QUOTE(Bloopie @ May 26 2016, 04:04 AM)
Hey everyone, I'm looking to build myself a home gym in the new future. It's actually one of my dreams, though I've only lifted for around 6 months and look like a DYEL dude. I'm only looking for the bare necessities, just squat/deadlift/bench press all week is fine to me. I just want to know how much the stuffs that I need to do these exercises are gonna cost me. (Squat rack, barbell, plates..?)

Anyone with experience building their own home gym want to share?

Just sharing, this is my shopping list
https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...&#entry79242972
The bar might able to hold 40kg each side at max before permanent bend thou the seller says it can hold upt to 260kg, I really doubt that.
To avoid being flamed, I do not have any equipment to do a pressure test on the equipments but I did tried to put 25kg on each side of the barbell and there is a very minimal bend when look carefully. A decent barbell can cost up to 1k if i remember correctly
Next, I may looking to replace the string of the lat pull area mainly I don't trust China made product for heavy duty use, it still safe on 40kg pull but I'm just being a little bit paranoid.

Outcome

Again, this is for lightweight purpose, not commercial gym standard. Lift at your own risk.

Normally for equipment you just http://www.lelong.com.my/

Reason why I asked because I can't find a 50cmx50cm rubber mat at RM20, unless import from China.
I also doubt the quality of barbell in lelong mainly they are cheap bar from China which can't hold much weight, probably max at 120kg before it bends and snaps. At person at 70kg or 80kg can easily out lift that weight.

Yeah pretty much I was aiming for RM3k too.. Mind asking what the parallel bar looks like? I'm thinking of getting the squat cage but it seems way too costy for ~rm3k price range for whole set.
Looks sweet bro. But that bar doesn't seem to be standard 20kg.  Would you recommend all the products imported from china?

That is 1.8m olympic bar (mainly for female lifter) but it only weight 12kg
I have never see a real 20kg Olympic bar even the 2.2m bar in Body Factory Gym that I'm training currently weight 16kg only, therefore I assume they are china made bar too.
Previously was in Nova Fitness Citta mall, the 2.2m bend ridiculously because some trainer deadlifting it with 5 plates each side, I assume they are china made bar too, they only cost about RM150 per bar @taobao, insane cheap right? vs those professional bar like Eleiko, Rogue which can cost a bomb.

Would I recommend stuff from China? Yes / No
It depends on your goal. I'm a small size guy which I foresee the highest body weight I can reach will impossible to go beyond 70kg in my life(currently at 60kg) so when I aim to deadlift 2.2 of my body weight, it will be 154kg include bar, with my equipment, I guess the equipment still can sustain that weight, but I want to get a proper bar when wallet allows.
If I go beyond that, which also indicates I have enough budget to feed myself, might as well I sign commercial gym membership, with complete equipment. Just my 2cents.

I found a quite good article for Chine bar. Good read if you can read chinese.
http://bbs.hupu.com/4993248.html

It says
The cheapest 2.2 bar is around 14kg-16kg, which approximately can hold up to 150kg to 200kg, not suitable for heavy deadlift.

What you pay is what you get. I don't recommend getting unbranded equipment from lelong or mudah as 99% are imported from china. You'll be surprise to see the price sold in China and you can guesstimate the quality, it also depends on how much weight you gonna lift with those equipment. I myself not lifting very heavy at the moment so I dare to take the risk to get cheap one out of curiosity. biggrin.gif

Actually you only need a bar that can hold 180kg to reach close to genetic limit. Keep your training in 5-12RM for lifetime.

True for someone that is below 80kg, and deads being the heaviest exercise. Generally, if the person that is lean and beyond 80kg and lifting at advance level, he should be able to afford a decent bar or decent gym membership.
Which in other words, china bar is fine lulz doh.gif

Is that Apex bench? Is it stable? Rigid? Saw it in taobao probably cost RM300 to import.

I come across with a barbell test. Not sure what cheap bar he use but looks like can handle quite amount of weight before perma bend, and it doesn't snap rclxms.gif

My friend also intro me a gym called Gympark in Klang Utama, which they also distributes gym equipment, gotta pay a visit one day.
