Yes you can - however with a big limitation:

If your laptop has an Intel Skylake CPU (i.e. 6th generation Intel CPU), you are going to receive updates for 7/8.1 until 2018:

After 2018 - only critical updates will be issued to such machines. It is also worth mentioning that future CPUs such as Kaby Lake/Cannonlake will support Windows 10 only.
