hi guys need some opinions here between zen3 ZE520KL and zen3 laser.

i'm buying a new phone and in quite a tight budget (just had my p9 stolen weeks ago, bought it last november for 2k so already lost my budget for new phone there) and i use a phone for long term, never change my phone unless broken (or stolen...)

my original budget is rm1k so i'm wondering if top up a bit n buy zen3 is more worth it or should i just settle with laser?

my priority is 1)camera n 2)performance

n if there's any other model that u would suggest? (although i'm a bit reluctant to huawei/honor because i dont quite like the EMUI they use)
*
Sorry to hear about ur stolen phone also. My A9 Pro also got stolen / pickpocket in crowded public transport in Bangkok recently. Also bought in Nov for 2k

Now looking for a replacement phone, thinking skip Sammy and try other brands.

Still waiting for zenfone 3 zoom camera review
*
Yes, the specs on paper is good, but need real use review of the camera.
Saw some comments that the battery life is not good even with 5000 mAh battery

Seriously? I wonder why the battery life isn't good with that specs...
*
Maybe not efficient software. The comments was the camera drain battery.
hmm... maybe that's why they fitted in the 5000 mAh batt, maybe Asus engineer realise the issue.

If I ever get the phone will compare with my old Sammy A9 pro with 5k batt, it had seriously good batt life

Let's say if they sell brand new p10 or s7e at rm 1999..I will still choose Meizu pro 6 plus..
Why ?..Coz my personal preference is I like  the phone that less people is using
I hate to use  phone that every tom dick and Harry is using

*
S7E got so many people using meh... maybe you know many rich people. biggrin.gif haha... jk
I only know 2, one colleague and another friend which I sold my S7E to.. laugh.gif

But no doubt Sammy phones are common, Meizu I only have one friend using, and the model sucks.
Of course he claims it's the greatest phone since the invention of sliced bread.
Hehe... so yes, it's personal preference

QUOTE(ppavilion @ Apr 6 2017, 10:19 AM)
I bought zf3 zoom for my wife ..At first she liked it very much
Then she ask me to change to other phone  coz she is the type who  like to change case quite often..So ended up with s7 flat
That her personal preference..Good phone with variety of case everywhere even at pasar malam
*
Girls... lol, choices based on casing availability laugh.gif blink.gif

Last I heard, Xiaomi phones are only average-good with their camera performances. Not to mention that their MIUI is one of the more bogged down OS. I'm also unsure of their after-sales support on either software or hardware, but I assume they don't update their phones after it left the factory, maybe only for those security patches.

But I do understand that people usually buy Xiaomi phones for their specs, and install custom ROM as soon as possible to get the most out of the hardware.

So far I'm quite happy with my Xiaomi RN4.

Love how responsive the fingerprint scanner is compared to the discontinued Samsung Note 7 and my lost A9 pro.
Camera of course not so good.

> a month usage, so far the OS is ok. Of course not perfect, still got few occasion hang a bit.

The UI got updated twice OTA since I got it.

Too bad, I was interested in the zoom, but the lack of review to me means it's probably lacking in the camera dept, the main selling point.

So pre-ordered the S8+ instead. Which has many positive reviews.

zenfone 3 zoom user reported here, so far the phone is quite smooth although using snapdragon 652. I didnt play games but heavily using social media like whatsapps and wechat for work and waze everyday. All in all it is really suitable for heavy user like me because of the beast 5000mAH battery! Camera is ok ok, not very impressive but acceptable. Btw my previous phone was Samsung Note 5.
*
How's the camera compared to the Note 5 ?

The camera performance imo both are good in terms of sharpness, the colour i think zenfone 3 zoom is more natural.

*
Thank you for the comparison. rclxms.gif

Yeah, the zenfone seems to take darker photo compared to the Note 5.
It doesn't live up to it's claim of being built for photography even against an older model like the Note 5 hmm.gif

My less than 1 month old Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom developed a display problem, got horizontal line appeared, annoying.

Need to sent for warranty claim...
A bit disappointed in the quality control

On the positive side, at least the warranty was registered in Asus system even though I bought online from Lazada and had no receipt except the delivery note.

FYI for those considering purchasing.
Don't get those grey import, afraid later no warranty.

got a horizontal line across the display at the bottom part... like a line of missing pixel color. i.e Red, green, blue.. like one of the color is missing... so you can see a line.

Wouldn't recommend Asus to others after this. Two friends previously also had mixed feeling about their phones.
I thought give them a chance since when in Taiwan I saw Asus is very popular... of course that's to be expected

Most of the others over here didn't face the same issue, so I'm not really sure on why some are affected as such. Yours is Malaysia's Set right? Maybe there are certain batches that are affected. Seems like percentage of getting a lemon unit from Asus is not great for the customers. Asus should really run their devices with test (or verify the parts used are from a good source) and even more important, improve their after sales service.
*
Yes, Malaysia set.

I googled and seems display issue with Asus phones is not a new problem.

Is it? There are up to 7 Asus phones around me, and only 2 have touchscreen problem. The screen is fine. But I do search the issue with the white line, and there are a number of people experiencing it on the web. But it would be so much easier if Asus' customer service were much nicer, more polite and more efficient.
*
So far did not have any issue with their customer service.... just the quality of the products

Yours is ZF3 Zoom? i noticed white line after a week bought it, delay after Raya holidays before sending to SC.
they took 3 days to repair and it was ok only for 3 days! then the white line is back.... and before it happens, i can see the line flickering before it became permanent.
*
Yup, the line flickering before it became permanent.
Mine lasted about 2 weeks maybe before the problem came back.

Where is your white line located ? ... mine was at the extreme bottom side. So not obvious.
All my friends didn't notice it. Of course we the owner sure realize the problem.

the 2nd time is not so noticeable but still annoying....

Yeah... it's unacceptable... can't expected to use defective product

QUOTE(Userzero @ Jul 20 2017, 08:42 AM)
white line below is common for 1st batch or batch 4/2017 navy blue 4gb. batch 5/2017 above asus has rectify the problem it seems according to my reading. still the line is below the screen you can still ignore. hows the camera?
*
I didn't pay flagship level money for defective product.

Camera is great, of course not 100% on par with say S7 or S8.
But I like the features in the manual (some will call it Pro mode) where you can control everything yourself.

For me my main criteria was excellent camera with excellent battery life (5000mAh) without unnecessary stuff which I normally don't use like IP68 rating, NFC, wireless charging..

QUOTE(helenaiir @ Jul 20 2017, 06:31 PM)
i get ZF3 horizontal line problem, btw if i bring it to ASC, do i get replacement or they just repair it?
*
Dunno what they did, the first time, after I got the phone back... the problem seems solved, of course it came back... and now waiting for the 2nd repair.

yeah its too bad. last time an honest shop keeper told me during nokia heydays....never buy the 1st batch....but that time nokia phone I didn't care because I know software upgrade will solve problem. but about the asus zenfone 3 zoom 1st batch problem being permanent....I don't know what to say. never happen to other phones without fix.Try reading at gsmarena many people replaced the phone 3 times after service problem pop up again. I hope you find a solution. But if I were you I ll live with it. if the line is in the middle of screen I might go mad. If you have money get a second batch asus. I'm thinking of getting one asus zenfone 3 zoom...such a remarkable phone
*
Just got it back from 2nd warranty claim ~2.5 weeks ago, and since last weekend using it daily.

So far screen problem seem to be solved (we see long term how), battery life seem improved after latest firmware update. Phone lasted ~4 days on a single charge (Sunday night to Thursday evening, with 15% still left), with ~9 hours screen on time, and normal usage of chats, social media, internet browsing, GPS, and even a 1 hour teleconference on speakers.... but no youtube or games.

But not all good, now playing videos there are lags (video and audio out of sync), need to restart the phone, then it's back to normal.

Gonna keep my spare phone as backup in case need to send this Asus ZF3 Zoom for 3rd warranty claim
