Does we need to install another driver for laptop after upgrading to w10?
Or just enough with W10 preinstalled driver..?

it's better to install latest compatible drivers from manufacturers in general. however if the preinstalled drivers work nicely for you, you actually don't need to do that.

So far W10 preinstalled driver works nicely for me ...except Nvidia display driver that i installed sometimes got error "your display driver has encountered a problem and successfuly recovered"

The gpu error can be caused by various sources. Normally you can use the stock w10 driver from laptop manufacturer to resolve this, unlesss it's hardware issue.

Use ddu to clean up first in safe mode then reinstall gpu driver.

I don't have the stock w10 driver from laptop manufacturer..,the only NVIDIA display driver i used now is also what i got from laptop manufacturer site..but i got it when i download it when using w7...means.,i need to find new one for w10 right?

check the manufacturer website for w10 driver. if they don't have it, then you can still use the drivers from gpu manufacturers (nvidia./amd). yes, the gpu manufacturers have the latest w10 drivers.

Checked at ACER site based on my laptop model..,no new driver...just the same as what i got before...

U need USB 3.0 and Bluetooth drivers. There are no native support under W10.

uh? what do you mean? usb3 and bluetooth drivers are provided natively afaik

And sux. Need to use third party. USB 3.0 also crap. Devices kept disconnecting. Also need third party. Native ones useless.

ok. a simple 'fix' to frequent disconnecting devices is to use a usb 2.0 hub between the device and your computer.

What a useless solution! Only proves USB 3.0 support is broken under W10. No problem under W7.

I'll stick to my Mac full time instead of part time. At least El Capitan has full native USB 3.0 support. Fast and stable. And works! MS and Nadella can bury themselves. As for my W10 machine, already downgraded back to W7. So much better.

Downloaded NVIDIA HD Audio driver & Realtek HD Audio driver for W10...which one is better for me to use on my laptop..,NVidia display driver already installed...

They drive different components: Realtek is for the onboard audio chip; while nvidia hd audio is for gpu. If you plugged in speakers into audio jacks you use Realtek.

lel what you talking about? Windows 7 didn't even have native USB3 support either. Can confirm you cannot install Windows 7 directly over USB3 ports without additional drivers...

Just asking... Your nvidia GPU is?? If you look up Device Manager does it say something like 3D controller or VGA controller?

W7 has vendor support for USB 3.0 and stable for months. W10 none. Devices will disconnect randomly. It is a known fault. Check the MS forums. No proper solution apart from system restore. Worthless OS.

hmm... ok but have you seen this 3D Video Controller when you start to install any display drivers or already uninstalled any display drivers?


ok so from what I know (maybe not true), that 3D video controller is your nvidia gpu (if that is correct) but why WIndows recognise that way instead of VGA compatible controller has its meanings...
that HDMI port of yours (if you have) is connected directly to one of your gpus, be it intel or nvidia...

if nvidia gpu is shown to be 3d video controller, chances are your hdmi port is used solely by intel gpu (i think newer laptop is like this) for output through hdmi cable (if you use)...
is this a good thing or bad thing? i dunno but its definitely good thing on Linux

ok anyway that hd audio driver is only used for gpus that controls the hdmi port to output sound, thats why intel also got its intel hd audio if you installed from intel display driver
also applies to nvidia
probably to cover all sorts configuration on desktop/laptop

so even if you installed the nvdia hd audio driver if your nvidia gpu is not the one controlling the hdmi port, i guess nothing will happen since the extra driver just sit there doing nothing...

so yeah background info for your hd audio display driver...

I moved to the Mac officially last March after 25 years with Windows. Fed up with W10. Will keep W7 running for as long as possible.

I use NVidia Display Driver only...

acbc Go blame the driver maker - Microsoft is no way responsible for this issue.

The problem is hardware and software developers are glacial to changes (i.e. seriously can't they dedicate some resources to make a decent Windows driver)?

Only large hardware makers (such as AMD and nVidia) are able to do that - so why can't those smaller developers can do that?

I'm looking at TP-Link, especially.

Hardware maker is Intel. Blame who again?

Anyway, I've moved out of Windows for life. Fed up. Too much troubleshoot and less work done. Thanks for Nadella for forcing me to change.

I know a lot of people don't bother doing a BIOS upgrade before upgrading


A bad BIOS = bad power management. I just don't know why people don't even do this

OS X is extremely trouble free because backwards compatibility do not exist in the Mac world. Of course they have a very closed ecosystem (i.e. they have control on everything including the firmware and the driver) and that's why they can work so well.
