Hi LYN sifus, having a dilemma here so need some advice:
- 14" or smaller FHD (prefer 13")
- 4gb ram or more
- NO optical drive (nid to cut down weight)
- Budget around RM 3000

So far, have these choices:
- asus zenbook ux305 CA
- asus k401ub
- lenovo ideapad 710s
- acer aspire s13
- lenovo ideapad 500s

Personally, it's for college in business course stuff, but I will use it for entertainment and light gaming ( civilisation v or Insurgency, so requirements not really that high? Btw, insurgency fans come add me please, my steam name same as this LYN acc name)

Also, just curious, but is there any noticeable pros and cons between different brands? Was under the impression like asus has good build quality but poor service, acer laptops feel a bit wonky/not durable, lenovo laptops bluescreen a lot etc etc

Re posted? Add oso inspiron 7359 i5 variant.

Yeah, just wanted to get more opinions from more people. Btw, thanks for your suggestion again!

I've check the Inspiron 7349 you recommended, seems like a good choice as well. But are convertibles like this durable or practical? Never really used one so no idea 😅

Hi sifus, just want to ask whether anyone has experience buying a Dell refurbished laptop? I saw a great deal but condition is cannot buy extended warranty so only Dell on-site warranty for one year....
It'll be a big purchase for me so would like to know if it's worth it or high risk? Thank you.

I like the way u put the budget.. wif current shitty RM value... Really can't get superb spec below 4k

Msi gl62 gtx 960m now promo.. rm3850.. but quality not top range la...

Dell inspiron 7559 if u ok wif dfo u can get uhd around 4k..

Latitude 7470 dfo i7 around 4k plus..

Asus k501 i7 lightest among all but bad side is shitty aftersales..

Xps 13 dfo fhd around 4k oso

PS : dfo means Dell factory outlet.. those online cancellation order, demo unit from launching, leasing contract finish units.. all wif Dell warranty and on-site service.. not like some freak who categories it as full refurbished...

Tat guy dun even understand the term full refurbished means.. do u consider urself buying refurbished stuff when u go brands outlet or f.o.s?

Isn't DFO unit hard to find on authorised reseller? I only find them in other dealer stores, mostly online....

3. 14in screen or smaller, lightweight portable
4. Usage: surfing Web, word editing, YouTube video/movie watching
5. No nid graphics
6. No nid odd
7. Preferably i3 instead of celeron/pentium, a bit future proof
8. If ssd better, but not necessary

Wao.. i didn't know the model until u comment here, Dell Inspiron 13 5000 2in1 series is exactly what I wan my requirement.
Supposed i was interested in HP Envy but sadly its ram is not upgradeable. Surpringly, this model very similar, come with SSD specs, and ram is upgradeable.

Now I have only 2 more concerns below:
(company requirement)

1) Is this model come with genuine Antivirus 15 months subscription? I meant not the free version but the paid version.

2) For Ms Office Home and Student, whats the best price PWP?

Thanks.

Using Windows 10 stock MS Defender decent enough, if stronger one just go for freeware like avast or avira. Unless you're browsing or downloading from very seedy sites, you're not gonna need paid antivirus apps. Used avast for 3 years, plug in a lot of different pendrives (scanned them every time), never once got my pc infected.

If you're college/uni student, you can ask whether your school has made a deal with Microsoft for free student version of Microsoft 365. If got like INTI college, can go register your school email account at Microsoft education programme website then download the program. Free to use until you graduate, to up to about 5 devices. You paid for the resource fees, why not take advantage of it all.

Even without Microsoft office, using offline Google Docs app or freeware like Open Office also enough for normal use unless you planning to do a lot of presentation or very complicated Excel files.
