Hi Guys,

Need help if anybody tried Overclocking G3258

I have this cpu combined with MSI H81m-p32l with 8gb value 1600mhz memory running @ 1333mhz with Hyper TX2 Cooler Single Fan

I am unable to get stable after 4.3ghz sometimes even at 4.3ghz

Temps are not the concern nor the voltages. Board offers maximum 1.4v for cpu core.

Do i need to change the motherboard for better OC.

I'd appreciate if ya'll can share your experience. icon_question.gif

Many thanks
Cheers

Changing board just to attain better OC is a waste of money.

You're better off changing that processor to a Core i3.

I see where you are coming from but i wont be changing the processor as i am a sucker for overclocking. I just want to know others experience.

Secondly to overclock G3258 one doesn't need a fancy mobo. OC is quite good on budget motherboards like H81/B85. I hope people are willing to test this chip

P.S G3258 @ 4.5ghz is as good as i3 4130 stock

Nothing about fancy but rather the chipset affects your mileage with it.

H81 and B85 you're limited to BCLK overclocking.

Z97 board is where you get to unleash the full potential of it.

G3258 @ 4.5Ghz is only as goods as i3 4130 only for single-threaded performance.

When you judge the processor overall the G3258 is far from the Core i3.

Put into factor that in order to reach 4.5Ghz you'll have to pump vcore and even stock cooler doesn't handle it that well, so you'll have to spend on aftermarket cooler.

In the end when you compare, i3-4130 is still faster (HT helps heaps) while runs cooler and draws less power.

Back to your question - yes, you have to change board to get better OC.

As mentioned H81 / B85 is limited.

Got it!

I believe it also depends on your luck as how good a chip you get. Some chips overclocks more/less than others.

I am getting Asrock Z97m Anniversary Edition which actually is specially made to compliment G3258.

Fingers crossed thumbup.gif

Yup, depends on luck and what you're running.

I got mine to 4.6Ghz I think but not totally stable.

It depends on what you want, some people run Prime95 for stability test but for me I just use games and whatever I do that is processor intensive, if it passes then it passes.
