in case you people dont know.... FENDER USA CO has revoked Bentley's Distributorship for all Fender guitars....and given it to Swee Lee. Now Bentley has to buy from Swee Lee all fender guitars! Hahaha, padan muka Bentley for inflating the price of Fender guitars for more than 2 decades!!

before you kinda rejoice, Swee Lee is also not cheap

the AVRI is at 10k, something that bents even in its heydays never did, and bents even had a period where they discounted the AVRI to about 7-8k

The American Standard is hitting 6k

this is excluding the fact that for Swee Lee they never barge on prices, but with bents a simple random question will suffice and they will knock 10% off

but at current exchange rate + added on fees...an american standard IS rm6k.

they are selling it at 1669 sgd in sg la, you forgot i show u liao, unless their website and list in shop price diff la

the standard tele in SG its going for 1,878 sgd, here its 5.9k, you convert x3 also 5.6k both also after tax. diff in the 300 bucks to run there la

the AVRI also 3.2k sgd je, savings even more leh, few hundred

what is strange is the FCS range didnt go up, like the 16k FCS relic is pretty much what it is

this is summore excluding that bents normally would give 10% off if big items like AVRI

ya but the point is that sweelee prices somewhat follow US prices after factoring in shipping + GST.

bentley AVRI is what yr? maybe at older exchange rate? so they can afford to give 10% off...and still make 20% over the pre-rm2.6b price.

but they dont take stuff from US ma, like we saw that day the 2014 gibson, that one is SG left over stock. Moreover since SG cheaper still run there and buy better

while that time exchange was lower, swee lee also increased prices so the nett effect would still be the same.

1848 is after tax and shipping la, nett price

Products out of a country is not taxed with local gst or vat, so it should be sgd1848 - sg vat of 6% - 7 % + gst 6%.

That's assuming they ship it in via sg la,

i thought sg vat always applies, unlike Europe.
u only get vat refund if u fly in and stay for min 48hrs.

directly from sweelee site - Tax Refund is not available for online purchases.
also - An additional $20 processing fee is applicable for incoming fund from outside of Singapore;

so in the end, same only.

if u fly in to buy, just to get vat refund...abit pointless unless u buying like a rm20k guitar.

no la you are confusing it with hand carry

When an item is exported it is not charged any VAT or GST, thus far i dont know any country who practices this other wise. the vendor (supplier) charges you the retail price BEFORE tax.

so teh actual price if you buy from swee lee sg by IRB laws is SGD 1848 - 7% , which comes up to SGD 1719. this is the nett price us malaysians should be receiving, at JB customs

AT JB customs this is then charged another 6% which translates to sgd1822, hence our nett actual price is 5466, not 6k. granted if we give 1 guitar a shipping cost of 200 bucks (a bit on the high side) it also wont reach 6k.

this is the same everywhere around the world, HOWEVER the vendor may choose to not provide this "discount" to its clients, and instead charge 6% on top of the existing MSRP after tax. which is what Swee Lee is doing and is shown in their website (no refunds on tax).

this practice seems rather common in Malaysian shops, I've seen TGS do it and I'm very much against it because its unfair and misleading to the consumers; cause they claim "GST" as an argument to support it, which is largely false.

the difference with hand carry is that it is a B2C transaction, hence the sale is made IN singapore and hence the rules and regulations change. likewise normally with hand carry, the option becomes limited because you would only be buying it once, and trying to reclaim in airports becomes a rather daunting task unless you buy a 20k guitar.

its part reason why guitar or shit is soo expensive in msia, these guys get away with 6% + 6% when it shouldnt happen at all, they pocket the 6% extra.

they just pocket the tax, its not paid to the IRB

i wont buy from anyone once i know they do this, cause all i need is to find another distributor overseas, talk to them about it and get confirmation of tax exempt POP 6% discount liao.

which again goes back to that there is very little difference in buying from sweelee in sg or here.
and not sure what fender distributor is gonna sell to here... knowing fender they will force the distro to block the sale and ask u to buy from sweelee.

Swee Lee did it also la, back then when Greg was running that shop in Upper Bukit Timah, he did the exact same thing hence people ordered from him at a cheaper rate.

Its the cheap squires that dont mean much, cause 6% off a 2k axe is a savings of just 120, but with American Standards upwards you can save a lot of money. hell, a few hundred can pay me a trip to sg wei.
