it's when your console shows 3 red rings around the standby button instead of green ring that indicates player 1/2/3/4

The next year batch has a 65nm process tech. Smaller gate length=high speeds+less power dissipation. Hopefully 3ROD can be kowtim from this process.

Hello Bro Djinn,electronics.... sure one day will fail you one... lets get back to the old classic... snake and ladder games If you ask my opinion I believe that with the 65nm process lots of improvement will come. Since it is basically creating a new motherboard for the 360, Microsoft will fix lot of identified problem with that revision. And for sure they have identified whatever problem or randomness associated with the 3 Ring Of Death. Now for the not so good news. I first heard that the revision will come sometime in first quarter of 2007. But read somewhere that now it is delayed to 2nd quarter. IMHO this also means that no price drop until just before summer. However, that is my speculation. Ahhhh! Because no competition whatsoever from PS3 to justify price drop. And summer is just another season where kids will play lots of game. M$ is milking the cow by not dropping price. More money in the war chest for the big fight later Cheers!!! Hell I don't want to be Sonny in summer. |

the batch got the most problem with 3ROD were those manufactured before or during FEB 2006
(what i read from those teamxbox.com, gamespot.com.. bla bla bla.) anything after that was fine and stable. there will always be problem when switching to new technology, i believe you got to wait another half year after they try to use the 65nm thingy. oh i remember reading from FAMITSU(taiwan ver). state there xbox360 won the best electronic design award of the year. i guess they wont be getting this if their machine screw up so easily. i just got my machine 5 days ago, DOA limited edition(not so limited though), manufactured on 15 AUG 2006. and its ORIGINAL. i was having so much fun on the live until the damn earthquake................. oh.. my 1 month free trial........ by the way. forget about this if you getting a... modded version, or "flash" version. |

Sure ... just compare Xbox360 to PS3 motherboard ... and the inner geek inside me just say that microsoft skip alot of "design" decision to make it simple and cheap. One might say that it is a tried and true design and not using new technology like CELL. But then the one cpu core of the 360 is actually very similar to PS3 PPE. So IMHO there is always room for improvement. Hopefully new board revision will add stuff or at least mitigate the heat issue and result to less power consumption since that is what going 65nm is about. There is always very good reason to be original. There will also be reason to change the DVD drive firmware and then play backups or Jack Sparrow edition. There is also reason to wait for the thing to be hacked to allow homebrew or atleast running alternate OS such as Linux. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « With that said it looks like homebrew and linux is something nearly impossible on the 360. Peace!!! |

Good things comes to those who wait.
QUOTE Ever wonder why Microsoft hasn't released an HDMI cable for the Xbox 360, or whether the AV port was really capable of digital out? Well, here's your answer: we landed pictures of what appears to be the second Xbox 360 -- the Xbox 360 v2, if you will -- codenamed Zephyr. (The original Xbox 360, if you recall, was codenamed Xenon.) The long rumored about and awaited update to the console won't just feature a new, cooler 65nm processor, it's also finally added an HDMI port for full digital 1080p pleasure, as well as a 120GB drive, just what the doctor ordered. The 120GB drive may or may not come bundled with the kit, we don't yet know, just as we also don't yet know how much a Zephyr 360 is going to run (we imagine it'll go for the same price as currently so they can keep up a little on their expanding margin). But our very kind Xbox insider seemed happy to let us know we'd be able to get them "soon." ![]() http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/05/the-sec...odename-zephyr/ This is the version I have been waiting for! Very niceee!! |

I really like 1 comment in that site:
"The pic also begs the question, how will one use optical audio and HDMI? I realize HDMI carries the audio but I'm not about to trot out and buy a new receiver that handles HDMI switching. That said, I'm not about to replace my current 360 for HDMI either..." Now....for sure...if it is true...most people would not only need to buy a new xbox 360..but a new HT receiver too...sigh.... |

My guess is that it'll probably cost more...but not up till RM1k more.
The 120G HDD is worth it though...then again, I can control myself from filling up my HDD with too much stuff. |

i think it will not until 1k more. because currently the manufacturing cost should be lower. if this is true, i will wait for the second version of x360 to replaced my bricked console. i really really really missed my x360 moment.

It's no secret that they have been planning to move to 65nm, mostly for the cost savings. Not surprised if they throw in a few upgrades as well and possibly make it smaller and/or integrate the power brick since it should run much cooler.

The ideal thing for most of us would be a standard X360 connector to a HDMI slot for those who wanted to use HDMI with the option of using optical out for audio (note the large box on the standard connector with the optical slot).
Also I would just buy the 120gb drive seperate, my 360 is doing great no 3Rods nothing (touches wood) |

I don't think you can split the audio from a HDMI connection, cause it's meant to be as one so you can't illegally copy the signal!

It's only HDMI. How many of us can use 1080p anyway?
I'm sure the HD will be available separately. But all that space is of no use to me until they implement more video codecs. |

current 360 MS profits abt 75 bucks... + 65nm cost less.. Likely MS won't put the price same as PS3...
I think Ms will make this as premium set and the premium go to core set.. Might be selling at USD399... if I'm not mistaken I've read it from the inquirer... me juz wait for this version 2.... less heat = less comsumption of electricity = less money to operate = more goodies if with 120 GB same as premium... hopefully by March Actually me planning to get 360 end of Jan unmodded.. after keluar bonus... but now mostly not... can't wait to join u guy in live community and chainsawing me the noob This post has been edited by SexyBack: Jan 6 2007, 05:27 PM |

Its not been confirmed that MS will release an updated version with HDMI port yet. I read a while back that dev consoles has hdmi out.
Anyway wait for CES to see whether MS will announce anything regarding this or something similar If really got HDMI with the 65nm chip, you probably can wait till Q3/Q4 before you can get one since the 65nm chip will be out mid this year only due to delay. Anyway the longer you wait, the more you miss out on the games! Heh |

1080p. the ultimate in hd. my two cents, unless your lcd tv really can show the difference between the 780p/1080i ie a really really top of the range model like the bravia x series, i would not think having HDMI makes any difference for much of gaming when you are viewing it at 10 feet away.
seriouly, GOW is really wonderful as it is without HDMI. Well, if it's true, i guess it's meant more for movies, i think for the upscaling of DVD and the HD-DVD add-on connectivity. cheers. |

the HDMI is only beneficial if you hv a full HD tv i.e. 1080p and it's only apparent to naked eyes if you hv a 40" tv or bigger. How many of us hv a 40" or larger Full HD tv anyway...even those guys in UK are mostly using 32" LCD tv (32" LCD tv is the highest selling tv size sold there according to What HiFi Home Cinema mag)..
besides xbox360 is capable of 1080p output now using the VGA input so for us "so called" early adopters there's not much to worry if MS announce for real that they are releasing this 360 Zephyr... As for the 120GB hard disk...it's good to have but i'm sure if we need it MS will sell it as an add-on later...as for me i dont think it's a necessity cos the movie dload service is not available in Spore let alone us in Msia...Msia is not even in the list of Xbox Live country....might as well just stream ur movies thru our 360....that's my 2 cents though...some of u might think otherwise... nway we're open to hv our own opinion but if MS do release the new version it's better for us consumers cos we hv more options...frankly i think if MS do come out with the Zephyr it's just to compete with PS3 so that 360 wont look weaker on paper....in the meantime let us enjoy our marvellous 360 in the year 2007!! |

its just hdmi which isnt for everybody and TheSpecialist is working on a way to use other HDD on your 360.IMHO,if the price is 1000 more than the premium, its just not worth it.

QUOTE(marauderz @ Jan 6 2007, 02:24 PM) I don't think you can split the audio from a HDMI connection, cause it's meant to be as one so you can't illegally copy the signal! Of course one would have the option to use optical output or thru regular RCA as the audio output instead of thru HDMI. It's like that from the start, not everyone has a receiver with HDMI u know. |

dang, just about to purchase one in VERY near time!
while the HDMI is waaay too far fetch for me (no money for that kinda luxury), a way BIGGER hd and BETTER cpu sound veryyyy worth a wait (the ironic part in this is IVE YET TO OWN ONE, SO HOW DO I KNOW?! heehee) and now with this rumour around, M$ will have to get it out (if it turns out to be real indeed) lose money on all waiting-to-buy customers but really, the question really is do you wanna play RainbowSix Vegas NOW (WHILE ITS HOT!), OR 3/4/6 months/a year later? argh!!!!!!! |

Since we are talking about 360 new revision. It is also good to consider what other thing that might be better in the new revision. For instance HDMI port!
Visit the following Xbox Scene link. That is a possibility due to 65nm process and 360 motherboard revision. For me the 65 nm process is good enough reason to wait. Cheers!!! |

How important is the HDMI port?? How many of you do have a TV with HDMI port? The larger HDD I understand might come in handy for some people, but why's everyone seems so worked up over the HDMI port.
Yes, I don't have the pleasure of owning a HDMI capable TV. Just a plain 480P tube. |

Exactly, they can't make any changes to the performance specs because a console platform is supposed to have KNOWN performance capabilities, if you introduce multiple consoles with different performance specs it'll be like the PC world all over again. For 1080P + High Detail : Xbox 360 v2 and above For 1080P + Normal Detail : Xbox 360 v1 No no no, I ditched PC gamer to get away from all that! |

Engadget writes that an Xbox insider has let them know of a new version of the Xbox 360 that will be released soon, complete with HDMI, 120GB hard drive and 65nm processor.
Here's what they say: Ever wonder why Microsoft hasn't released an HDMI cable for the Xbox 360, or whether the AV port was really capable of digital out? Well, here's your answer: we landed pictures of what appears to be the second Xbox 360 - the Xbox 360 v2, if you will - codenamed Zephyr. But our very kind Xbox insider seemed happy to let us know we'd be able to get them "soon." Could an announcement perhaps take place during the International Consumer Electronics Show next week ? We'll see.. |

Just yesterday our inside source gave us a tip that Microsoft Australia has told a store named Myer to prepare the store for a Black 360 with a 120GB hard drive in April. Well day 2 of product knowledge today (Brisbane, Australia) featured Microsoft themselves and it's now 100% official that the Black 360, (with black controller), 120gb hard drive and HDMI is due out in Australia for $749 AU in April. They will try to push this forward to late March to deter buyers from the March 23 PS3 launch. Hopefully we see this good news sometime in Europe and USA. Should you take it as a grain of salt or not, whats your thoughts? *Update: Apparently, our source claims that there are photos of this unit floating around. We will try to procure them. http://www.gamersreports.com/news/4966/120...-hdmi-official/ Apparently, Microsoft Australia has informed a local retailer named Myer to get its store ready for a Black Xbox 360 with an HDMI port and 120 GB Hard Drive. The MSRP for the 2.0 360 is $749 AU (which translates into about $582 USD/ $690 CAD) and it is expected to be released in April, although Microsoft allegedly wants to push for late March to compete with the PS3's launch on the 23rd. Interesting news, but at the same time, don't believe everything you read. http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2007/02/07/ru...120gb-hdmi-360/ ![]() o.... shit shit shit... dunno wanna get 360 now or juz wait now.... they won overwrite their previous design that fast... they need to be more careful now... more experiment to avoid more complains... more complains means business will not grow... MS will not make profit then... |

well the details about version 2 are sketchy, unless you have an absolutely awesomeness TV that requires HDMI for full 1080p output and does not support 1080p through component then it is wise to wait for the version 2, if not just go buy the version 1 and then get the extra HDD later one when the version 2 comes out because for sure they will release it as an add-on as well. Then you can join the community chainsawing
With all that said, if you do go for the version 1, make sure you either put in an aircon place or/and keep the area very well ventilated so that you keep your 360 from overheating, im sure that this is the same as the version 2 but moreso with version 1. Mine has not had 1 3ROD incident (touch wood) since i bought it and i use it everyday (well almost). |

Dunno if anyone else has seen this, but Game Informer and Engadget has details on the 360 Elite!
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/03/20/hdmi-ena...-april-for-479/ So, anyone angry? I'm just okay that they're making the 120GB HDD separately available. |

Anyhoooo, 479.99*3.6 = RM1728 + Postage + Tax + Profit margin, we're talking about exceeding 2k already loh. macam mana? is it worth it? i rather buy the older one with more games |

Imagine the horror... "Black absorbs the entire spectrum of visible LIGHT. It converts this light in to heat conducts it to a colder place.
White, clear or any other colour will reflect some or all of this light and will therefore conduct less heat to the colder area...." - xmen http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qi...8AA0U5U0&show=7 the black aka elite edition of xbox will be like a black hole, sucking up all the heat, u'll get 3ROD in a matter of seconds. |

Is the 120GB HDD will be available at the same time? Maybe there's a market for 360 Premium (white kaler) + 120GB HDD. If the price are lower than Elite, I'll take this combination any time. I can live without HDMI.

Something Interesting:
With the revelation that the black Xbox 360, also known as "Zephyr" is in fact real (the image above is a dev kit, by the way), Engadget has gathered some concrete details from a trusted source. Some of these details were uncovered earlier this morning, but some questions -- particularly the notion of built in WiFi -- are brand new. See the fresh details below. * First of all, the black Xbox 360 will be officially known as the Xbox 360 Elite. * The Elite will be manufactured in limited quantities, possibly a few hundred thousand. * Everything included with the unit will be black, including the case, controller, and Live headset. The packaging will be new as well. * The Elite will cost $479 and will be sold alongside Premium and Core packs. * Eventually, a white version of the Elite will replace Xbox 360 Premium packs. Presumably, this will happen shortly after the Elite is sold out. Once this happens, Premiums will include the 120 GB HDD and HDMI. * There is no solid date for the Elite-to-Premium transition, though it is estimated to happen late summer or early fall. * The Elite runs cooler than the current Premium, but it is unknown if it takes advantage of 65nm chips. * Prices could remain the same when Premiums convert to 120GB/HDMI, but a price cut may still occur once the 65nm chips are implemented. * The HD-DVD player will definitely not be bundled with the Elite and Microsoft stands by its claim that it has no plans to ever integrate an HD-DVD drive into the Xbox 360. * There are no plans to integrate WiFi into the Elite or future Premium packs. So there you have it, everything we know about the Elite until Microsoft decides to send out an official press release. Now that you know all the details (especially the bit about the Elite running cooler), do you plan on picking up an Xbox 360 Elite? ![]() The Picture ISN'T Photoshopped Sorry if it's old news. |

hmm the latest; the black colour version would be a limited version with HDMI + 120gb. Once the black colour version is sold out, the white colour version will be upgraded to the same specs. one thing for sure. the Add On will still be optional

Hmm...
Who's waiting for a future promotion: TMNet IPTV + 360 Elite combo or something like that (SG broadband did stuff like this) since the Zephyr supports IPTV and diskspace even beats Astro MAX? As much as I hate TM for their international connections, local connections are rather good. If they manage to get their 8MB line nationwide we might get Elites for cheap. |

oh icing on the cake for eliters
Added on March 26, 2007, 6:40 amoh lagik rumour - MS official announcement on 29th May Added on March 26, 2007, 6:41 am+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The San Jose Mercury News' Dean Takahashi has a bit more details on the rumored Xbox 360 Elite edition that Game Informer reported on earlier this month. Game Informer had already reported that the new, black 360 would come with a 120-gig hard drive and HDMI out and sell for $479. Takahashi adds that the new 360 will habe IPTV capabilities, something I suggested would make sense, and that the new design will also implement the a chip redesign, shifting from 90 nanometer to 65 nanometer, resulting in a significant drop in cost to Microsoft. Takahashi adds that he thinks the introduction of the new 360, which will be produced in limited quantities, will not effect the price of the current core or 20-gig models. I suspect that this new model will hit in April, with official word coming as early as next week. I also wouldn't be surprised that if consumer interest shifted to the newer model, that Microsoft drops the price on their current models by this holiday season. Brian Crecente Added on March 26, 2007, 6:42 am++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Microsoft To Announce The Xbox 360 Elite By Dean Takahashi Saturday, March 24th, 2007 at 2:15 pm in Dean Takahashi, Gaming, General. Rumors have floated in the past month that Microsoft will launch a new high-end version of the Xbox 360. It's true that Microsoft is preparing to announce the Xbox 360 Elite, a version of the game console with black plastic and advanced features. Several sources confirmed Microsoft plans to add this box to its product line. The new box will go on sale in limited quantities soon for $479. The details may not be precise here, but I believe it will have an HDMI connector so that you can connect at the highest speed to a high-definition TV. It will come with a 120-gigabyte hard disk drive and will have IPTV capability. Bill Gates announced in January that the Xbox 360 was capable of serving as a set-top box for IPTV, or Internet Protocol TV, which phone companies such as AT&T are using to offer high-definition movies and scores of channels in competition with TV. The Xbox 360 Elite will apparently not come with a built-in HD-DVD drive, which will remain an option for playing high-definition movie disks. In the spring, the new machine will be available in limited quantities and it will reflect a redesigned motherboard. Tina Conley, an outside spokeswoman for Microsoft, declined to comment on Saturday. How solid is this information? Some details may be wrong. I'm not looking at any press release right now that describes it all. The details will be announced soon enough. I've been waiting for Microsoft to make a move like this. The company has scheduled a motherboard redesign and cost reduction for every year, but this is the first major change to take the costs out of the inside of the Xbox 360. By the fall, the company will also implement a chip redesign, shifting from 90-nanometer production to 65 nanometer production. That will bring costs down fairly dramatically and will enable Microsoft to make the box in larger quantities by the fourth quarter. Every other year, the company plans to shrink the size of its chips. It is overdue for a shift from the 90-nanometer chips that it started with in 2005 to the 65-nanometer chips commonly in production elsewhere. That transition isn't yet complete but it should be by the fall. Why is it important to miniaturize a chip? When you make the width between circuits in a chip (the difference between 90 and 65), the technology gets better. The electrons travel shorter distances, the circuits are more reliable, defects can go down, yields go up, and you can fit the same chip design in a much smaller area. Since chip costs directly relate to how much material you use, a smaller chip is cheaper to make. Every console maker will have the opportunity to reduce the costs of its chips. But how the console makers capitalize on that decision depends on strategy. Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Morgan, said in an email that he believes Microsoft will launch its elite box, but he isn't sure how it will position the other boxes, especially the Core unit. I expect the Xbox 360 with the 20-gigabyte hard disk drive will continue to sell for $399 and the Core unit, which has no hard drive, will sell for $299. At $479, the Xbox 360 Elite will still be cheaper than Sony's $499 20-gigabyte PlayStation 3 and the $599 60-gigabyte PS 3. But it will match the Sony box with the HDMI connector feature. The Sony box is not yet capable of IPTV. It is interesting that Microsoft hasn't added the HD-DVD drive as a permanent feature. The format war with Blu-ray is still going on, and that drive would add considerable cost. Microsoft sells it separately for $199. The larger hard drive on the Xbox 360 Elite will make it much more useful for downloading movies and serving as a digital video recorder, which is one of the primary uses of an IPTV set-top box. High-definition movies can take up five gigabytes or more, while standard movies take about a gigabyte of storage space. Hence, 120 gigabytes is enough for, accounting for 10 gigabytes used by the system for other things, about 22 HD movies. In any case, this is going to put some pressure on Sony and it will enable Microsoft to patch some holes in the technological capability of the Xbox 360. It will enable Microsoft to please the relatively small group of hardcore gamers who care about having the highest-end technology in the living room. It's those gamers who are most tempted by the PS 3. HDMI, for instance, will enable someone to view games and movies the way they were meant to be seen in either 720p or 1080p resolutions. Microsoft Confirms HDMI Xbox360 on XNA GSE forums
QUOTE Microsoft XNA Framework Developer probably unintentionally confirmed it for you. To this question asked on the official XNA Game Studio Express forums: "Will the HDMI output on the revised 360 require any code changes. I am hoping some developers have a beta unit and can answer this question." He answered: "No changes required." |

Hmm check the date on the pics, the Elite console has been in production since before mid February.
HDMI and 120GB hard disk confirmed ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Here we go again! It's only been a few days since we last wrote about the black Xbox 360, and despite all the commotion here in Europe after the launch of the PlayStation 3 this weekend (we'll get there, too, in just a bit), our attention has been caught yet again by the stories surrounding Microsoft's darkened console. There's still no official press release detailing the now-certain black Xbox 360 - or Xbox 360 Elite, as it's called - if that's what you were hoping for. But we did come across some photographs taken at the production line in China, showing that it's as real as possible. And (almost) ready for shipping. The photos were apparently taken last month, but only now some Chinese dude gathered the courage to post them on the TGFCer forums (one of China's top bulletin boards), along with the following message, as auto-translated by Google: "As mobile phones, cameras can not be brought into plants. The key to reaching the buttocks no plans, joy!" As horrified as we may be at the thought of someone hiding his mobile phone where the sun don't shine, and then smuggle it inside the manufacturing plant to take those pictures, we can only be grateful for finally having some solid piece of evidence supporting the recent rumours about the Xbox 360 Elite. One of the shots also confirms the 120 GB hard drive, and as for the HDMI output, that confirmation (sort of) comes straight from a Microsoft dev, via Xbox-Scene: Q: Will the HDMI output on the revised 360 require any code changes? A: No changes required. A couple of days ago, it was also stated on Mercury News that the Xbox 360 Elite will indeed have IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) capability, but no built-in or bundled HD-DVD drive. By common consensus, the black model will cost $479, and will start shipping this April, in limited quantities (reportedly a couple hunded thousands). So, what more details do you still need? The Xbox 360 Elite drum beat grows louder Xbox 360 Elite systems have been caught in the wild on a Chinese production line. Xbox 360 Fanboy has images of racks of black Xbox 360 units taken from a Chinese video game forum. The images not only show the sleek, black exterior of the Xbox 360 Elite, but a close-up image shows the 120GB hard disk drive (HDD) fitted atop the console. Further confirmation of the Xbox 360 Elite came over the weekend from Dean Takahashi of the The Mercury News. Takahashi was the first to break the news of the Xbox 360's upcoming IPTV service. Likewise, promotional materials from Gamestop have been spotted which detail the 120GB which will be made available as a stand-alone upgrade for current Xbox 360 owners. While the new black exterior and 120GB HDD may be headliner features of the $479 USD Xbox 360 Elite, the addition of an HDMI port and an HDMI cable are also added bonuses. Two features that are reportedly missing from the Xbox 360 Elite, however, are built-in WiFi and an internal HD DVD drive. Engadget notes that the Xbox 360 Elite will be available in limited quantities sometime this Spring and that Xbox 360 Premium systems will get Elite-spec hardware (sans black finish) sometime in late Summer/early Fall. The price is expected to remain at $399 while price cuts are expected to help clear out the existing stock of Xbox 360 Premiums with the smaller 20GB HDD. ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by g5sim: Mar 27 2007, 10:22 AM |

Via Xbox 360 Fanboy:
![]() Months and months of speculation, leaked photos, and random bits of information have finally come to an end. Microsoft just officially announced what we've all expected, the black Xbox 360 Elite. Everything we've heard before is pretty much true; HDMI connectivity, a massive 120GB HDD and everything is painted a matte finished black. You'll be able to purchase this black wonder April 29th for $479.99 US which even includes the HDMI cable. The Xbox 360 Elite is not a limited edition package and will not replace the current offerings, but will be treated as another SKU. Microsoft also announced that other black accessories will be available for purchase separately including black play and charge packs, controllers, and headsets. Finally, the 120GB HDD will also be available separately for $179.99 US. Read the full press release after the break and be sure to check out Joystiq's lovely Xbox 360 Elite photo gallery ... oh the joy! So fanboys, will you be going black this April? There goes my budget for PS3....lol...just kidding..DJinn..still no news on PS3 singapore version pricing???? Not forget to mention..the xbox 360 elite pricing too...
Excerpt from teamxbox.com on sony reaction: Ahead of the official announcement, Sony has responded to Microsoft's Xbox 360 Elite. Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America, said: "We think every PlayStation 3 owner should have an "elite" experience, which is why we include an internal hard drive and HDMI output in every PS3 we sell, along with the 50 GB of storage capacity on a high definition Blu-ray disc. Sony has been the strongest advocate of high definition as the future of next-generation gaming. This requires high-definition components, including HDMI output, and large storage devices to deliver and store all that rich and vivid HD content. Microsoft's announcement today not only legitimizes Sony's PS3 strategy, it moves us closer to adopting universal standards in the area of high definition gaming that will benefit game developers and ultimately the end user. Maybe I should add Peter Dille response..... an elite experience with few interesting game titles to play with[ This post has been edited by silencer: Mar 28 2007, 01:17 PM |

QUOTE The Xbox 360 120GB Hard Drive includes a data transfer kit to easily migrate all of your saved data from your 20GB HDD to your 120GB HDD. It comes preloaded with great HD game demos, videos, and an assortment of Xbox Live Arcade game trials. haha, great news. so who here has the best line? buy the 120GB and dload demos all day lor, the rest of us go to ur house/shop to copy over those large demos in minutes rather than days or maybe can have gathering to swap & copy demos wonder if they sell the data transfer kit separately? QUOTE(oniee @ Mar 28 2007, 03:36 PM) i agree but what with the price tag? for 120GB?? HDMI and black color doesn't really interest me as much cause i don't own a tv that can display 1080p or PC monitor for that matter... wait for ppl to upgrade to 120gb, they surely will sell off their old 20gb for lower price. can grab 2 more to get 60GB!! i just hope that this rumored data cable is true... then id just get the 120gb upgrade and be happy with my jap unit, since there's no confirmed news of 65nm and quieter/cooler operation with the 360 elite.

Added on March 28, 2007, 7:20 pm QUOTE(sonic_cd @ Mar 28 2007, 03:03 PM) IINM, there's already a hack that allowed you to use normal notebook HDD to replace 360 HDD. the only catch is that it need some sort of code that will make 360 recognize it. the code also stated how big the HDD is, and currently 360 only support 20GB HDD, maybe when the Zephyr come out they manage to get the code for 120GB HDD. about this secret thingy, IMHO, microsoft want to launch it next month but with the news leaked everywhere, they have to release this product. Added on March 28, 2007, 8:47 pmafter second thought, i think i will go for white version. imagine this: black console black controller black battery white second controller white wireless steering wheel white wireless adapter eventhough it is still 3 black vs 3 white , but....it is still weird considering x360 is considered hiasan dalaman for me. More Media Trickles In
![]() Earlier this morning Microsoft officially announced the Xbox 360 Elite system and from what we can tell, it's getting a mixed response. Some of you feel that it's an unnecessary slap in the face to early adopters while others are pumped to welcome the new black hardware into their homes. So, we felt it was our duty to gather more information, pictures, and videos of the 360 Elite and further educate everyone. Then, we can all make an informed opinion and decision. Thank us later. Click through the links below to experience complete Xbox 360 Elite learnification. * Channel 10 has an interview and Q&A with the Elite's main man Albert Penello. * Major Nelson's special mid-week Elite podcast. * Take a look at up close and hands on photos. * Official press photos of all the black happiness. * Read about all the Elite details over at Xbox.com. * 120GB HDD info (it includes a migration cable). QUOTE The Xbox 360 Elite will reach Singaporean shores by early May and Hong Kong in June. Man i enjoy that..LinkThe criticism faced over certain technical aspects is the reason for the wide release of the "Elite". Many would be buyers are put off by the 3 Rings technical failure and as a result of that Microsoft confirms that a worldwide launch is confirmed. i think rgd the 65nm issue, MS wont come out & announce suddenly they switch to a new revision. they'll do it secretly and continue until the old 90nm old stocks sold out.
so i'll won't be surprised if the 65nm do turn up in certain models around Fall'07. but from the outside box, sure kenot see any difference one This post has been edited by acougan: Mar 29 2007, 01:48 AM |

coming out with a new product totally.. which bears the same initials are a disgrace 2 the producer of it. does this means that it is admitting their own failure to comprehend the future? (HDMI, 65nm?!, 3ROD)
if i had bought a 360 when it was released, i will be cursing m$ by now.. even more if i got 3rod along the way! |

some info on the 'transfer cable'...
Data From Two Xbox 360 HDDs Can't Be Combined On 120GB Drive QUOTE The 120GB drive will only store information from the last drive transferred, meaning that any attempt to transfer more than one drive will overwrite the previous one. Furthermore, all contents previously written to the 120GB drive be automatically deleted. Also, once the data has been moved from a 20GB to a 120GB drive, it cannot be moved back to the 20GB drive. Presumably, a special cable will facilitate the transfer of data from one drive to the other. QUOTE(MK84 @ Mar 29 2007, 01:13 PM) If you read the article, it will erase ur old HDD when you do the transfer...and it will only retained data from 1 particular HDD transfer...so ur screwed if you have more than 1. It's like auto formatting. The transfer cable is kinda useless even if you get it out of the box.Yes! you can use a SATA cable or an external USB HDD but that's not the point. Why design something and then put a restriction. I honestly believe that the people who are interested in the 120GB either have 2/more or tired of transferring data back and forth between external drive. |

Extract from Joystix original post regarding the new 120 GB HDDQUOTE So, a much bigger Xbox 360 hard drive is a good thing, right? Well ... not when it comes with some fairly crippling conditions. Wired has the skinny on some of the small print on Microsoft's new little "Elite" storage device: You cannot put the data from two or more 20 GB hard disks onto one 120 GB hard disk. If you attempt to move multiple drives, only the last one you move will be stored. You can only move data from the 20GB Hard Disk to the 120 GB Hard Disk. Transferring data in the other direction, or any other combination, is not possible. Any data stored on the 120 GB hard disk will be automatically deleted. Any data stored on the 20 GB hard disk will be automatically deleted after it is moved over. Once you move the data over, it cannot be placed back on the original hard disk. After all the hoo-ha about Xbox 360 Elite... I found out that it will be Exclusive to North American owners only. Japan don't intend to have a Xbox 360 Elite for it... so will there be an Asian version remains to be seen...

Well, XBOX 360 is selling poorly in Japan so I seriously doubt that they're gonna release the Elite version there. As for Asian version, if Japan doesn't get it, I guess pretty much know the verdict for an Asian version. I guess sooner or later, the premium and core ones will come with HDMI output, as for the HDD, 20GB is sufficient unless you download every single game from XBOX Live. Even my old XBOX's 8GB HDD was more than enough for me despite having played and saved many games on it. I guess the need for 120GB is not a necessity yet. HDMI maybe if future games support 1080P, no point scalling 720P games to 1080P, it won't result a better picture.

so it's not the 65 nm chip?
The 479 price tag are equal to a Core set + 120GB HDD. M$ not giving any chance for cheaper set. Bah... |

Who needs Elite anyhow..latest news..as I predicted earlier in this thread...
Microsoft prepping component to HDMI adapter? "Friendly tipster Evan M wasn't too stoked to see an Xbox 360 Elite headed for store shelves after he'd just purchased a Premium 360, especially considering the fact that his TV has a whole HDMI port twiddling its thumbs, just waiting to get its game on. After informing Microsoft of his displeasure through what we're sure was a politely worded email, Evan claims to have received a slightly encouraging response from a Microsoft support person, promising an upcoming HDMI to component adapter for the 'box to make his situation perhaps a bit more bearable. Unfortunately, the support person also mentioned that "we do not have information as of the moment if the cable will be sold separately," which might mean such an adapter is only destined for sales with some sort of updated Premium SKU, at least for the immediate future. We'll keep our eyes peeled." If only hollywood will allow it???? Hmmm..another well kept secret from Microsoft again... This post has been edited by silencer: Mar 30 2007, 02:33 AM |

Andre Vrignaud Confirms no HDMI-cable for 'old 360s', HDMI Advantages
QUOTE Re: "Will there be an HDMI cable released for us early adopters? If not that kinda sucks." Source: http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EE...pFuwzHrukoS.phpUnfortunately there will not be an HDMI adapter released for the original 360. The HDMI spec is basically a 2-way street and requires the specific port on both sides to be enabled. This is why we had to change the box. |

Hey Djinn..... I think take my name off the list.
Will wait for the Asian Version.....and THEN you can put my name on THAT list. Hate using a Step-Down converter and worried about compatibility issues later. Thanks again man... But don't worry.... my dad is VERY interested in the Elite and signing up for at LEAST a year of Live Gold..... |

To be honest, is wifi that reliable for online gaming? I keep my wireless router close to my 360 so I can run an RJ45 into the LAN port - somehow the limitations of wifi doesn't appeal to me when even wired internet faces so much trouble from streamyx.

You get problems with Wifi when you have too many access points clustered too close to each other.
Within a structure, wifi could be problematic if you have cordless phones, astro extender, ie any devices using the 2.4GHz band. All these problems can be solved by using 802.11a instead of 802.11b/g. I had no problems with my 2nd 360 (acting as media center extender) using 802.11a. Last time when using 802.11g always face network problems especially when watching Live TV. |

QUOTE(cannavaro @ Apr 21 2007, 02:09 AM) QUOTE One a side note, we all had a good belly laugh here at the shop when we saw Microsoft's most creative measures to minimize the dreaded Xbox 360 3 flashing red lights "ring of death" error caused by poor BGA connections of the CPU and GPU. It seems that that the good ol' a dab will do ya methodology applies here. Take a look at the epoxy surrounding the CPU and GPU which is intended to prevent the BGA connection from popping as the board warps. This has to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Will it do the job, we have our doubts, but it will remain to be seen. It certainly seems like taking the easy way out instead of fixing the real problem. maybe time to wave 3RoD bye-bye? Xbox 360 Elite vs. classic: the test
http://www.engadget.com/2007/04/26/xbox-36...assic-the-test/ In a nutshell... QUOTE Basically, unless you are seriously eagle-eyed, have a massive friggin screen, or for whatever reason need to use HDMI because you're all out of component inputs, your investment in the first-gen Xbox 360 is probably safe. Do yourself a favor, just buy that 120GB drive if you need the space, the HDMI really just doesn't justify replacing your whole console for a new $480 unit. Then again, if you're truly "elite" then all the stuff we just said really doesn't matter, and you're probably gonna buy this thing anyway. Cheers, enjoy! |

If you can wait, just wait. If you can't, just get it. No big difference really.
If you're planning to go unmodded, your machine's covered under warranty anyways. The 65nm promises cooler chips, but in reality, it doesn't affect your gaming experience at all. As for Elite, it just comes with additional HDMI + 120GB HDD. That's all. If you're not purchasing and downloading TV shows from US, there's not much use for the 120GB. |

The 3ROD's caused by the X Clamp, which causes the motherboard to flex. You can read more about it in another thread, just look around.
Even if they were to switch to 65nm processors, that might fixed the 3ROD problem, but at the same time, it might introduce some new problems with it as well. When that happen, will you wait still? If you're getting unmodded consoles, you don't really have to worry lar. Just get it, and play like mad. If you were to be greeted by the dreaded ring of deaths, just send it back. If you're too lazy to wait, just replace the xclamp like what I did. |

I think for the best solution they should ask or someone or any company and remade the motherboard.

well for me if ur current xbox360 already perfect condition, why should u change it to elite? For me i just buy the 120GB HDD and the 512KB memory card for my Xbox360.
in IGN.com said there is no reason why should the current xbox360 gamers change to the elite version...for those dont have any 360, then it`s worth to purchase the xbox360 elite version...both version are the same but the elite had lil bit more spec then the previous version.. Elite also had the 3 ROD probs...its happen to US gamers who had purchased the elite machine....but not all units ( same as the current xbox360 )** So depends,if u had a lot of money then u can purchase the elite..i suggest that to current xbox360 gamers, if ur console 100% perfect dont take a risk to trade in the console with the elite version, we afraid that the new version not as bettter as our current 360 console. |

actually it based on luck...that is why i said b4, if u had perfect condition xbox360 , please dont take a risk to trade in and buy the elite version...im afraid that it will make u cry like a baby.

Most people will buy the elite because of the hdmi connection...especially for 1080p resolution for their xbox 360 and hd-dvd add on. Whoever said there is no difference at all if compared with the component input ....is really a jock. As in my case, I even c a different that the red push in my lcd tv is already disappear when I cahnge my connection from componet input to vga for 1080p resolution...for both of my xbox and hd-dvd add on. I believe the PQ through hdmi input ..will be at par or even better than my current vga connection....

i'm guessing all new 360s manufactured in august'07 and beyond have extra heatsinks. the problem is many unsold stocks still exist for the 360 in the US. thats why they announce a pricedrop to sell off the old models, i think.

i'm actually hoping some third party company will sell a DIY heatsink replacement. i'm sure even those official MS heatsinks are manufactured in china, right? then, all those stuck with old models can change the heatsink to extend its lifespan.

Intead of bringing us the "US" version and sold it here which I"m very very afraid off I share your fear. If it's a totally new batch, my mind would be at ease. QUOTE Well that's about all I have to say about the Elite at this time. In short it looks like they've taken steps to improve the cooling of the GPU, even if the "glue frame" leaves us scratching our heads. If you're on the fence about getting a 360 because of the "ring of death" reports, I'd say go for it anyway, especially if you can afford an Elite since it seems to have been updated. I wouldn't be surprised if newer Cores and Premiums are improved as well. Now if only Microsoft would include built-in WiFi - maybe when the 65nm chips hit, which should also end the cooling problems for good - then they could truly stomp the PS3 into dust This says it all, from his review. There are improvements, but does it make any difference? |

QUOTE(daidzz @ Oct 18 2008, 07:21 PM) hey anybody here have experience with transferring data from your xbox360 (premium) to your new xbox 360 Elite? I did or rather, GH did it for me. Took an hour. I traded in my premium for the elite last year after it severely scratched my Oblivion and Halo 3 LE. While waiting I drove home to take money to pay for the sku upgrade =p There was a side effect though. My Halo 3 save file didn't work and I had to start the stage again (I wasn't very far off anyway). Every other game has been fine.replies appreciated. thanks =) |

I play games continously for hours.
So I hope the 360 can withstand my gaming habits. |
