Just bought a used M600i in good condition for RM800 with 1GB M2.
The original firmware is so f***ed up that even main crashed. After updating, its a lot more faster. But is there a way to add chinese support? Mine is oversea (SG) set.

Compared to the initial firmware R3xxx(If I remember correctly), this latest firmware not only louder, ITS VERY LOUD!!! I was disappointed with the loudness when I first got it. But as soon as I managed to get my pc to detect the phone, I did an update via SEUS and voila, it sound damn loud now. I had to lower the volume 2 steps from MAX for ringtone and almost half for SMS. Speedwise, I think a bit laggy. Dunno issit becos I put the chinese GDR font inside the memory card.

Wow really? What phone are you using? I could probably use the extra loudness for the alarms lol.

Im using M600i FYI. Compared to the initial firmware, the newest R9F definately sounds louder, but loudest make it sounds not so good. Dont compare with music playback, cos somehow I feel ringtone is louder.

hi, i have a bit of problems with my M600i...dunno if any of u guys experience this or not..

i just changed to Maxis 3G(previously on digi)....the reception when 3G is attached is very poor....2 bars at most....but when a call is comming in or when i am dialing out, 3G will be detached and GPRS will be attached, and the reception is full....

The problem is, when i am receiving a call, the call will not be clear for a while(when it's still attached to 3G), then it will become clear (when 3G detached and GPRS attached)...

what's the problem??
*
This is not a phone problem. So no need worry.

This problem affect each n every handphone with EDGE and 3G. The reason is due to the switching between 3G/EDGE and GSM mode. The time when you usually encounter this problem is when you make calls while driving. Lets said like you drive from Kepong to Selayang. While in kepong, its covered by 3G just fine. But once you drive out of the 3G network range, the normal GSM mode is available and thus switching back to GSM actually terminate the current 3G connection b4 reconnecting to GSM network. Quite troublesome for those who live on the edge of 3G area.

To fix this, Goto Control Panel>Connection>Mobile Network.
Select More>3G GSM.
Then instead of the default 3G and GSM, select GSM only. Vioal, there's go your solution. But by doing so, disable the 3G, which is troublesome if you do use it to surf the internet from time to time. Otherwise there's nothing to worry about.

It's the same actually, the firmware doesn't do wonders to reduce the sluggishness. My friend has the Thorus set, it's no better than mine but I glad I've sold it because the price keeps on sliding, if I were to wait for P1i to be out, I'm sure a brand new P990i AP set might be cheaper than RM900 by then. That's worrying I must say. I have to be frank, SE didn't do a good job with P990i and my brother's W950i runs just fine, not by leaps and bounds but at least it is a lot stable and it doesn't hang and restart by itself, it's less sluggish.
*
True. New firmware does helps but I have to say, if you ever used a decent Pocket PC like Xda2 Mini or better, this is just too slow. I played with a friend's P910i in the past and it doesnt lag when going through the Menu. On one hand, Im sad with some of the short-coming of Xda2 Mini and on the others, I hate the sluggishness of my M600i. In the end, I choose to have the M600i becos the short-coming aint as serious as what I had with my Mini.

If PDA phone maker can make their phone sturdy enough, Symbian will perish into smokes. Im sad that Symbian kills Series90 cos IMO, the navigation/menu is way better than UIQ or even Pocket PC. If only they would make 7710 smaller n lighter.

Added on May 12, 2007, 12:04 amBTW, M600i hand writing renognition sucks!!! The best I ever used, Pocket PC. Second would be 7710 but 7710 rocks cos it had the best chinese hand writing recognition.

I have a M600i and P990i, I can tell you that it feels so much better to hold the P990i. The physique lets you feel that you're holding something powerful.

I rather hold a 7710 than a P990 honestly.

u cant avoid hang or auto restart for smartphone and PDA phone. but it can be solve if u know ya phone limit and how u handle it. i never encounter any auto restart for better performance for long time.

just remember to close all application after u used it. it work fine from here.
the problem u cant read chinese is because resource/fonts
*
Thats just my mistype... I have it as Resource/Fonts in my M2. It was working with R3A firmware lastime so I know it works. After upgrading the firmware, it doesnt work anymore. Used to work for file manager and sms but not now.

Of course, because not a lot of models are utilizing this OS.

Motorola A925, A1000, SE P800, P900, P910, P990.

So it gives a certain exclusivity to this OS, I like  biggrin.gif

Yeah, just like when Nokia releases 7710 and decided to discontinued it even b4 it launched. Judging from the price of P990i AP, it does feels like SE is doing the same as Nokia did. I think P990i is pretty much a goner.

Sadly, whether or not you will be able to download newest firmware really goes down with your phone CDA. If you are lucky enough to have a World Generic 1 or 2 CDA, you should be uptodate. Otherwise, its waiting game. However there is hope now for owners who dare to rise up to the challenge.

I managed to change my CDA from World Generic 2 to /8 (SG) which SEUS recognise as SG set therefore I got chinese language now. The bad is that the firmware is a bit outdated at R9E. Even so, I do feel R9E is faster than F9F somehow, even with transition effect locked at ON with R9E. You do miss the status bar loading and louder ringtone with R9F though.

I'm also having tons of application errors after upgrading the firmware on Generic Singapore. Firstly, not all applications I backup can be restored, thus I have to reinstall the programs. But when I reinstall them, it kept saying there are corrupted data.

Any ideas?
*
Yeah...
Just remove some folders in the memory stick like e.g. SYS, RESOURCE, SYSTEM
Then do a master reset...

After that should be fine...

P990 is really nice n cheap. Have the chance to bought it but instead bought a M600i cos main concern regarding stability. I guess many happy owners means now no such problems liao? Still like M600i though cos its small.

so u mean if i update firmware the CDA wont change?
so ur using a hongkong version with chinese eh? tongue.gif

name only gave the pc suite link...SEUS is still not included yet...
so far from wad i read, SEUS will only be available by sept 2007 for vista..

anyway any idea how to change the icon looks on UIQ3.0??
*
Actually there is a trick to change CDA using SEUS. I have successfully change my CDA from World Generic 2 to Singapore version for the chinese writing capability. If just flash normally, it wont change the CDA, only upgrades the firmware.

I changed my M600i from World Generic 2 to SG using the same guide lastime. Just like erni3 said, you actually need to update your phone 3 times whether you like it or not.

First time, you update to get the filenames of the files you need to replace.

2nd time, you forcefully update it and it will show 2 CDA code after you finished setting up the phone.

3rd time update will be the real update that will remove the additional CDA and update it with the real firmware that you always wanted.

IMO, I found that R9E is a bit slower cos you cant turn off transition with it. Only R9F got option to turn off transition. Other than that, its just same except R9F got slightly louder ringtone and media player. But if you really need chinese menu n handwriting, its worth a change. If Im not mistaken, P990i SG firmware is more up-to-date than M600i.

BTW, I flashed with simcard in it but nothing happens. But I saw in other forum where I got the guide, some ppl with locked phone didnt work cos after flashing it kept asking them for lock code.

Like I told, better get a M600i and you dont have to face all these headache. I too like P990i but I resist the temptation and went for M600i. I tried my friend M600i b4 buying one. No hang or whatsoever. Even few simple programs like messaging, phone and office will prompt it to close something but no crashes. For P990i it must be worse cos it was stuffed with too many preloaded programs etc.
