does swimming in freestyle require more energy than breaststroke?

I pant more when swimming in freestyle compare to breaststroke, can't swim more than 25m in freestyle, my legs have to paddle like mad to avoid from sinking, I know it's not really the correct way sweat.gif

Hi Phak,

I just start learning swimming, since april this year. Starting I am just like you, 25m swim will be killing me, panting badly.

Have a look of this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJpFVvho0o4

This is how smoothly freestyle swim, relaxing. Total Immersion swimming videos are available in youtube, nice source to learn. I learn all from there. Freestyle for me is like kacang putih now rclxm9.gif

you can do the breathing part now? i still can't do it  doh.gif
*
yep~ breathing part now is getting better, either 2 strokes breath or 4 strokes, sometimes will purposely practice 3 strokes than breath. Trying to get used to breathing as well.

It's still amazing that you can swim 3KM just after 3 months... notworthy.gif
*
tongue.gif hehe, i still recall when i first attempt to swim freestyle. Drain my energy madly. The more I swim, i learn how to survive longer by changing the swimming style.

Now didn't swim that much compare to last 2 months. That time everyday swim 2hours, Mon ~ Sun daily. I guess got swim 40km per month LOLz

swimming can learn by urself if u got interest and patient. if got coach then is better la, but do bear in mind that usually they charge u 50 (at least) per hour. if u bring more pipu then he charge higher but after divide into student of course it become cheaper. but then u hardly interact v the coach when he teach many pipu concurrently. starting I think u need some company to start it out.
*
Yea, I also learn swimming by myself. Swimming is like learn how to cycle, u need to "catch" the feel how to balance yourself. Swimming also need the balancing, reduce drag by maintain body position.

I learn a lot from youtube with the sear title "total immersion" swimming video. It's so helpful!!! Provide all type of information how to swim correctly and effectively. Starting might need a lot of the effort to learn, but now I am able to swim 2km freestyle non stop, all is learning from the video.

so check it out smile.gif
