My family is going holiday in a week and ayam handling their flight checkin purpose.

1. During check-in online, the web asked about number of checked baggage per person, can we play safe and put the numbers more than the bags we have?

2. The home tag (print bag tag at home), it mentions that the plastic covers need to get it at the airport. Who has experience doing this? Where are the plastic covers anyway, at the counters? need queue to get them?

3. Instead of printing home tags ourselves, can we just print the bag tags at the airport?

inb4 not airasia customer service

=========================

Update 1

So previously I stopped the check in process half way when the site asked about the number of bags (defaulted to 1 bag per pax). Then I closed the browser tab without continuing.

So then I tried to checked in again, but the system said all guesses checked in liao shocking.gif
No choice I needed to choose the reprint boarding pass option, lucky all passport numbers were there, BUT self print bag tags were not included! I guess I have no choice but to ask them to print the bag tags at the kiosks (if AirAsia allows this, if not chaos!)

==========================

Update 2

Fortunately we could print the bag tags at the kiosk. I am not sure if we could reprint the tags anytime at the kiosk, or this was because the glitch that I mentioned in update 1.

At kiosk we needed to specify the number of bags for departure per group, not per person. No passenger name is printed at the tags. (small stickers from the tags would be removed and stuck to the bag and ticket stub later).

They would probably charge if you print at the airport.

No I mean if we don't print the tag at home, can we print the tags at the kiosk?

I find it crazy that we need to know the number of bags in advance (even for the return flight) during checkin online. Is it safe to mark up the number of bags?

I think is safe to mark up the number of bags because in the end, you still need to drop the bag at the counter as shown on the video I posted above.

Question 1, I think answered from the video. The kiosk should be able to do both.....not sure if it can only do one (i.e. print bag tag) but not the other. Doesn't make sense if they do it like that though.

Question 2. I think so. They base it on weight. Not number of pieces of luggage.

I think the number is so that they can print u how many tags. If u got 3 bag, then they print out 3 copy of the tag lo. Then when u drop off the bag, they will still measure the weight.

This is what worries me. You see once you checkin online, they assume you print the boarding passes already, and you cannot print boarding the boarding passes at the kiosk (who design this can win a Noble prize). I just afraid that the same idea is used for self print bag tags too.

I have 10 travellers in the group, if I markup 2 bags per passenger, I need to print 40 bag tags (to and return) at home.

During checkin online, did they ask you to specify the number of checked bag?

At the kiosk, can we change the number of bags?

http://www.airasia.com/ask/template.do?id=169

You can pre-book up to 40 kgs per guest. Please be advised that there is no limit of number of baggage to be checked in as long as the total weight does not exceed the prebooked weight and if it exceeds the prebooked baggage weight, every kilo after will be charged an Excess Baggage Fee .

Please see the rates for excess baggage here - http://www.airasia.com/my/en/our-fares/fees-and-charges.page?

Please be informed that every check in baggage should not exceed 32 kgs.

The problem is this self print bag tag is new, and now it is incorporated into online checkin.

During online checkin it asks number of bags per pax already. Problem will arise if during bag tag print at kiosk and we are not allow to increase the number. Let's hope the system is more flexible.

I think coming back from overseas you will need to print your own since there won't be any kiosk at overseas airport?

What is the point of printing our own bag tags when we still need to go the counter and have the AA personnel check it? It is not fully automated and we still spend as much time queuing in line for the baggage check...

I guess time spend at the counter will be reduced.
Only thing different is if you use the kiosk, you scan your passport and check yourself in as well but if you print the tags at home, they still need to check your passport

Okay I just flew off on Saturday night/Sunday early morning.

I web check in like I always do. They asked for number of luggage as you've mentioned. I put 2 cause I know got 2. Printed out the stupid A4 paper bag tag which looks stupid. Nvm.

Wented to airport. Not many ppl so wented to kiosk and print luggage tag. It asked for how many luggage. I put 2. Print out 2 luggage tag like normal that goes around your bag handle. I prefer these than A4 paper in plastic bag. Wented to counter. Drop my luggage at counter as usual, just the girl didn't tag my luggage cause tagged edi.

I guess you can put more luggage than actual number if you dunno how many luggage will be checked in.

There's no purchase bag for ONE item. Airasia is purchase weight, you want throw how many bags at them to check in also no issue.

That one no need. This is only for guest flying FROM klia2.

AirNZ is print luggage tag directly at their kiosk. They don't exactly have check in counters lol. But there always no queue wan.

Jetstar always require us to put in how many check in bags we have when we web check in. But doesn't require us to print baggage tags.

Okay I think my question solved liao. I think can simply put any number first (what's the point really), then go to airport and specify the real bag numbers and print the bag tags.

Why is it crazy to know the number of bags in advance? You are supposed to check in for a flight a few hours before , not 1 week before. Just check in on your phone air asia app after you leave the house on the way to the airport and print the tag once you are there, problem solved.

Yes, no problem. The important thing is the bar code can be read by the bar code reader.

Have you tried to manage a group of 10 people on a holiday before? They go for holiday and they shop. To know how many bags when they depart is no problem, but to know how many bags they return is impossible unless you can predict the future.

Ok thank you for your advise. What I am asking is actually do I need to color print the whole sheet of paper. As in the video the AA logo is in RED.

Of course can.

You can always reprint baggage tag at the kiosk at the airport.

the problem use this system just we need to clear first how many bag we need to brings as luggage. because during web check-in, instruction page will prompt you how many bag want to check-in.

my practice was use web check-in at the terminal before boarding. therefore i'm know how man bag i want to check-in. sometime there have additional bag or item need to check-in also. most of the additional item is from flight back from vacation/visit.

Yes can print again at the kiosk. It'll prompt you how many bags you checking in.

I don't use the self print bag tag (A4 size paper). I just go to airport and reprint my bag tags.

Ok guys,

I just check in KUL to HAN (hanoi) and also the return HAN to KUL. Found that the system only show bag tag for KUL to HAN ...... no HAN to KUL....
at the end only KUL to HAN bag tag available to print.

Go online chat with AirAsia helpdesk...

Talk and talk..... what i can conclude after chat is.....

Bag Tag is just for KUL to any place (beside KUL of course).... , if you are from any place (beside KUL) come back to KUL , then just perform normal baggage dropping at any place airport baggage counter (beside KUL of course) will do.

2nd. if you miss out print the bag tag during online check-in at home, the only way to reprint is via kiosk at KUL airport.

3rd. if you print not enough / lost the printed bag tag / add-on luggage - the only way to reprint is also via kiosk at KUL airport.

ish....... waste me 1 hour to wait to chat with AA helpdesk.

and what a stupid system which trouble so much at the end still need to drop the baggage at the counter and still need the staff to scan bar code =_=
why not just let the staff stick and scan which is more fast and less mistake come out.

Oh ya... some info that might answer some of your question :

if you plan to carry tripod , umbrella , powerbank....

Tripod and Umbrella MUST check in
Powerbank MUST Hand Carry

any electrical device with battery, if you wanna check in , better took off the battery.

Also please take note AIR ASIA Baggage allowance is calculate by weight , not by piece of baggage.
Mean that you buy 20KG baggage allowance , you can check in as many bag as you like as long as the weight of all beg is not more then 20KG

Oh ! One more new rules which i just aware.

When you book an air ticket from Air Asia, make sure you buy the check in baggage allowance together.

because if you buy baggage allowance later ( i mean such as add-on luggage via online after you had purchase air ticket) it will be much more expensive....

Example :
20KG , during buy air ticket , price RM58 , after buy air ticket , price RM67

blood sucker..... =_=

==========================

Go to the airport and find the bag tag print kiosk at KLIA2 (checkin hall). You can change the number of bags you like. No need to worry.

I am assuming you are talking about the boarding pass here, and not the bag tags.

If you have checked in via web, you cannot reprint the boarding pass at normal kiosks at the checkin hall.
You need to find the kiosks outside of the checkin hall, on the same floor just next to the escalator to go down. There are kiosks with online web interface, and the kiosk has the built in printer connected. So from the top main menu, choose web check-in, choose reprint boarding pass.

Hand carry bag still limit to 7KG?

How about DSLR + Flash?

With other items (like notebook, powerbank) together then may exceed 7kg?

Can DSLR hang at the shoulder and let them just weight the carry in bag?

It was havoc and long queue.
I dont think self tag printing help to fasten the process.

Hi!

Wanna ask, is there charges for printing bag tags at kiosk? I already checked in via web but didn't print my bag tags.

Was wondering whether can just print bag tags at kiosk without need for checking in at kiosk? Cos from the video I understand that the fella checked in at kiosk and print the bag tags.

Thanks!

No extra charges.

You can check in online (and print the boarding pass without bag tags), then go to baggage kiosk to print out the bag tags - you can change the number of bags here.

The concept is simple

As long you do yourself at kiosk , there are no charges , reprint boarding pass or baggage tags or whatever , diy free

Only if go counter then they might charge

hi,

I work with the airlines. yes you can print more bagtag. it dosent link your luggage tag number yet when you print it out.it will record and link it to your booking number once you drop it at counter (counter staff will link your luggage with your booking). you may get the hometag from airasia counter when you come to airport. you will be charge for counter boarding pass but not bagtag.
