does he play heavy games? or hardcore games? if he do, do not expect much for that budget....
Lenovo YOGA 500-14ISK 80R500JBMJ 14" i3-6100U, 4GB, 500GB, Integrated, W10H
HP 14-af106AX 14" A6-6310, 6GB, 500GB, AMD R5 M330, W10H
Asus X540L-JXX640T X-Series 15.6" i3-5005U, 4GB, 500GB, NV GT920M, W10H

dont forget, 4gb ram is not enuf for win10... its better to have 8gb ram at least.... but its kinda tight budget, so probably can upgrade next time. and please bring him visit computer shop and check these unit.... nothing much u can help, me myself prefer desktop actually... as laptop once buy, unable to upgrade unless 7k and above with mxm card.... so... mxm card is another story... laugh.gif

Upgrading it to 8gb ram should be no biggy if the shop people r willing to do though. Ok i will bring him and try these 3 laptops. Not much of a hardcore gamer in laptop. He will only play for past time when not in house. Thank you for the information smile.gif

Old HP Envy laptop's hard drive just decided to die last week.

Surviving on company's Thinkpad but need one for personal use. Anyone can recommend me the best bang for buck laptop under 3K?

I would use for gaming la but won't be expecting much cause of the budget. Full HD and SSD if possible.

Thanks guys.

asus = gamers choice? laugh.gif
sorry man... erm, its not like they choose asus because of gaming. but asus specs offer much better within their range budget. see the market, for example, dell or hp or any other brand offer i5+ intel hd at rm2500, another specs i5+gt740m at rm2799, and asus offer i5+gt740m at 2500... which 1 is you will use for gaming?, for sure you will buy asus.  even acer have same price and specs same as asus, but due to its history, people avoid acer, but lately, acer bouncing back to competitive, they even have gaming line up, predator which way much expensive than asus ROG. im asus rog ex user, i use 2 model ROG. i do use hp, acer and now dell...  and my acer still kicking longer than my hp even i have my hp earlier than my acer, for me, acer still have its quality.

its not that intel hd graphic is unable to do games, but, its better have graphic card for proper graphic generate for games resolution.. try gaming using intel hd at medium setting vs having graphic card amd/nvdia at medium setting, there is some differences between them. well, those are totally what i figure out after i do some test and compare, but of course, its only for me which is suit on my needs, cant compare other people findings than my findings, probably not the same as i only use 4-5 different notebook with different specs. so there is still limitation.

look at their pascal laptop... more expensive than alienware n msi from spec wise.. performance wise they no chance to compete... hopefully they come out replacement model..

Anyone has experience using inspiron 5378? can you tell how it does as in daily usage?

Does this laptop has m.2 slot for ssd?
Does opening the back cover of the laptop to change the hdd to ssd or increase ram, will void the warranty?

I also have been eyeing on asus zenbook flip ux360ua. Between this two, which one that all of you will recommend?

Change to 2.5inch ssd enuf de.. for the 5378

Asus lighter but more expensive compare to 5378.. zenbook ux360 build to rival xps n spectre.. yoga n envy can't get close zenbook.

5378 was built to compete in the entry ultrabook level... Yoga, envy those..

PS : 360ua hv terrible margin.. if u wan to get pls be kind to the seller.. damn kesian profit for a 4499 ultrabook

its offer 1Tb hd with 5400rpm. If you dont want use normal hdd, you need change it to ssd.

i think it does have slot for ssd. so you able to use it as cache for speed. *need confirm for available slot again.

opening back cover depends where the sticker located, if there is sticker block it, then, it will be hard. but normally, no, will not void warranty.. but for this 13" its kinda hard to open back cover.

between zenbook and dell.. i'll recommend dell. this zenbook flip is nice, just having bloatware, if you dont mind, i think zenbook is good too. longest battery life than this dell. for the bloatware, can uninstall 1 by 1.. laugh.gif

1. Preferred Brand - Any
2. Budget - below RM3500
3. Usage - Browsing, MS Office/Work, Travel
4. Preferred
- Ultrabook
- No core M
- SSD + HDD (if possible. if no, SSD)
- Expandable RAM
- 13-14 inches
- Lightweight (~1.3kg or so)
- Type C charge = bonus
- Good battery life

Browsing through, saw Mi Notebook Air 13" would be perfect. But seems it doesn't come in Malaysia, or would be too pricey(over 3.5k).

I amended the requirement. Any recommendations?

i have terrible experiences with my hdd for my old laptop, 100 disk usage all the time, many bad sectors. thats why want to change to ssd. for the m.2 slot, i once ask a dealer if there any extra slot, he said no. Then i go ask another seller, he said yes. thats why i ask about the m.2 slot. if it is available then thats a bonus for me thumbup.gif

thanks for your recommendation biggrin.gif
