er....just to say one point here. For all those who going to or undertaking their internships, plz plz dun demand for allowances. If the company pays u, is ur luck. If they dont, they did nothing wrong, since they provide real industries training for u, which u cant find or learn in Uni or colleges.
Look for a company that provides u good hands-on task which can really benefit u during ur actual interview for your career in future.

I cant blame u since that's the initial thought for most of the under grads (including myself last time). But when u work in the future, u'll realize wat is rite......

I totally agree with joanalooidog, the experience that you get out of the whole internship period is much more valuable than any peanuts they pay you.

Besides that there are the ones actually on the losing side of the deal, they bring you in and offer you a chance to work with their culture ans invaluable experiences. After that you have an entry in your resume which money can't buy, and not to mention the extensive industry contacts which you acquire on the job.

vvv, there are some things money can't buy and besides that your intern won't last like a year or so okay? At most it will be 3 months. If you weigh all the benefits that you get, I would rather pay for lunch and transport from my own savings to reap the benefits which may provide with more returns than I have invested.

I think there's a clause in the employment act that requires all companies in malaysia to renumerate its employees at least at minimim wage level.

Getting peanuts better than nothing at all? Hmmm... I think if all of act accordingly, think as one union, we should stand a chance to get fair treatment from employers. I don't think it right for us to bow our head low, silence ourselves knowingly that we are compensated unfairly.

Regardless of what 'experience' or 'knowledge' we can reap from any internship, the contribution from the intern makes up a small margin in their profit. And on top of that, to add salt to injury, these companies than will claim to the general public that they have provided their fair share of social obligations via their internship programs.

Let's be real. Let's be fair.

Think about this. Via a lowly paid internship programme whereby the firm keep you in that programme for a year. Giving you the confirmation and promote your status to permanent staff a year later.

But if you started off as a permanent staff, don't you think there'll be big difference a year later? In terms of pay. In terms of focus. In terms of experience and skills.

I think the mentality of internship should be revise and getting a meagre pay does not compensate for the 'experience' and 'knowlegde'.

Look at it this way, on one hand, the firm volunteered to 'teach', on the other hand the firm does not recognise your contribution.

Don't you think that there's always this period of time that everyone need, to allow oneself to be familiar with the organisation?

In a way, these firms that provide internship is similar to providing themselves an escape clause to filter the quality of new recruits. Like testing water.

This is not right.

This is outright manipulating the good name of a firm, that the management know very well that many people will vie for the same position.

What do you do if you know that you are in demand? Do like anyone would do, be selective la!

All said and done, I think we should know how much we can give in to big organisation. If there is no takers for their internship position, do you think they would not increase the compensation to a much fairer level?

Its core business is foodstuff, and it's an MNC, what's so bad? I mean, everybody needs to eat, no? smile.gif

My dad worked in the Nestle PJ plant all his working life (retired last year, currently on contract extension).. so he did tell me a lot of stuff (note: I do not work in the manufacturing industry).

Benefits are good, pay is competitive, workload is heavy, politics is ugly (from what I've heard, can't quote on that).

Irenelim,
What my father told me is: Nestle is currently hiring Front/First Line Managers, basically fresh engineering grads (preferably Mecha/Chem), so you might want to try your luck if you are one. wink.gif

I heard they are restructuring and now looking for people. Good luck.

RM3k for fresh grad is good already. I'd take it. And please lah 13 years old dude, please stay out of this kind of discussion if you know nothing about intern/working environment. Go study your PMR first. Haiz.. Talk cock only. And working hour is 8-5, that's normal lah. Even my intern with PETRONAS at KLCC is from 8 to 5. But travel from home to office like... Took bus E1 at 6.15 in the morning, and arrive home in the evening at 9. Super.

Since I work in F&B industry, I might just provide you guys some info......If compare apple to apple, benefit for Nestle is actually good, for fresh graduates try to go for their management trainee programme (can check the details from job street). The pay is actually quite good, around 2.6K~2.8K or maybe more...... Anyhow in order to get the position as management trainee you gonna go through alot of interview. I have 2 friends joined Nestle as management trainee about 3 years ago, and I can tell you being a management trainee is much better in terms of carrier prospect smile.gif So If you want to work in FMCG company or F&B industry go for Nestle! Er...btw you guys can try applying Unilever or F&N.

Mgt Trainee is standard RM2.7k, with increment after one year probation.

But if you join Mgt Trainee under sales, your take home pay can range from RM4-5k depending on hitting your target and your claims.

Benefits? For sales you get vehicle subisidy, house rental subsidy (for outstation posting) and several other health and wellness benefits (and all the free Nescafe for those tough mornings!).

But of course in sales, be prepared to move around.

Its got its up and downs, but if you work hard, its bloody worth it. If the veterans can stay for 20-30 years, something must be right....

i have my internship in PJ nestle last year..i worked at the quality assurance dept.i really think nestle is really is a good company in term of paid and benefits. Besides, my ex-colleague there said once u work in nestle, then u wont worry cant find other job or some company will give u much better offer to attract u over to they compay. But working there, really very boring cos it is a factory mean that if u work there then u will need to adopt the 'factory life' which mean the working hours is so long and everyday u need to work OT( but OT paid is high). So, it is depend on individual preferences.
If u really interested to apply job in Nestle then u will go through 4 stages of interviews..and the most important is ur softskill must be good coz many of my ex-colleague din hav a very good cgpa but they soft skill is good...

guys i need some views here..

i will graduate soon in end of august this year with M.Sc in Logistics Management, i was thinking of joining the FMCG company like Nestle, however i can consider myself as a fresh graduate because i only have 3 months of working experience in one of the automotive company in malaysia. and in my situation, what can i expect from company like nestle? e.g salary wise, position, etc

i was being told that i should join the management trainee program first and slowly pick up from there... however i didnt get any further explanation why should i join this management trainee program.

i really wish that someone in this thread could provide me some sort of pathway for me.. at least i know what to expect.

Super.
*
Yah man, 13year-olds know nuts abt working world. And he shouldn't have spoken so bluntly, everyone here should be elder than him ...this is not a teenager section shakehead.gif

QUOTE(Keith Lian @ May 28 2008, 08:03 PM)
*
Sales... a colleague's mother is working as Sales Exec in Nestle. Colleague said their time is very tight. For example, she leave office at 6pm, ngam ngam reach home at 645pm, one call from boss on meeting - have to go back to office... and back several hours later. A lot of adhoc calls and high pressure.

Pay wise, please don't ask. I have no idea.

wow, still got lots of ppl asking about working experience in nestle! i hv been with nestle for the past 4 yrs and i can tell u one thing that u guys most concerned about: they pay u as what u deserved. one thing for sure, it really differs working in different depts. u can not compare one guys working env at hq with another who works in the factory. no similarity at all.

hey,

want to ask about the QA or Process Line job in nestle for food sc grad students. Is the interview/application process the same as marketing? From what i read here, most of u are talking abt marketing only.

Any people here working for QA or production line in nestle? Need some advice...smile.gif

Thanks..

my dad worked at nestle his entire working life..
started in '75 i think.. retired like after 32 years of service (and carried on a year plus more as contractor n consultant).. one of the longest in service.. started at lab assistant.. finished at production manager.. my father wanted me to follow his footsteps but in the end he let me chose without any pressure and i chose IT line.. he didnt pushed me to go into food tech at all cos he knows working with nestle will really push u to the max.. alot of late nights and weekend also have to work.. luckily they reward you well too.. big bonuses, medical expenses covered, shares when they went public listed, pension, overseas training, etc.. rclxms.gif

nestle is not a stepping stone company to get to better jobs.. its actually quite the end destination esp. for makan gaji folks.. and when u've learned enough, you'll be able to start your own small food manufacturing company.. my dad knows all the recipes for milo, nescafe, nestum, maggi and sauces but he never sell or try to replicate it.. its nestle's business secret and he fully respect it.. thumbup.gif

having been around my father all this while when he was working for nestle.. there are only 2 complaints that i keep hearing again and again.. number 1 is the big workload which really isnt a big deal if not because of no.2-> some people just have the mentality of a going thru the motion and not put in the extra effort.. nestle wants its workers to perform at atleast 90%.. if some ppl doesnt perform, others will have to pick it up.. never have i heard him complaint about office politics.. thumbup.gif

having said all that, IMHO, i would say nestle for food manufacturing would be like microsoft for the IT industry.. i wouldn't think twice about joining them.. nod.gif

ps - sorry i cant give a detailed feedback on the current working environment, just sharing my general views of my dad's career with nestle.. notworthy.gif

Speaking about Food industry , there are actually a whole lots of others which u may consider, perhaps those who have public listed.

There are many which have been public listed right?

Added on June 14, 2011, 9:24 amList of Public Listed Company in Malaysia:
http://www.bursamalaysia.com/website/bm/li...t_of_companies/

Anyone mind to classify the listed company as food Manufacturing company? And perhaps would clarify the benefits of being public listed besides security and reputation? would it be more salaryand bonus and allowances given for those food company being public listed?
I don't think there are lots of them, only a few i saw, and Nestle is one of them.

I called Nestle 2 days ago asking for vacancies there and management trainee program. For vacancy, just go to jobstreet. For management trainee program, as this year's batch already closed, need to wait for next year lah. Will be open on 2nd or 12th April 2012 I don't really remember

QUOTE(reef_d @ Jun 14 2011, 02:10 AM)
my dad worked at nestle his entire working life..
started in '75 i think.. retired like after 32 years of service (and carried on a year plus more as contractor n consultant).. one of the longest in service.. started at lab assistant.. finished at production manager.. my father wanted me to follow his footsteps but in the end he let me chose without any pressure and i chose IT line.. he didnt pushed me to go into food tech at all cos he knows working with nestle will really push u to the max.. alot of late nights and weekend also have to work.. luckily they reward you well too.. big bonuses, medical expenses covered, shares when they went public listed, pension, overseas training, etc..  rclxms.gif

nestle is not a stepping stone company to get to better jobs.. its actually quite the end destination esp. for makan gaji folks.. and when u've learned enough, you'll be able to start your own small food manufacturing company.. my dad knows all the recipes for milo, nescafe, nestum, maggi and sauces but he never sell or try to replicate it.. its nestle's business secret and he fully respect it..  thumbup.gif

having been around my father all this while when he was working for nestle.. there are only 2 complaints that i keep hearing again and again.. number 1 is the big workload which really isnt a big deal if not because of no.2-> some people just have the mentality of a going thru the motion and not put in the extra effort.. nestle wants its workers to perform at atleast 90%.. if some ppl doesnt perform, others will have to pick it up..  never have i heard him complaint about office politics..  thumbup.gif

having said all that, IMHO, i would say nestle for food manufacturing would be like microsoft for the IT industry.. i wouldn't think twice about joining them..  nod.gif

ps - sorry i cant give a detailed feedback on the current working environment, just sharing my general views of my dad's career with nestle..  notworthy.gif

tq for sharing

reading all the comment, i can sense the work load is huge there

Many vacancies right now but mostly need experience...of course there'll be interview not only nestle but for any company u apply for job. internship dunno...call them and ask la...or just submit your resume..when they call you for interview then you ask la about the salary

Working at nestle be prepared to endure huge amount stress and workload.
That is reason they have so many turn over in head counts.
Please think twice before joining nestle.

Hi All... rclxms.gif

my brother & sis in law has been workin wif nestle 4 da past 20yrs..i also did my indstrial trainin wif nestle & after 6yrs workin in automotve line (which is da envi r mre intense), i hve decided 2 apply 4 nestle recently & thank God i've been offered 2 join them whre they willin 2 pay me mre than wat i've demanded! cool2.gif

as 4 da intrvw, i am not sure bout da 4 stages of intrvw session, thre r only 2 intrvw session, 1st tru da phone & 2nd face 2 face lah kan..number they r using depends lah they call u frm which location, if HR shah alam tis no.=03-5522 5600, HR HQ=03-79656607..as of now, 1st they will check&process ur application & sum1 frm HR will conduct phone intrvw & arrange intrvw session with related superior if u passed..i think tis arrngement only for exprnce exec/eng level & above & pls2 be ready 4 da intrvw session as they will ask u a lot of ques since we r expeprnce kan (in my case, my current working field is completely diffrnt frm nestle & still they want me coz 4 nestle, wats important is ur knowledge in manufacturing system requirements - da ISO etc)..

tis is just a standard ques for freshie -->why you want to join the company, career objective, your motivation of career, strength and weakness.
as for me, i din prepared oso, it just dat u must ans it with confident no matter wat ur ans is...

fresh graduates??join nestle as they offered salary is quite high compare 2 others.. nod.gif

benefits???tis is wat ive been told - housing subsidies, car loan, discount on nestle products, (free nes & milo only available in PJ plant only duh), medical (cover fam too), 1 month contractual bonus & they wil pay mre based on performnce & sales, easy loan wif most banker, annual increment & bla..bla..bla..

hurmm... i can say if u ol 1 2 get a gud earnin then join Nestle..Its worth it, as 4 da workload/pressure, it is depends on which nestle's location, dept u join in & to who u'll b report to..but be inform dat, if u want an easy job, open ur on factory lorh...as far as i noe, ive been informed by my bro & former superior in nestle, da high turn over r comin from new members in eng&project dept in which they hv been gve a lot of task & they cannot complete it..

hope all of tis information will help!! rclxms.gif

one thing about fmcg companies is tat they hav high turnover rates...most of the either moved on or promoted...coz the cycle goes around... smile.gif

n fmcg industries....experience n portfolios is way much more important...pay is according to the market n not underpaid...work load of course le mostly high...coz its FAST MOVING rite??but eventually u guys in the industries has the better chance of moving up nod.gif
