Guess I will only change to a higher speed if I have more users at my end. Otherwise, 30 Mbps is sufficient for me.

Power internet users will say even 100 Mbps is not enough for them, aiming for 1 Gbps!

Guys I need suggestion. Currently i am using Asus RT-N14UHP located at ground floor living hall, but when i am in my room using PC connect to WiFi, the WiFi signal is very poor, manage to get 1/2 bar only and do a speed test only get <10mbps out of 30mbps.
So my question is, could it be my WiFi adapter is weak or the router has poor wall penetration? I am using prolink WiFi adapter (PAN2001) though. Any solution to improve my speed on my PC?

RT-N14UHP antenna gain (9 dBi) is too high. So all the power is concentrated on a horizontal plane which is your ground floor. You get good reception downstairs? Even outside the house?

Anyway to cover both floors well, you should be looking at a wifi router which has lower gain antenna. Max 3-4 dBi if your ceiling is not too high. Do you still have your old TM router? What model is it?

I don't think Asus publishes their wifi radiation patterns so have to buy, try and see.

Or if you add one more wired RT-N14UHP for 1st floor, it'll be perfect.

Of course, could be other factors also like your Prolink, the Asus' antenna receive sensitivity, interference from neighbour's wifi, thick walls, aquariums, etc... As for wall penetration, 2.4GHz radio waves are the same regardless of where they come from. I don't know the transmit power of the Asus but most routers nowadays are transmitting at the MCMC allowed max EIRP of 27 dBm (500mW).

You are right....bandwidth and speed are 2 diff thing. Bandwidth is size and speed is latency...although both had its dependency...hence increasing just bandwidth might not translate to faster speed as a multiplier

The reason i bought this model because of the antenna thought can cover all area of my house but i was wrong...so 'long antenna' does not mean strong coverage? Yes, the wifi is strong even outside the gate of my house..

Does that mean those normal router antenna is good enough for house with average ceiling height? Yes, it is still working, RG4332.

Other than adding one more similar router, is there any other method? Powerline? Wifi extender?

Larger antenna gain means better signal coverage horizontally with compromize on vertical coverage.

If single storey house or condo then it's perfect.

The RG4332 theoretically should be OK but practically it sucks. Maybe its transmit power not high enough. I dunno. How was it before you bought the Asus?

Is the RG4332 still under warranty? Maybe try to get it replaced with a RGX4400 or 850L. The RGX4400 is quite good. 3dBi antenna transmitting at max allowed power for Malaysia. It covers my uncle's 3-storey house quite well. Some details here: https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=80665881

Also depends on the house size, if too big then one just won't be enough.

In order of preference:
1. Wired Access Point (can be your old router)
2. Powerline AP (house 3 phase or single phase TNB?)
.
.
.
128. Wifi extender/repeater

Really avoid wifi repeaters if you can. Due to external factors, hard to get them to work consistently.

Edit: How about angling your Asus antennas? Think of the wifi like a flying saucer perpendicular to the antennas and aim for your room. Worth a try.

Sometimes the problem is that your area has too many wifi and all crowding the same channels. Download a wifi analyzer and have a look. If there's too many access points, try looking at 5ghz.
