Tom Hardy is 'Venom'

QUOTE
Sony had already surprised everyone once with the simple fact they’re moving a Venom standalone film into production with a Fall 2018 release date, but now they’ve one-upped themselves by casting Tom Hardy. Yes, Tom Hardy, man of a million, equally incomprehensible voices and all round class act will be playing Eddie Brock in Rueben Fleischer’s film based on the corrupted Spider-Man villain.

An announcement was obviously going to happen soon if Sony were actually going to follow through on their promise of an 18-month production, but nobody expected Hardy to be headlining. There’d been no rumors or even speculation on this. Now the initial shock has subsided, though, there’s really only one conclusion: they couldn’t have snatched up a better star.

Specifically for this project, Hardy has experience in the blockbuster and superhero arena. Obviously, he played villain Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and was for a time attached to Suicide Squad before scheduling conflicts with The Revenant forced him to drop out, and through his repeated collaboration with Christopher Nolan (besides Rises he’s been in Inception and the upcoming Dunkirk) has manage to notch up several tentpole releases despite a more artistic angling. This is rather rudimentary, but beyond evident acting prowess and an understanding of how to play to fans, it means he’ll be well-equipped to deal with what is going to be a breakneck production.

Should be interesting... considering how Spider-Man 3 botched 'Venom'. This character in my opinion is slightly difficult (alien origin/not entirely evil) to adapt on-screen.

Watched it today.

Absolutely loved it.

I was thinking... why do we need another reboot (minus the obvious MCU reason).

Everything was so well thought out in this one.

Where to begin...

No spoilers.

Let's start with the story.

It basically starts from the point at which Peter Parker 'gets the job' from Tony Stark. Stylized with a handheld camera point of view and leads straight to that "Underooos..." scene from Civil War. laugh.gif

NYC... the 'alien invasion' put to good use. All those 'alien tech'. Smart.

Then we wait...

And wait...

...for his next mission.

And that's where it all happens.

Some superb acting chops by Tom Holland as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man no thanks to the on-off presence of RDJ as Tony Stark. Michael Keaton adds that too. Aunt May wub.gif

There's quite a few of my favorite moments in the film, the love-hate between Peter and Tony Stark, Peter struggling with his dual life, great stuff...

Vulture is not some 'plain old bad guy'. He believes he has a point in doing something good. Not your typical "take-over-the-world" villain.

Just when you thought the story is going to go just the way you thought, they add that 'family ties' element to it. Just like Spider-Man 1 from 2002 (Norman Osborn). It's hard to believe it has been 15 years since the first Spider-Man film.

The visual effects were great.

That final few seconds of the film... thumbsup.gif

The mid-credits scene was fine. The post-credits scene was epic troll rclxms.gif

They JUST KEEP TEASING! That suit at the end... "MJ" hahaha....

9/10

I did feel the Vulture scenes could have been trimmed/seem prolonged. And the cinema I watched it at (MBO Kepong), was quite dim in the night scenes.

Thank you Captain America for rewarding us for being patient.

On a different note, I think asking anymore from 'Homecoming' is a too much.

The film had everything you could ever have asked for in a Spidey film.

The 'unlocked mode' sequences were an absolute blast.

Love the idea of the re-imagining of MJ and certain key elements of Spider-Man.

Marvel teasing the crap out of us again at the end.... with that suit and Aunt May laugh.gif

Aunt M*lf...

Seem like they 'accentuated' her looks even more in this film, as if after how fans reacted to seeing her first in Civil War.

Not sure if posted before but damn....

That's what I'm talking about it.

When I first heard it in 'Homecoming', I was like wow! Taking a classic and revamping it... sounds so MCUish

Just like Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield, former Spider-Man co-stars laugh.gif

In the next Spider-Man Homecoming 2 (working title), I bet "MJ" will become 'good looking' and Peter will fall for her. Marvel simply sandbagging this... those who complained "MJ" looked disheveled/out-of-place, that's exactly what they were going after. The sort of "the-one-you-have-been-looking-for-has-been-in-front-of-your-eyes-all-along" thing biggrin.gif

At 1:50... why do I get a feeling The Avengers are "no more" or rather "not available anymore".

Also, Happy seems to be running around with Spidey instead of Tony Stark - - did Tony Stark... not make it? confused.gif My idea is that Tony Stark retired and is living a recluse after Endgame.

And Nick Fury doesn't look too pleased, maybe that's just how he looks all the time.

I also get the vibe of a "Young Avengers" team brewing. flex.gif

QUOTE(Dominic Toretto @ Jan 16 2019, 10:10 AM)
So thus the question, is this happened after Avenger EG or before Avenger EG?

And guess that Aunt May already knew Peter is Spiderman
*
This is after Avengers Endgame, the first post-Endgame MCU film.

I'm pretty sure whatever happened to the Avengers in Endgame will carry forward in this film... it would be weird if it was happening parallel with it or BEFORE the events of Endgame.

Yeah, seems like Aunt May has embraced Peter's Spidey and loving the attention laugh.gif

As expected MJ and Peter's relationship will blossom and MJ will be dolled up instead of her washed up look in Homecoming, a really unique take on the character MJ, tampering with our expectations from the first film and that's nice.

does that mean ironman will xxx in EG ?

The fear is real.

Either he sacrificed himself being the ultimate hero or retired. Could go either way.

I doubt Robert Downey Jr. himself would want to continue playing the same role after over a decade. laugh.gif

Heard that the multiple snaps could have caused gamma radiation on a global scale that would result in mutation among the people.... this is a solid way to bring in the X-Men! biggrin.gif

Loving the multiverse idea as well ... so many possibilities.

It's an absolute win in my books... in some ways better than "Homecoming" as this sequel explores the relationships between the characters even more especially MJ (which fans were groaning was not the MJ they wanted).

I am not familiar with the comic book source of Mysterio, but the first half of the movie, the villain was "meh" and I thought "no wonder fans are upset".... but then the twist came along biggrin.gif And it all made sense... I have to admit I didn't actual watch all the trailers to keep the surprises tongue.gif

To me this is yes, another 'typical' Marvel film but an absolute blast from start to finish. This feels like a somewhat light hearted epilogue to Endgame, and it worked.

Jake Gyllenhaal delivered a stellar performance as expected along with Tom Holland and Zendaya.

I watched it while lying down on comfy sofa (GSC Gold Class) and didn't even feel the 2 hours+ go by. laugh.gif Didn't feel any sort of pacing issues and was just hooked from the beginning.

It was hilarious, it had tender moments and a nice tribute to Iron Man. The whole EDITH thing is pretty cool too.

The mid-credits was great (another what the f--- moment) and the post-credits (expected it to be a funny tidbit) was nice as well.

To top it all off... I did comment on wanting to bring back a certain character in this topic goodness knows when... a character WE ALL LOVED from the Tobey Maguire days. This is akin to bringing back Judi Dench as 'M' in the Daniel Craig era of Bond films!!! notworthy.gif

When I saw that, I was just SUPER excited! I could not believe it.

They could have easily.... easily skewed the character towards a 'new' direction since this is Tom Holland era Spidey BUT THEY DID NOT! They kept his character just like we knew him from years ago. He could even have cameod as another character. Thank you Marvel!

To me this is one of the strongest sequels from the MCU era, here's hoping the final part of the 'Homecoming' trilogy delivers.

Getting Ironman 3 vibes again (when I found out that Mandarin wasn't an evil mastermind with 10 rings of power, just a stage actor).
It's an okay 3/5 film that managed to shoot its own foot by taking the easy route in writing
*
I felt that too briefly tongue.gif .. but it is unlike Mandarin who "isn't actually plotting to do evil", the villain in Far From Home was absolutely convincing no thanks to Jake Gyllenhaal's performance.

"Iron Man 3" Mandarin twist remains one of my least liked MCU part.

I am super stoked for how the third and final part of the Homecoming trilogy is going to be since the mid-credits scene ohmy.gif

QUOTE
In April 2017, it was announced that a potential third film is planned.[45] In June of the same year, Holland announced that the film would take place during Parker's senior year of high school. In July 2019, Kevin Feige stated that the third film would feature "a Peter Parker story that has never been done before on film" due to the film's mid-credits scene

First thing that came to mind was Peter Parker passes the mantel of Spidey to someone else laugh.gif Miles Morales. We did get to see Aaron Davis in "Homecoming" so there's that. After all, Tom Holland has already appeared in 5 films (Civil War, Homecoming, Infinity War, Endgame, Far From Home) so a sixth and final appearance isn't too far fetched.

Ouch. Actually this will hurt Sony more. Up to them, they have rights to do so...

It was great having Spidey with the other characters.

Yeap. Spidey is back in the MCU.

I guess Marvel knew they had to renegotiate with Sony thus there was an uncertainty that prompted them not to officially announce Spidey for Phase 4 (the official announcement).

I'm late to the update but from what I read, Holland will continue to play Spider-Man but Watt's involvement as director is uncertain. The third film will be different than previous Spidey films due to the likelihood of having no MCU connection.

It can still work IMO, albeit it will be a bit 'weird'. I'm hoping Holland doesn't decide to leave... I'm hoping for continuity to "Far From Home" otherwise we will have one of the worst cliffhangers in movie history! doh.gif

QUOTE
In August 2019, it was reported that Walt Disney Studios and Sony were unable to reach a new agreement regarding Spider-Man films, with Marvel Studios and Feige said to no longer have any involvement in any of the potential future films. Deadline Hollywood noted that Disney had hoped future films would be a "50/50 co-financing arrangement between the studios", with the possibility to extend the deal to other Spider-Man-related films, an offer Sony rejected and did not counter. Instead, Sony hoped to keep the terms of the previous agreement, where Marvel would receive 5% of the film's revenue, with Disney refusing. The Hollywood Reporter added that the lack of a new agreement would see the end of Holland's Spider-Man in the MCU. Variety cited unnamed sources claiming negotiations had "hit an impasse" and that a new deal could still be reached. Deadline also reported that it was believed that two additional films were said to be in development, with the hope of having Watts and Holland return for both. Sony announced that the media "mischaracterized" recent discussions about Feige's involvement in the franchise, expressed disappointment over Disney's decision, and confirmed that Feige would no longer be the lead producer on the next live-action Spider-Man film.

Despite the fallout between Sony and Disney, screenwriters Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers are reportedly still developing a third film. However, Watts was only set to direct the first two and his involvement with the third is uncertain. Speaking at the 2019 D23 Expo, Feige said that the deal was always short-lived and that they had already told the Spider-Man story they wanted to tell in the MCU. Holland added that while the future of Spider-Man would be different outside the MCU, he would continue to play Spider-Man.

Marvel 5% of revenue from Spidey 1 & 2, now 50% sweat.gif Why want such a deal what with all the revenue from other MCU films? This will sadly affect the fans the most. Tom Holland must be feeling really bad, while Spidey fans - - deja vu again.
