I use live PVR with almost 300 channels + full EPG that loads from a backend upon startup.. No issues. So unlikely.

Nothing new.. Especially the botnet part... Most folks have no idea what installing a third party repo can do to their network and or devices..

I think you mean the Quasar addon, as the daemon does autostart each time Kodi is restarted. You can have working addon shortcuts on the main menu. If they keep being deleted after box turn off, then either it's an issue with the skin or your Kodi installation is somewhat corrupted and is not saving changes properly.. I recommend switching skins first to one like Amber.. If shortcuts still don't work properly, then time to nuke and re-setup your Kodi installation.. Do NOT backup and restore for obvious reasons.

Oh! I have experience PVR crash due to bad m3u before, During PVR client search and EPG guide update it closed my Kodi. tested many times than after I force stop and cleared my Kodi data from system setting. Kodi restart normally but all the setting and addons gone. Luckily I always backup my setting whenever I install any addons. One click to restore.

if u are not "ransomed" by the need for dd/dts, just go 17.1.

the longer u wait, the more trouble u will have with 17.2, 18.0, etc.

best to do backup first (diff people do it in diff ways... i keep copy of org.kodi.xbmc).

u may find a couple of things not working when u update like that.

in my experience, u will need to deal with the maint, advancedsettings.xml and other addons from tvaddons.ag... if u had them.

Yes, you can update via the Play Store and won't lose your addons or their settings.. That's how I went about mine. Of course, you have to backup your current Jarvis installation + apk, in case you have to revert. I'm able to get DD passthrough on Krypton and the audio - video sync I suffered with 17.0 is nonexistent on 17.1. Knocks on wood.

Note: If after the upgrade, Kodi refuses to launch and simply crashes all the time. You may want to delete the guisettings.xml, advancedsettings.xml (I had to do this for my installation...also deleted a conflicting addonsdb file.. Forgotten the exact file name) and confirm that the addons (especially skins) from Jarvis are confirmed compatible with Krypton. Otherwise, you'd have to go manually delete the offending addon or files, etc. You should only do this if you have intimate knowledge of your system and Kodi installation. Else, backup Jarvis.. Uninstall, install Krypton as new and setup from scratch. Might be easier than going through a troubleshooting process like I did.

Well, that may be the issue right there.. I always manually install and configure every single addon owned, Kodi settings and custom files (advancedsettings & keymapping). Don't do builds, auto-config scripts, etc. This way, I know exactly what is being done, how and it's immediate effect on my Kodi installation.. A quick backup before and after ensures that I always have the latest backup to fall back on before any disaster strikes.
