Normal comprehensive policy don't cover flood or act of god

Only SP Peril added covers which is only 0.5% sum insured of your motorcar value

any idea? How much coverage...toyoi sgshuhu

basic insurance coverage does not include flood/landslide.

you need to pay additional premium, it is 5% extra on top of your normal insurance premium.

say you normal insurance is rm2000, so need to pay another rm100 for additional flood coverage.

so total for isnurance will be rm2,100.00

iinm it's running at full capacity already.

i pass it just now and they closed the tunnel (cars can't use it).

but i recall that smart tunnel only solve 30% of the flood problem, and mostly help with the cheras/gombak/ampang side only (aka east of KL).

PJ/bangsar/pantai dalam etc. (aka places flooded right now) is on south west side...

If you watch the documentary of SMART tunnel, it only target KL city centre area.... like KLCC, Petaling Street, Bukit Bintang and near Sungai Besi area... other area SMART tunnel don't cover one. Unless they build another anti flood mega project.

Flood prone areas are well known especially where there are slopes and bad drainage at bottom

Eg pantai hospital area, lucky garden area, ss2 ldp interchange, subang bestari, klcc/pavilion area open air carparks, list goes on etc

Flood prone areas are most likely man made.

Developed areas normally have covered areas whether by concrete, bitumen, etc. This means that the rainfall infiltration into the ground is prevented, therefore the amount of water finding its way to its natural path is much increased.
If the planners have not allowed for these increases, the results will be flood due to this build up of increased runoff.

Thats the reason why you need to maintain green lungs. One of the reasons is to act as a runoff collection.

But human greed knows no bounds. How many large green lungs do you see in KL? ZERO
And the small ones are disappearing fast, to greedy developers and Councillors who approve this crap.

Actually rubbish is not the real issue as far as river flows are concerned.

It's the siltation from the deforestation which is the major problem. Millions of tons of silt flow from the uncovered forests into the river, raising up the beds of rivers.

Guess what? Carrying capacities of the rivers are reduced drastically and during rainfalls, they easily burst the banks and cause floods.

Another case of GREED

All great cities have a major green lung.

New York with Central park. London with Hyde park. Even little Singapore has maintained its parks within the city

Is KL a great city?

i think the mass developments at pantai hillpark caused all the sediments to flow down during rain and clog the drains at the UM gate which result in yesterday's flash flood

You need a lowland green lung as well. Not hills to be catchment areas. The KLCC park is very small. Thats a dot in KL city.

The bukit nanas forest reserve is smaller than KLCC park! KLCC park is 50 acres.

Central park is 843 acres

Number of parks in NYC

New York City has more than 1,700 parks, playgrounds, and recreation facilities across the five boroughs. Parks properties range from swimming pools to wetlands and from woodlands to skating rinks. You can visit our Park List page to find a partial list of our parks.

However, they have huge sewer systems to act as drainage conduits. Do we plan like them?

Bottomline: We have NO good planning, just GREED

Look at NYC in 1930s

Why need big roads when there was only few cars?

Because they were smart to predict the future that cars will crowd the roads.

Unlike Malaysia, 1st, build 1 way road. then expand to 2 way lane, then upgrade, jem, upgrade, jem. Endless upgrade and jams.

NYC, One time build big roads.

fire/flood/etc all need to top up.

even if insurance cover, it will just pay for the repair cost, the car still cannot be fully repaired, things like engine open up clean, but car wiring, unless they replace all the electronics from wiring, fuse box, alternators, switches, it will have problems sooner or later.

and all those pumps etc all have some sort of electronics inside, so either you replace everything with electronics that has submerge under water, or they will show problem sooner or later.

also cleaning the carpets, cushions will still leave smell, and Rust will surely happen unless you removed all the carpets & dry/replace them.

in the end might cost alot more to fix compared to other physical damages.

They build big roads not for car, but for War Pupose so Tanks & other heavy military trucks can drive on those roads.

Also NYC still traffic jam like hell everyday, what used to be 2 way roads you showed, are you converted into 1 way. but still jam.

another thing is unless it's new car, insurance won't simply let you buy flood coverage, they will want to at least have a look at the car, or even inspect it for any water damage.

Malaysia do not understand infrastructure developement. All very knee jerk planning.

NY has build storm sewers to contain their storm water management. London and Paris have the same. Therefore you don't see the ugly open drainage everywhere. Some of these systems are build with bricks! Still in use today!

In Msia, they build buildings and then try to build the infrastructures! bangwall.gif

anyway, what i can find so far is

NYC area = 790km2 and green area = 113km2

about 1:7 ratio

KL area is 243km2 so by right we should have 34km2 worth of green area in KL to be even. Unfortunately I cant find any info on that, but this should include Bukit Tunku area, the whole Penchala Dalam, UM area and Bukit Setapak so we should be equally green if not more.

BTW green areas means Reverves which are never going to be developed.

From DBKL website

user posted image

Doesn't give any green reserves area. Is that a surprise?

However, the open space, recreational may be it. 6.5 % only whereas NYC would be 14.3 %. More than double of KL

Yeah

If you have a choice, a saloon is always more comfy.

However, the luxurious 4WD nowadays are pretty comfy as well.
