I want to ask about the Kodi which resides in android tv boxes, are they special built or they are just "normal" ones ?

The reason I am asking about this is that I have a MXQ pro+ which comes with Kodi 17.3 ( armeabiv7 ). I tried to "dirty" flash over using a Kodi 17.4 but it attempted to install but failed. So I figure that I might have to backup, uninstall and install new version and then restore the configuration from the backup.

But before I do that, I want to make sure these builds of Kodi on these devices, are there anything special ? I don't want to be landed in a case where I ended up with unable to install Kodi 17.4 or installed a limping version after I uninstalled the older version.

Care to give some guess reasons why an application like Kodi needs to be customized ? What is it they have done to the app ?

Already tried and confirmed that only 32bit apps can be installed but for this Kodi, it can't be installed over via google play or package installer.

I could use a more forceful method to install ( such as uninstall first ) but I am afraid of losing features which the firmware developer has incorporated inside the customized Kodi.

I have confirmed the apk which comes with the firmware vs the one downloaded from official website, they are signed by different entities.

jarsigner -verify -verbose kodi_xxx.apk.

No you don't need to create folders/sub folders to install the repo... What exactly are you trying to install again? As all's okay on my end.
I see.. Well, I was able to add the url into file manager, install the repo, access the "video addons" section within the repo and install the Android Republica addon. Tested and the addon works as intended. All was done in one smooth motion, no issues whatsoever..

Androidrepublica zip works, like voncrane found as well.
Either his kodi settings or box problem.

But... ... quite amusing...

Some channels show "this account suspended due to abuse..."
Some have wrong aspect ratio.
All in SD.

yesterday Android republica for English channel also cannot stream. I just afraid it just happened in Malaysia. It is possible our ISP block Kodi in future?

Movie and sports broadcasters, owners dig into the data, send lawyers to haul up the responsible providers to court.

Several cases already in usa and europe.

Things are fluid, play hide n seek, addons come n go... but will not stop.

As users, use what u can find... kodi or any other app.
