Can you elaborate on the glorified iPod? Why don't Apple named it as iPod-aPhone? It is a phone, and it's music player is iPod. That's it. They are not gonna use any crappy music player like Nokia and Sony Ericsson do, they'll use back their own creativity and product and upgrade it to even much better than all. You see, Cover Flow feature on iPod in iPhone. The biggest achieve that iPod in iPhone have is touchscreen, so touch your music.

Added on June 8, 2007, 1:35 amOne more thing, the screen is bigger too for you to watch videos on it.

yea.. its a glorified ipod more than a phone..
it has the most basic phone features...
quad-gsm, edge... thats it
no removable battery.. no expandable memory slot...

to me, and i'm sorry iphone fans, its a ipod to rival that creative zen media player or whatever they call it except that its also a phone.

i can't believe i'm saying this eventhough i'm one of those crazy ones that want one iphone....

i mean u said it yourself,
1. they dun use a crappy player like nokia and SE
2. cover flow feature
3. bigger screen for videos
4. touch screen to touch music

i'm sorry if i'm turning your words but i'm not.. you did type it yourself... and these features, do not make it a phone... its an ipod, with phone features...

and i still want one......

What I mean is something new.

Added on June 8, 2007, 1:46 amDo you own an iPod btw? If you do, you'll understand why the battery's are not so easily removable. It's because it's embedded together with the hardware, so no mess around the edges and sides to make it look beautiful/cleaner and sleeker. Most MP3 players out the in the market does not have expandable slot, all are fixed. From 1GB-80GB. You name it. That's how flash player works.

lol.. i know what u mean...
but seriously, when u do look at it from a consumer standpoint for it to be a mobile phone, it really isn't much of a mobile phone compared to what nokia or SE has accomplished...

but if u look at it as a media player, ITS GREAT !!!!

but when u weight the features of the iphone, between multimedia and being a mobile phone, the weightage goes more to it being a multimedia device... more to it being a glorified ipod..

and not to say it can do stuff a windows mobile PDA phone can do. Those are basically a mobile desktop. the Iphone, really doesn't have much going for it other than its enchanced ipod experience and doubling as a phone, plus the damn coool design and interface. Which is enough to drag buyers in.... including me...

and since its US, the most exposed phone to them is motorola... that is their benchmark of phones which explains the iphone... in US, it makes perfect sense.. but elsewhere, it really doesn't because we have such a huge market with phone capable of doing much more PHONE related stuff.

u guys can flame me but this is seriously my two cents on the iphone...
given that i have the money, i would buy it. i really would.. but if i had the money to choose only an iphone or a pda phone, i think i would be better off with a pda phone

Added on June 8, 2007, 1:51 amyea i have an ipod.. i know how its like....
lol....
and once again, u said it, they design the iphone based on the knowledge they have on the ipod.. sleek edges, compact design...

people say its either love or hate..
i love and hate the iphone at the same time...

I am quite agree with you actually.
But then, phone is just to make calls what. What makes a phone interesting is the multimedia features.
You see, what are people seeking for when buying phones? The multimedia features!
MP3, movie playback, camera, etc. Very few who would use GPRS to surf.
Nowadays, a phone is no longer just a phone.
All phones selling currently are having these multimedia features and i dont see why shouldn't.
Being the iPhone running with OS X is a plus, just almost going to like smart phone.
So, what would actually "PHONE" related stuffs are ?

goooood one..
lol...
quite speechless already...
phone related stuff, removable battery, expandable memory.. all these are very much liked... freedom to use the expandable memory not only in your phone but other devices..

also, like the iphone, everything has to be done through your computer... which if u are on holiday, and wiht no laptop, can be quite a pain..

but u see, it goes back to my main point... its just a glorified ipod.. the multimedia features, are ipod features...

its the same like a pda phone.. its basically a normal pda, an organizer, but with added phone features...

basically, yea its an ipod with phone functionality in the same way a PDA phone is a PDA wiht phone functionality...

the thing that annoys me is that the features are lagging behind phones produced outside of US like 3g and a front camera.

i guess the only phone related stuff should be the battery tongue.gif since memory could be said multimedia features also tongue.gif tongue.gif

yes, but i think we should make further comments on iPhone after some users get their hand on it at the US.

There is rumors where iPhone might be 3G when reaching here which is 2008 sweat.gif
who knows ?

problem is, does Jobs realise that his product will be sold at places that aren't America ? where we have 3G and they don't ? where we have much more phones that can do much more ?

if he does, then there is hope for the 2nd Gen iphone...
pray he does make it happen....
still, they didn't mention when in 2008

if he didn't realise that the product wont be sold at places outside America, we would be getting at June 29th I guess. I see no point of delaying.
Unless, they want the US to be the white rats brows.gif brows.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

sadly, nothing about when in 2008 cry.gif

LOL, we should burn Apple for the backward-thinking they are. It uses lolGSM, no gps, bigger than my iron and the saddest thing of all is the touch screen. OMG, we had so many phone that are touch sensitive now, I wanna puke. Just look at Prada phone, exactly the same thing. Its all hype people, open your eyes.

And, as soon as it was presented to the media, they promised the gen2? That show them how stupid their "innovation" is. They had to do it, if not people not going to buy the 1st gen.

Zzz

I just came back from US. 29th only coming out over there.

$499 for 4GB $599 for 8GB

bedok >> If you hate iPhone so much, just go away. Go to some stupid Nokia or something.

The only thing you could argue is about 1st GEn thing. Yes prolly it'll , just like the 1st Gen iPod. The clicked sucked so bad for ppl who had 10,000++ songs.

But the thing is, since is based on an OS. Prolly we can update it, instead of relying on newer hardware.

From what I read, the EDGE chip used is physically a lot smaller than the 3G chip available today, hence they decided to use EDGE for the 1st gen. 3G rollout is far from complete in the US which is most likely the biggest market for this phone. If you listened to Job's keynote however, he mentioned 3G from the start so it'll probably come when the iPhone is rolled out in Europe and Asia where 3G is more pervasive.

There are other design cues that show how American this phone is. The two handed input (think Blackberry rather than kids typing one handed) and visual voice mail (American adults love voice mail, everyone else uses SMS) are unusual outside of the US.

Personally I think many people in Europe and Asia are jealous that Americans will for once get the latest & greatest mobile phone technology after outpacing the yanks for decades... biggrin.gif

methinks there aren't gonna be a 3G version. Probably just jump from EDGE to WiMax.

And, is there even a lubang for you to put ur sim carD? Malaysian users don't get your hopes up yet, since its exclusive to AT&T in the US, they might have a built in SIM or something.

For those who thinks there are already existing products that trumps this, we'll have to wait and see how smooth the OS flows. Personally i am more interested in the web browsing WIFI capability.

Yes, there is gonna be SIM card slot inside the back cover along with the battery, so no easy operation. Probably they'll give telcos on how to do it.
