Ok guys, over the past 2 days, I have been researching when exactly SIRIM certification needed because I bought some electronics from Amazon and was wondering what will happen at the customs.

There are a few threads on Lowyat here, but they all give confusing answers. Only one product I determined for sure needs the certification - smartphone. But for everything else, there is confusion.

Some people say Wifi tab no need, only 3G/LTE tablets need. But some claim otherwise.

Some say laptop no need, some say need.

Some say bluetooth enabled devices no need, some say need.

The worst thing is, I called SIRIM and they cannot give me an answers. And their website is freaking useless!!!

So, I would like to kindly ask people here, what devices confirm must have SIRIM?

Popular consumer electronic items:

Smartphone
Tablet
Camera
Laptop
Desktop PC (fully assembled)
Game console
Computer components (power supply unit, graphics card, motherboard etc)
Bluetooth/FM modulator
VR headset

PS: Of course, this depends if the customs officials bother checking your shipment, so for this purpose, let's assume customs check 100% of shipments

PSS: This thread is focusing on SIRIM certification, not on import duty and GST (since those things are very clear and info is easy to find)

For communication equipment . All equipments that release or receive frequencies need to be certified. This includes smartphone which have both wifi module and GSM module integrated in the device. Bluetooth equipment on other hand need to be certified as well as its release and receive frequencies .

I bought iPad from Apple Store in 2014.

In the package I got notice from Apple with SIRIM sticker.

The package sent from China via DHL.

Don't know when this sticker was put to package.

Like i said in youre previous thread......

If youre importing goods from overseas you have to look for the Tariff code by using tariff finder which will provide you all the requirements needed.

Customs can make assumptions out of your goods, so the description must be very clear on the packaging or you need a brochure with you to bring along and convince them. You can get an official classification (penjenisan) by going to their office.

Final decision is by them.
