Nope.. Both Exodus and Specto work on V17.3... Using auto-play pulls 1080p sources to play & automatically fetches subs as well. Check you have the right versions.

Just tested SALTS and able to fetch 1080p + 5.1 surround sound while using Auto-play.... Running V2.0.196 and it can be gotten/updated from the Exodus repo. Install the latest repo and let the addon update if yours is still on the older version.

Just to share a pretty good video source to add into your Kodi video file.

Go to Video>files>add video> click add video source "http://dl2.downloado.site/dl2/Movie/" you can name whatever name you like. Set it to Movies section and scan the movies list. It will load into your movies library.

I don't watch english series. So is okay for me but I'm using another few more standalone apps, It has dramas & movies in Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Cantonese, English & 4K content. The problem are not all TV box can installed them. The apps are very choosy.

btw! icdrama jump to another two on updates. Is plugin.video.icdrama-1.2.6.5.zip today. LOL 
That's auto start up scan feature in Kodi but I wouldn't advice you to use the feature because the album has duplicate vid (720p/1080p), so the best is to choose the movies you like to insert into your library. Select the movies you like to add and click menu to add into your library.

Note: click "parent directory" and it will bring you to the main folder and there's hidden 4K movie, 1080p movies/TV show folders. Check out each of the link I posted.

you can find all the movie in exodus, elysium etc which has better quality and easy to find.. no point adding them on the library, unless you want it to look cool 

Clearly, you didn't read my earlier posts.. Please do.. It's all publicly available info. You do NOT have to add the source to your library. It's still accessible.

Depending on your current settings, Kodi does a "quick" library scan and update at each startup/launch. If enabled (Media settings.. "Update library on startup"), This is done automatically if you don't want it done for contents from a particular source, while adding/editing, you can exclude the that selected path from future library scans.

Exclude source from future library scans.
Save.. Decline library update.

Doing the above, yes you'll get text only.. But then you can browse within the source and add individual titles to the library. Only those manually added, will show up in your library with posters, plot, etc.. This is better than having Kodi scrape and store information on every single title in the source.
