I KNOW ITS A LONG POST, BUT AT LEAST GIVE IT A QUICK READ AND TRY TO HELP ME

Hey guys, since I'm not a native English speaker, ill try to be as clear as possible.

I have a Cablemodem Internet connection, connected directly to my PC. I disconnected the Ethernet cable, then the modem power cable, waited about a minute, then re-connected the power cable. After that, i connected the Ethernet cable to the PS2. So the connection is simply a MODEM->PS2 connection, no router involved, piece o' cake... NOT.

After that, i loaded the "ONLINE STARTUP DISC". I selected to create a new connection, then i get the "BROADBAND or LOCAL AREA NETWORK" options. I red in a guide i should choose the LAN option, so i did. Then, i choose the AUTOMATIC connection. But here things start getting ugly: i select TEST SETTINGS, and i get a "Requesting DHCP configuration" message that stays for ever, 30 mins and nothing happens...

So, since the AUTOMATIC option didn't work, I chose MANUAL IP. The first option i select is SET MANUAL IP. I have 3 options, IP ADDRESS, NETMASK, and DEFAULT ROUTER. I try to edit the IP ADDRESS, but things start to turn Messi again. My IP address is 190.16.135.205. I was able to input the first part of the ip address (190.) but when i try to put the second part, the editor only lets me introduce 3 digits, not 2, so i cant get the "16". I tried to put 016 instead of 16, but it automatically puts a dot after the 0 (that is: 190.0.16 ...) theres absolutely no way of getting the correct ip address in...

So, with no expectations at all, since i couldn't get neither the automatic nor the manual online configuration, i tried, instead of LAN, selecting BROADBAND. I selected "BROADBAND AUTOMATIC/CABLE MODEM", then i select TEST SETTINGS, and BOOM!, again: "Requesting DHCP configuration". No luck at all.

So, geez louise, i ran out of options... that's why I'm here. Any kind of answer would be greatly appreciated.
