QUOTE(michaelho @ Jul 20 2016, 03:21 PM) MBB just called me and said there is this United Target Income Bond Fund (UTIBF) 7 ... guaranteed return 4.8pa for 3 years. Same like FD, he says but only catch is 3 years tenure. Sounds too good to be true. Apa catch?Sorry I am really noob in these bonds thingy This is a structured fund.....both principal and return are NOT guaranteed....the principal returned is the nav, which can be below par...and return is 'target' only....

QUOTE(munkeyflo @ Jul 28 2016, 05:19 PM) Doesn't matter. GIA can be placed online and can withdraw anytime. For that rate, it's a pretty good deal already. You can choose to go with conventional FD if you are worried about PIDM coverage. There's a maximum limit that PIDM covers anyway. i was responding to ramjade's comment about gia not being pidm covered, stating the fact that it also doesn't guarantee the capital.... it matters in theory, as that makes it a high risk product, and people should realise that...although in practice, in the short term, that risk is probably still very small....but depositors should know these facts... the returns are higher as the bank does not need to factor these gia deposits in their ssr calculations nor pay for pidm cover... If I am not mistaken, gia is not a guaranteed instrument, and your profit sharing return depends on the performance day to day....so when quoted return drops, your return will accordingly drop...
