Just received a mysterious sample today. Nice fitting, trendy outlook & most importantly, fabulous sound!
I’m totally fall in love with its natural warm sound and rich music body. Bass is flexible and solid, sounds like a Sennheiser headphones.

The designer team is from TTpod.
TTpod has stopped their IEM line since last year. So their former designers came out with a new brand named TFZ (The Fragrant Zither).

Series 1 is their lowest range IEM.

Features:
- Dual dynamic driver + Dual chamber
- N50 magnet with titanium crystal diaphragm, thickness is only 5 micron

It comes with 10 different colors.
I personally prefer wooden and carbon fiber. icon_idea.gif

Very analog sounding, treble is smooth.
It's not a bright or analytical sound IEM. smile.gif

Price on Taobao is RMB239, convert to Ringgit around 150-160.

For my ear, comfortability is not a problem. I've tried those eartips that comes with the box. I personally prefer the double flange one. It has best clarity and details, but the size is a bit big for me. The m size silicon tips fit me well, it has more bass and lower mids. The comply is the warmest one.

TFZ sound signature is totally different with IM50 and IM70. IM50/70 is more solid and punchy, the TFZ is more natural, airy and smoother.
IM50/70 has more quantity of bass (especially the im50), but TFZ has fuller and moisture mids.

R8 is more bassy and punchy. TFZ is more balance and natural. Imaging closer. Mids is fuller and warmer, suitable for more music genre including vocal and instrumental.

Besides, TFZ is dual driver. It has better sound stage and separation. The details and transparency also better.

R8 has its own advantage also. It has fuller bass, detachable cable and more complete accessories. smile.gif

So tfz is better for vocal. While r8 is more bassy?

If coming from im50. Which one would i appreciate/suitable more?

R8 or tfz? In your opinion.

Thank you

Sound wise I prefer TFZ, but if you prefer something with more bass, detachable cable and good accessories, R8 will be a good choice too.

Sound quality wise, IM50 and TFZ are very closed, but the signature are quite different. IM50 is using detachable cable, so the sq can be improved after changing a better cable.

"Which one is the best" is very subjective, if can audition by yourself is better. smile.gif

Will the TFZ sit flush when worn like the Auglamour R8? I'm looking for one for bike rides so it'll be under the helmet.

Just received my Series 3 this afternoon. Pretty solid build quality overall, though the shiny TFZ sign you see on promo picture is actually a sticker that you need to apply yourself, and not an inlay.

A bit surprise how good it sounds for the price - very solid performance. It has kind of a similar tuning to Hifiman RE1000 - warmish, decent but smooth treble, really sweet vocal range and a very deep rumbling bass. The big difference is that RE1000's treble is much more delicate and soundstage is more expensive. However, given the big price different, I will say Series 3 is still an absolutely good buy.

Well, after zooming in (I'm on the phone browser lol) its probably more like a RM500 unit to me

Comparison between S3 and S1

user posted image

Just received S3 on last Thursday. I was a little disappointed when I unbox it. Damn...the S1 that I received few weeks ago seem to sound slightly better!

So I started to wonder, is it because of the S3 still new? So I unboxed another new S1 for testing, and I found out that run in is absolutely important for TFZ IEM!
SQ ranking:
S1 after burn in for 100+ hours ≥ new S3 > new S1

After burn-in the S3 for 2 days, the improvement is noticeable. Now I can confidently say that S3 is definitely higher range than S1.
tongue.gif

The sound signature of S1 and S3 are quite similar - analog, natural and warm. Both of them are more to the dark side. Mids is full and lush. It has good quantity of bass but not very boomy.

The difference is, S1 is even warmer and more juicy.
S3 has better expansion of treble and bass. Quantity of mids is slightly lesser than S1.
S3 also has better transparency, sound stage, details and separation. It still a musical and analog sounding IEM, but it is less coloured, more neutral and balanced than S1.

Really like my S1, OOTB sounds so beautiful, musical. I think it is colored in a good way. Definitely tuned towadrs bass, although not bassy in quantity. and the spaces between instruments is awesome, just the way I like it.
Made me want to put away my Shozy Zero for a while... biggrin.gif cool.gif

Any people has a close up comparison for S1 and S3? Are they same size?
I have a situation where my ear cannot even fit Shure SE215 properly, so I have trouble with many IEMs. cry.gif

If anyone is kind enough to post a close up comparison with Yamaha EPH-100 or Nebula One.

Thank you very very much. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

S1, damn nice sound signature, smooth mids and nice treble, no harsh & fatigues, usually dynamic drive more or less has high treble an issue.
From S1 gave me very balance and smooth mids, bass will be slightly sonic bass than others BAs drivers IEM.
The overall tunes was awesome and balanced reference IEM.
The bass are really great punchy & solid bass an over your ears.
S1 + Mojo = Heaven, really really enjoyable.. The outcome would be warmer than others BAs drivers.
I love S1 very balanced, not too sharp for treble and not too low mids with not too lack bass.. Everything just right for me.
Thanks to TFZ S1.
Cheap = Good

Saw that there's two type and priced differently each. How much is it expected here?

Series 7 should be released around September (if no delay)
Yup comes with 2 type. The more expensive one China retail is RMB1999.

Series 5 just released last week. I received the demo set already.
Haven't testing yet. Burn-in ing. Will update some reviews later smile.gif

Guys..
This is not one of those overhyped IEMs right?

TFZ Series 5 vs 3
Is it worth the price bump?
I don't mind a bassy IEM since I was using Piston Hybrid which is quite bass heavy and lost them.. Now finding a replacement for it.
I read that Series 3 is very bassy and Series 5 is a bit less?

I have Philips SHP9500 for normal listening and IEMs for sports and outside, which is why I don't mind it if it's a bit bass heavy.

Gearbest is selling LZ-A2S at 50 usd, so I am considering between LZ and TFZ, any opinions?

TQ!

Got the TFZ Series 5 2 weeks ago..

Quite underwhelmed, slightly disappointed.
Maybe hyped too much, expected too much.
People were trying to mod it to reduce bass, but I felt that the bass was not enough..

Just bought a pair from Star pickers today, the TFZ-5 I got somehow has less bass than the presumably well-broken in pair (this is a good thing). This actually sounds very balanced now, with silicon tips.

Thanks for your review. For new iems, sound will be more stable after run in around 200 hours (doesn't mean you have to let it run continuously tongue.gif ) . Just dun turn the volume too loud. Slightly lower than the normal listening volume will do. It will sound even better biggrin.gif

Intial impression, sound stage is good but kinda underwhelming as I was expecting a lot due to the rave reviews, but well let's see how it goes afer some burning in.

Hi, before and after burn in differ quite a lot to me. You can feel the difference even letting it burn in overnight. Also the silver plated cable require more time. It will be a bit weird and not so smooth when you just unboxing it. smile.gif

The newly released Series 5s and 3s
"S" version (eg. 1s, 3s, 5s) will sound more neutral and transparent than the without "s" version. It's designed for pro audio monitoring or audiophiles who prefer cleaner sounding.

This is the third version of Series 5/3.
1st: Series 3/5 with OFC cable. Most bassy.
2nd: Series 3/5 with silver plated PFC cable. Quantity of bass slightly lesser but has brighter treble.
3rd: Series 3s/5s with silver plated PFC cable. Bass is much lesser but the resolution has been improved a lot. The most neutral version. To me it's like a LCD-X in Audeze series.

Now the Series 3 has been stopped production. 3s will replace it.
But the 1 & 5 still have two version: 1&1s, 5&5s.

Just received my TFZ Series 5 from Stars Picker, coming from Mi Piston 2.1 Gold, the bass wasn't so on point for the TFZ, now i letting it for a run in and see how it performs later.

I actually audited a Audio Technica E40 before this at some other audio shop, was about to buy one but was out of stock, but i'm lucky i found out about TFZ Series from other LYN member after digging more what i can buy within the price range.

Not coming out a review as i'm no audiophile, i knew that TFZ Series 1 is a good bassy earphone so i not sure how much differs it is between Series 1 and 5, but for bass head that wanted something that isn't too bassy until you have to let your ears to rest, this is one of the great earphone you should consider!

Some dril picture for showcasing purposes.

Anyone manage to get your TFZ Series 5's cable to sit nicely on your ear? I know it can be fixed by using the ear-hooks, just curious if there is a trick to get it sit nicely without using them.

I use the spectacles frame to fix it on my ear haha.
Will request TFZ to improve this. I think the design like ATH or Shure IEMs are easier to sit nicely on ear.

Balance 2 is sitting in my ears as I'm typing. Balanced 2/2M has 2 variations, making it 4 combinations in total.

Variations:

Detachable / Silver - Lovely. Reminds me of Vega a lot (not that it is as good as Vega, but my perception of their basic signature: Big bass. Slightly sharper mids).
Detachable / Gold - Reminds me of Cardas EM5813 shell. It has very, very beautiful jewelry-like shell. But the mids kinda sucked up into the back row, leaving a very, very big bass in front. Heavier, and the metal shell feels absolutely chilling in air-cond room. Enjoyable wear if you don't mind some weight.
Non-detachable / Silver - In my ears right now. Impression reserved for further usage.
Non-detachable / Black - Almost the same as the detachable one. Slightly sharper mids and perceived detail. Don't know why.

-the above impression is made by a very amateur listener, tq-

Balance 2 or 2M comes with 2 kinds of housing.

1. electrolytic copper: B2M gold & B2 black
2. magnalium alloy: B2M grey & B2 white

The copper one sounds darker and warmer. Imaging more solid and focus. Lesser ambience and airyness.
Magnalium wise, overall more neutral and brighter. Sound stage is wiser and more airy. It is much lighter too.

2M comes with a free silver plated OCC upgraded cable. It will improve the details and transparency if comapre with stock cable.
If using the stock cable, 2M & 2 with the same housing sounds very very close.

--------
My Short Review (share from FB)

Balance 2 & 2M are using the latest N52 dynamic driver, which provide better details, resolution and transparency. At the same time, they still remain TFZ house sound, which is analog, warm and natural. The imaging is still solid, punchy and lively but the clarity and transparency are improved.

Both of them are using the same driver, cable, housing and tuning, the only difference is Balance 2M comes with MMCX detachable cable and Balance 2's cable is fixed.

They are IEMs with great potential. If you are planning to upgrade a better cable for it in the future, 2M will be a better choice. You will notice the improvement easily after changing a better cable. Balance 2 wise is a value buy as the price is RM300 cheaper.

Hi Sifus, what are the differences between series 3s and 1s? Worth the extra price?

Below are my requirements:

- Your rig: Nexus 6p, desktop and laptop
- What type of usage: Mostly music, sometimes movie
- File format used in your source: MP3, spotify
- Genre of music you listen to: Varies, depending on mood.

They are using the same driver and cable, but the housing and tuning different. Overall 3s will have better details and transparency, lesser color, smoother and more natural.

For me it 3s worth the extra price but it's quite subjective lah tongue.gif
Maybe you can try and compare them side by side first. Just trust your ear smile.gif

QUOTE(ben3003 @ Dec 29 2016, 11:21 AM)
how are these compare to ath-im70? is it a side grade?
*
Normally ppl will compare IM70 with Series 3s, 5 and 5s. IM70 will have wider sound stage and sounds more V shape. TFZ wise has more lively imaging and more solid and punchy sound, more focus on mids and bass, treble is there but overall quite smooth.

Balance 2 and 2m should be something higher range smile.gif

TFZ told us Exclusive King will be available for sale in China around next week. Should reach Malaysia 1-2 weeks later smile.gif

This new series will sound more neutral and accurate compare with Series 1 3 5 smile.gif
Exclusive 1 3 5 are using detachable cable. The entry leve Exclusive Nano will use fixed cable.

currently using shure se 215, so which tfz series is better upgrade for me?

im listening to accoustic album, so vocal and instrument sound is very important for me. bass must be there but no need too big, as long sound stage is not dark.

thanks.

How is the bass in the Series 1S?

I'd like an affordable, long lasting IEM with heavy bass to compensate for the reduced bass of my laptop (which I EQ'd down myself). The cable of the 1S seems sturdy, and I like the overall look.

Series 1 that uses copper cable will have more bass. Btw both or them consider warm sounding IEM, just 1s a bit more brighter.

I'm slightly worried about the cable and jack quality. Read a review where it frayed in a month, but abrasive pockets and humidity could cause premature fraying.
Since I don't actually bring my stuff out and about now, I suppose they should last long.

EDIT: Damn now I'm torn between the Pai Audio DR1 and the TFZ Series 1. My good judgement says go for the one with the replaceable cable, but the specs of the Series 1 is so good for the price as well.

What are those? If they have the same tuning as the series 1, and that the removable cables can be easily sourced, I'd probably join this group buy.

The new Exclusive 1 3 5 and King will use detachable cable (2 pin 0.78mm)

Latest info update:

1. Exclusive 1 3 5 and King are using detachable cable. Photo of King above is just a prototype with fixed cable.

2. Regarding the material of housing, Ex1 is full plastic, Ex3 and King is metal face plate, Ex5 is full metal.

3. Stock cable of Exclusive series is silver plated copper. The quality will be much better than Series 1 3 5 since the quantity of inner cores is 2 times thicker. TFZ will release upgraded cable in the future too.

Looking at the price gap, it shouldn't be.
I personally am looking for something at budget prices that is bass heavy but rather refined. My laptop doesn't handle bass well so I EQ it down and use my hardware (cMoyBB amp, or the IEM itself) to make up for it. Series 1 fits that description. Though now I'm eyeing on Exclusive 1, but saving up extra. Ramadhan is coming, so I should have enough extra cash by the end of the month. tongue.gif

The SE215 as far as I know, is still the king in that price bracket. Not only in terms of sound, but the whole package. The Series 1 is competing in a much lower price bracket, and judging from the published and independent measurements of both, also tuned differently. It's flatter from the mids down, while the SE215 has a pronounced bass lift starting from 1kHz. I would buy the SE215 again if I have the money, but I would settle for 'flat' bass response with my current budget, which not many does well at this price point. The Series 1 should have considerably more bass than my Grado SR60i though (it's faint at 30Hz and below).

not much sound improvement if any but i do notice slightly better highs n vocal.. but might be my brain olaying tricks lol.. i dunno.. bass still very OP but overall warm n nice..

Different tuning. Series 1 3 5 are more to warm side. Sub bass heavier.
Exclusive and King are more neutral, cleaner and has better details.
Now they have also released the Series 4 (warm sound version King), My Love 2 (simplified version of S4) and My Love Ltd portable headphone.

Series 1 has more "fun" tuning. It has more sub bass and stronger impact.
Exclusive 1 more neutral and natural. Sound stage, details and separation is nicer.

if comparing to Apple Earpods, which one is more closer to it?

I prefer the tuning close to Apple's Earpods

star picker is doing promo on TFZ Series 2 for RM179 as opposed to normal price of RM219 (i think)...

is this good enough if i wanna spend <RM200 on IEM?

currently using Sony's XB50AP.

XB50ap is extra bass IEM, I believe that Series 2 will have better clarity and details, but the quantity of bass won't be as much as Sony. smile.gif

The King of TFZ has landed 4 months ago, and changed the game of budget IEMs. However, TFZ is not content with the title of “King of details within RM500”, and keeps discovering more potential of its “12mm dual magnetic circuit nano-grade Graphene dynamic driver”.

Besides the warm sounding “Series 4”, and the mid range “My Love II”, now we have another new addition to the King’s family. His name is “Series 2”, an entry-level IEM with King’s Graphene driver.

Series 2 comes with 9 colors. You can choose any style that suits you well. You can even see through the structure of driver via those transparent housing!

Series 2 and King are both using the SAME Graphene driver, SAME 4-wires braided silver plated cable, SAME 0.78mm detachable design....but the price of it is much cheaper!

So what’s the different?
King is using metal faceplate, and Series 2 is plastic.
Tonality wise, King has better details, transparency, separation and sound stage, which is more suitable for pro-audio monitoring. Series 2 sounds warmer, smoother and more relax.

----------
【What’s GRAPHENE ?】

△ It is the thinnest and hardest nano material. It conducts heat and electricity efficiently and is nearly transparent.
△ Probably the strongest known material. It is about 200 times stronger than the strongest steel.
△ Thickness of the Graphene diaphragm is only 30 nanometre. Ultra thin, high tenacity, low distortion...can represent the live sound perfectly.
△ Scientists who discovered Graphene won the Nobel Prize in Physics in year 2010.

TFZ Exclusive King: Crown of the masses

After months owning it and listen to it during weekday commuting (around an hour a day), I guess the basic characteristics of Exclusive King (here onwards as "King") has settled down, and my mind should be less excited by new toy syndrome for me to discuss on this IEM.

A little background:
King is one-of-its-kind flagship from TFZ. I've tried, to a varying degree, almost all of the TFZ IEMs (and owned the Balance 2), hence I am not unfamiliar with the TFZ house signature. The "Balance" and "Series" series are more tuned for general listening, with lifted bass response and tamed treble. However, the Exclusive series employs a different material for its sound driver and also tunes for a new horizon: Monitoring.

The King's symphony:
The Exclusive series statement product is the King. So, what does it sound like? Before jumping into the sound, noted that I am using it with spinfits and listening from my smartphone (Huawei). It is very efficient that I only manage to push the volume slider to 30-40% before the loudness deafens my eardrums. My music preference is mostly female vocals (English and Chinese oldies) and also a few mixes of Jpop (Takako Matsu, Aoi Eir, Angela Aki) and rock (Bon Jovi etc.)

Bass: Departed from the signature thundering bass, King is very tame in comparison. The bass is still considerably ample when compared especially to most conventional BA IEM. Well textured even with lower volume, and like a fast moving dynamic IEM, the bass doesn't linger for long. To some, this may lack the romantic-esque taste. However, this is ideal for monitoring purpose.

Mids: On my setup, the vocals do not sound: thin, harsh, distant, sibilant, thick, laid back. Staying true to monitoring, it is what it is, rendered close as possible to the source without adding or subtracting anything noticeable.

Treble: Perhaps Spinfits did the job or my music source warms it up, I am not bothered by any harshness. Maybe my hearing does not extend far up the higher frequency, so it's a blessing for me. I used to be very annoyed by the way many dynamic IEM sings the hi hat. It's either "zzzzle", like a bad splash of metals or "zz..", as if the treble is muffled. Here I can listen to every "sizzling" very clearly, and I appreciate it.

Staging:
Well, honestly it's not really wide. Like any IEM should have, I guess. Positioning wise, it's quite horizontal, does not extends very deep. I still remember wanting a very holographic soundstage, hoping that the music would be "seen" like an orchestra. Over time, I accept the fact that IEM is just too small to present such cues. Well, better just attend an actual orchestra for that purpose. The King does well without being narrow, congested or all over the place, which is like a monitoring IEM (Okay, how many times have I repeated this word?)

Afterwords:
I got myself a OCC cable because I really want a solid heatshrink to hook the IEM on my ears. The original cable is too thin and doesn't stay stationary when I'm moving due to my ear's shape. Does the sound change? I can't confidently assure you.

I'm looking forward to getting an upgrade for the King. The Series 4 (Exclusive) is a sidegrade to spice up the bass and darkens the treble, which I do not enjoy as much as I am spoiled by King's signature.

Experience King yourself. My experience tells me that I've realized a monitoring signature can be very alluring without coloring any specific frequency region. The best part is that it's versatile because of its lack of emphasis.

Keywords:
Resolution, Transparency, Monitoring, Balanced, Slightly lifted bass, Fast

Series 1 has more "fun" tuning. It has more sub bass and stronger impact.
Exclusive 1 more neutral and natural. Sound stage, details and separation is nicer.

How about Exclusive 1 vs pai dr1? icon_question.gif

I personally more prefer EX1. Overall smoother and more natural.
Series 2 is same price as Exclusive 1, but it is using 12mm dual graphene drivers (EX1 is 9mm). EX1 sounds warmer and more solid while Series 2 is more neutral and has wider sound stage.

Below is my comparison and introduction of different TFZ family:

What kind of sound are you looking for? What is your budget range? Sound is a personal preference so I can't point at one and tell you that is the best.

just noticed this TFZ thread... rclxms.gif

Looking for headphone/iem around 350-450.. prefer bassy and good clarity on voice..

Currently looking at the models below:
- Fiio FH1
- Sennheiser HD461
- Sennheiser HD 4.20s
- TFZ Exclusive 5

prefer hd461 but worry about the comfort after 1-2 hours of listening because i am wearing spec..that why I might go for in-ear now..

Previously using Koss Portapro so wanna get something similar...

anyone here owned more than one headphone/iem above?

proud owner of TFZ King reporting in! just bought it from Starpicker rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

the demo unit and my own unit sounded different.. i guess i need to burn in for some time first..

ohya.. just tested the Shure SE215 vs TFZ King.. to me, King is the clear winner..

tested using my Huawei Mate 9 with some FLAC songs..

Owner of TFZ Exclusive 5 here, also bought from Stars Picker. I still believe it needs an amp. Cheap amp also ok as long as got an amp to power it. No amp, the bass no punch. I need 100% volume on my Xiaomi Mi5 to power it yet still a wee bit lacking for me. Even Samsung S7 Edge need 100% volume for me on youtube videos. Consider a little power hungry for an IEM because I need to use the exact same volume for my headphones on my amp. For that kind of price, the bundled cable is amazing. No complain. Detail and bass is impressive . But I would have prefer a lighter weight version if possible without sacrificing the sound signature. This thing is too heavy for an IEM. If I drop it from 1 floor higher onto someone's head, I confirm the victim get a badly swollen head. biggrin.gif
