Hi guys,

I used to love C & C for many years. wub.gif

However, now I realised I have problems running them on all my laptop and desktop with Windows 10. cry.gif

Anyone know if EA going to realise new C&C that work in Win10? Or any suggestion on workaround to play C&C in Win10? notworthy.gif

which C&C do you mean?

if it is the ancient one, have you tried openRA?

or CnCnet:

Btw, it was years ago... until I forgot what resolution I play... if can now play at Full HD will be nice...

I more sad...

First failed to run on my ultrabook with nVideo 840M (12GB RAM + SSD 500GB). Ram not enough? sweat.gif

Then I miss the game so much until bought a new desktop with i7, 32GB RAM + Samsung Pro 950 SSD etc... And again fail to run. cry.gif

All windows 10 original.

c&c generals is newer isnt it? have you tried enabling Windows XP sp3 in compatibility mode.

and try at Programs and Features, select "Turn Windows Features on or off", check the box marked "Legacy Components", and ensure the sub-checkbox "DirectPlay" is also checked.

what gpu you using? i know some old RTS like BFME cannot run with iGPU.

All tried... Even with various back-ward Windows version.

And on GPU, also tried with iGPU as well as NVidia. All same thing. Repeat on desktop also same... The only thing I did not try is with ATI/AMD graphic card as I do not have them.

Damn... This video made me suffering. I realized I missed some version in the past. I am desperate to play them now... Any suggestion? I really want to play them... Especially the higher resolution version. Buy from Origin and use VM? Then use which OS in VM? Any proven solution? Please share information such as which Direct-X for that OS also.

I don't know if VM can use the GPU, but if can, try Windows 7.

What error do you get? is it crash when launching or when loading? What is your pc specs, Win 10 64bit?

I assume is already Zero Hour and patched to latest? do you run with CD or no cd? or you mount the CD image? I'm not sure Origin one works out of the box.

If you installed/uninstalled too many times, find and clear the old registry keys for Generals first, careful not to delete wrong thing.

I google some say need replace the options.ini in Documents, https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums...7itproappcompat

QUOTE
create a txt file in "C:\Users\username\Documents\Command and Conquer Generals Data" and name it "options.ini"
Then copy paste the following lines in your options.ini and save

AntiAliasing = 1
BuildingOcclusion = yes
DrawScrollAnchor =
DynamicLOD = no
ExtraAnimations = yes
GameSpyIPAddress = 0.0.0.0
Gamma = 50
IPAddress = 0.0.0.0
IdealStaticGameLOD = High
LanguageFilter = true
MaxParticleCount = 5000
MoveScrollAnchor =
MusicVolume = 55
Resolution = 1024 768
Retaliation = yes
SFX3DVolume = 79
SFXVolume = 71
ScrollFactor = 50
SendDelay = no
ShowSoftWaterEdge = yes
ShowTrees = yes
StaticGameLOD = Custom
TextureReduction = 0
UseAlternateMouse = no
UseCloudMap = yes
UseDoubleClickAttackMove = no
UseLightMap = yes
UseShadowDecals = yes
UseShadowVolumes = yes
VoiceVolume = 100

Now the key bits - firstly, make sure that you have full read/write permissions for the Command and Conquer Generals Data folder - do this by right clicking on the folder, then  properties then the security tab and change the permissions for all users.  It might also be worth making sure no files are "Read-Only" in that folder.

Then change the game's compatibility mode by right clicking on the game in the start menu, clicking on properties and then the Compatibility tab.  I used the "Change settings for all users" button at the bottom and changed to Windows XP (SP3), as well as checking the "Run as administrator box".

It works, C&C anniversary collection. I have similar specs as him.

Processor: Intel i7 6700
GPU: GTX970
SSD: Samsung 850 pro or something (240GB)
HDD: multiple WD 6TB HDD
Operating System: Windows 10 Home

Just buy from Origins, it is like SGD6 plus.

Just bought it. Tried first game, I think the oldest C&C and it is running on my ultrabook Win 10.

I have a feeling that I do not need my new desktop for all the game. Maybe my notebook with nVideo 840M should be capable to handle the graphic.

Yes same here

All C and C cannot run on Win 10 - either blank screen or got screen but no mouse cursor
while in the game

Had to purposely install Win 7 on the HDD to dual boot - when got hunger for C and C then
restart to Win 7 - play until drop

then when want to do everything else reboot to Win 10 and play until drop

Actually the system requirements of Origin there also put Windows 7 only tongue.gif Although some people can run on x64 Win 10 no problem, some cannot run still. I oso use back old CD only with openRA/cncnet because I'm only interested in the older series, and for the old ones the content already abandonware, files provided by EA last time although they not hosted anymore. Origin version still ok la if on sale, for collectors or if you dont want to setup and download patch etc.

Enjoy... The greatest problem with this ultimate collection is.... It will require lots of time to go through the games... cry.gif

Generals : Zero Hour is the best around. biggrin.gif

I did enjoy RA3 too. As for the Tiberium series, the 2nd last was ok but the last one was too terrible to mention.
