Sorry... true story! *in all seriousness,,, technically you can get a wira to go that fast.. its just how much you want to pour into it and how much drivability you can sacrifice

We ppl like to compare which car is the fastest etc but neglect the main important aspect such as handling, steering feel and overall balance of the car. Gt86 is a reminder to us that good car not necessarily to be the fastest. It's about overall balance. It just the pricing in Msia screw up the much potential car here. Ppl will start comparing price in relation with 0-100 as usual

QUOTE(soohan @ Jun 6 2016, 07:13 PM) Would like to have some review about GT86. Why there is so less people driving GT86 in Malaysia? How's the car specification? Agree with most previous posts, it's because of the price. It's supposed to be an affordable entry level sports car that offers well balanced handling in a RWD chassis so you can have fun cornering and drifting but not for power. The std spec is only around 200HP/200nm, 0-100kph in about 7-8secs, so it's not that fast but not that slow either. However when marketed here, it's way overpriced at about rm240k hence only real hardcore rich enthusiasts would buy them. Anyway the second hand prices or recon prices are already dropping quite a lot whereby you can get 1 for around rm120-130k. Then if you do want more power, there are plenty of turbo/supercharger kits to boost it up as long as you have the money and the will. I personally like this car too but would never buy it at the current price level, maybe later once it drops below 100k. QUOTE(wk_edifire @ Jun 6 2016, 07:24 PM) It's not meant to compete with GTR in the first place, totally different market segment.

QUOTE(paganizonda @ Jun 6 2016, 09:10 PM) Well if u look at it in a different perspective its actually not that expensive although its around 240k if im not mistaken. With 240k u can get a car that handles so well on the road in terms of balance and u cant get a car that will drive like a gt86. But if you only want power and class you'd be better off with the germans! But in my honest opinion the engine is a little bit underpowered and it needs more torque. But u can always install aftermarket mods on your car! In Malaysia it is quote with sort of premium price. While is US it is in affordable price range. Yes it could due to tax related. But most don't want to spend this car price with less than 200hp? 197hp I guess is the hp quote by Toyota This post has been edited by ayamxxx: Jun 12 2016, 12:35 PM

no point buying it new, if u really wanna buy... get recon manual
this car in stock form has a torque dip, u will see it in dyno between 3400 to 4500 rpm u need to remap its ecu and change its exhaust header to fix it

for me it's overpriced but not too much. can't expect it to be priced 150k. 190k - 210k seems reasonable enough instead of 240k. the thing is this car is for the niche market. most of the fans are young people thus most don't have a budget for it. that's why it's rare. if you're talking about overpriced it's the mustang. they could've sold 2.3 ecobeast at golf R or at most A45 price instead of 400k.

QUOTE(theanswer @ Jun 7 2016, 10:38 AM) downside of this car is the price. but those who talk about its power..easily kene tapau..definitely didnt know what is 86 all about. u think ori hachi roku got lots of power ka? Actually most people know its not about its power. It's the action and result which hurts. The reality is, most Malaysian drivers can only push their cars (and ego too) on highway. Want or not this gt86 got tapau by bigger CC cars. Yes 86 is all about drivability and cornering etc...but how frequent does an average Msian has the chance to drive downhill routes in their daily lives?

For me I love the GT86/BRZ/FRS platform. It isn't known for it's speed, but known for it's ride and handling. Go ask any Miata owner in Malaysia, they don't look at the Miata for speed, but for sheer driving pleasure. If too slow, forced induction je. Malaysian's mindset is that they love to judge cars by their power output, not by it's intended purpose.
note: no, I don't drive a gt86 but would love to own one

I know a lot of ppl diss this GT86 for the lack of vrrooom/oppphh. Almost everytime the conversation about what car next with them and when the 86 is brought up, lack of power, too expensive etc well, i know tengku djan drove the GT68 with time of 2'38+- on track (i believe its pretty stock, no BFW or force inductions). I'm told there are people who dont believe it can be done.

If want power and speed better get a 250cc bike, it will tabao most cars on the road. GT86 spirit is all about skill, like mentioned in Initial D. By the way, ask Toyota sales guy already. They still accept booking for Prius C (RM150k) but not GT86 anymore. We can go for used or recond units only. I would like to own one too!
