100mbps + new router...

if u really want good stuff, get ready to replace other equipment too - new device, new 4kTV, new AVR!

no end to spending money. biggrin.gif

Haha. I wish I could. Don't have enough money for the 4k TV hence I only have Kodi on my laptop. I've been considering getting an Android TV box but I find it quite worthless(perhaps someone would prove me wrong).

it's good that u start kodi on laptop/pc.

good learning, no extra cost.

but when u get into the bigger and more varied usage, a laptop is not the most efficient or convenient.

a good box can do a lot more than just kodi and which cannot be done on a laptop.

that is assuming u will watch videos on a tv rather than on a mobile device.

there is wear and tear for any storage.

i have never used sdcard (don't have one, need to buy, add cost).

been using internal memory for years - no special problems.

just changed to using hdd (slotted in box) for big video files.

No matter the amount of requests, It'll be denied. Remember Kodi is simply a shell and the Kodi devs do not care (and rightly so) for addons such as Exodus. For years, they've been dealing with compatibility issues...devices with shoddy firmware or hardware... Patch here, patch there.. Now, there's a standard and manufacturers have to follow it or be swept aside. So instead of complaining to the Kodi devs, complain to your device' manufacturer for a firmware update with the proper standards included. For majority of the older or cheap boxes out there, such a firmware update will not be provided..

I amended my previous post.. smile.gif The Minix Neo X8-H Plus was released back in 2014. Back then, it was one of the most powerful devices of its kind. Since then, there's been the Minix Neo U1 and recently the Minix Neo U9-H.. Welcome to the fast-paced tech world..

That depends on your idea of cheap.. I can confirm that even some "gaming" grade laptops have issues playing certain media files or those with high bitrates. Not to talk of sound and resolution issues... Sound issues may not be much of a hassle if you only deal with stereo..

Probably better off with an HTPC.. But the really good ones can be quite expensive. Costs about the same as the Nvidia Shield TV 2 or even more. So might as well, get the beasty Shield TV.. brows.gif Guaranteed compatibility & firmware updates straight from Nvidia.

I bought mine back in 2015 paying around RM500, very surprise to see the price still around that figure now.

But it's a good buy, a very robust box, just keep going on though I let it run 24hours 7 days non stop

Kodi 16 Jarvis is just fine, esp for those who need pass thru audio to avr which is absent in Krypton. For that reason I stick to Jarvis for my main tv, and Krypton for my other devices.

Same here... Was able to get DD pass-through working on the initial V17.0 release.. Haven't tried on the recent V17.1. Doing a fresh install, it's okay, but migrating previous addons and setup causes it to crash on my device and refuse to launch again after first try.. Tried using Ares Wizard and the official Kodi backup addons.. Same results.. Crash! So rolled back to Jarvis. Will revisit it when have sufficient time to set up from scratch just the way I like it.

Rooted TM media box with Kodi? You don't need to root it for Kodi...
