Emm... have you checked on your browser plugin? Is there any malicious plugins/add on installed. If got, remove the plugin first. Sometimes you may accidentally clicked on random ads and it will install the plugin and the plugin will install something without your concern.

If you 100% sure that the software is not standalone software, maybe the software goes by different name. Thats why you cannot find it control panel.

What Windows you use? If Win 10, go Task Manager, Start up, and look for unfamiliar programs to disable. Also can try disable everything temporary and test one by one.
For older Windows, from a run box type 'msconfig' and select the Startup Tab.

Yes, i agree with this. If the app is running on the background, chances are you will find it process on task manager. Just check for any unknown processes, If you found one, right click on it and choose open file location. Now you know where the application folder is located.

Next, you can try to find something like uninstall.exe or uninst.exe inside that folder, if there's any then you can use that to uninstall the app, or you can use 3rd party uninstaller, and point it to the folder.
