just wonder if our doctrine about combine of jungle and armor warfare (yeahh.. tank guerrilla fun-fare)at ulu area..do any active protection like trophy will play major factor as defence shield as our jungle make of hard and tall trees with small space in between..i believe the combat area between combatants may be around 20-25 meters only..

The main jungle areas (Sabah, sarawak and Pahang) will be an infantry affair.vehicles other than a LR defender cannot pass through there.

The main areas where tanks will be are low density and palm oil plantation areas.around Perak, selangor,NS and outskirts of KL

Tanks at the end will be forced to stick to the outskirts of the jungle or become static defense.

due to the nature of the jungle,APS such as trophy will cause a lot of friendly fire because infantry will need to stick to tanks closely.but tanks can't move without infantry as they are prone to ambushes.but the tanks will be hard to kill because any sort of top attack or SACLOS/MCLOS missile cannot manoeuvre without hitting foliage.so the best bet is to spam the tanks with close range RPGs

IINM APS not very suitable for jungley areas as the trees may interfere with the radar and maybe even the projectile - imagine you launch the weapon but it sangkut on branch doh.gif

Got lots more important things to spend money on IMHO... like MRCA, MPAs, OPVs and Gowinds bangwall.gif

South Korea Mulling Purchase of 20 More F-35 Stealth Fighter Jets

South Korea is considering procuring 20 more F-35s to enhance its air combat power vis-à-vis the North.

By Franz-Stefan Gady
September 14, 2016

Given recent North Korean provocations, the Republic of Korea (ROK) Air Force is considering purchasing 20 additional fifth-generation stealth multirole Joint Strike Fighter F-35As—the aircraft’s conventional takeoff and landing variant—in order to boost its air combat capabilities in the event of war with North Korea, according to senior ROK defense officials.

The expansion of ROK air power is currently under discussion as the South is working on a plan to simultaneously eliminate all North Korean missile bases and other key military facilities in the North in the event of a conflict. “As North Korea appears to have enhanced its nuclear and missile capabilities in recent years, we are mending our existing wartime strike programs against the North,” a ROK defense official told Yonhap news agency. The F-35A would be an integral part of this ‘knock out blow’ strategy given its ability to operate in well-defended enemy airspace due to its stealth capabilities.

South Korea and the United States signed a so-called Letter of Offer and Acceptance for the purchase of 40 F-35A fighter jets with conventional take-off and landing (CTOL) capability in September 2014. A contract was awarded on August 23 of this year by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) under the Pentagon’s Foreign Military Sales program. While South Korea reduced the original request from 60 to 40 aircraft, the agreement between the United States and South Korea stipulates that 20 additional F-35A fighter jets can be procured at a later stage depending on the security environment on the Korean peninsula. The ROK Air Force expects to begin deploying the first F-35As in 2018 with all 40 aircraft slated for delivery by 2021.

Lockheed Martin, the aircraft maker producing the F-35 series, won the $7 billion defense deal  by promising to provide 25 technologies associated with the F-35 to help kick start South Korea’s KF-X fighter aircraft program. The objective of the $15 billion KF-X fighter program is to build 120 stealth fighter jets for the ROK Air Force and another 80 for the Indonesia Air Force (TNI-AU) between 2025 and 2030. However, the United States refused to share four (active electronically scanned radar, the infrared search-and-rescue systems, the electro-optical targeting pod and the radio frequency jammer) out of the 25 technologies.

Some analysts speculated that the Pentagon’s decision not to share the four sensitive technologies could lead to the cancellation of the entire F-35A contract. This appears to have been unfounded, although I have reported in 2015 that there are signs that South Korea is increasingly looking for European military hardware given the more lenient policies of European countries when it comes to transferring sensitive military technology (See: “Is Europe Conquering South Korea’s Defense Sector?”). Canceling the F-35A deal would leave South Korea without a fifth-generation fighter for years. Given the current security environment on the Korean peninsula, this is an unacceptable scenario for South Korean political and military leaders.

15 September 2016

The ST Kinetics Terrex 3 was displayed for the first time at DVD 2016. It is one of the likely runners for the British Army's MIV 8x8 requirement. (photo : Jane's)

Bidders line up for British Army's MIV 8x8 requirement

Contenders for the British Army's Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV) requirement were out in force at Defence Vehicle Dynamics (DVD) 2016 at Millbrook Proving Ground on 7 and 8 September.

MIV will be an 8x8 procured off-the-shelf and fitted with a minimum number of UK sourced sub-systems such as remote weapon station, communications, battle management system and seating. According to David Russell, MIV Team Leader "MIV is now in the concept phase" and with "the team building up rapidly".

Potential contenders that showed up at DVD 2016 were the Finnish Patria Armoured Modular Vehicle (AMV) and the latest AMV XP variant, the French Nexter Systems VBCI, Singapore Technologies Kinetics Terrex 3, the ARTEC Boxer, and from General Dynamics (GD) the Piranha 5 and General Dynamics Land Systems LAV. GD could also be in a position to offer the Stryker double-V-hull (SDVH), the LAV 6.0 or the LAV 700 depending on the UK requirements.

MIV is a 'Category A' programme and the acquisition strategy is now being firmed up.

While no numbers are available it is expected that between 300 and 350 MIV would be required with a potential initial operating capability of 2023. The vehicles will in part equip two battalions from within the new 'Strike Brigades' that the army is to form, these brigades will also include the Ajax tracked reconnaissance vehicle.

In addition to the baseline protected mobility (PM) variant of MIV (MIV-PM), other versions including a command and control (MIV-CC), ambulance (MIV-A), repair (MIV-REP) and recovery (MIV-REC) are also planned.

The baseline MIV is planned to be fitted with a Kongsberg Protector RWS armed with a 12.7 mm (.50 cal) machine gun although there is potential version with a heavier armament.
