certainly cannot. 13-inch MBP is a better choice. Forget about 12-inch macbook unless u Super Super Super Super Super needs the smaller form factor and lighter weight.

Hey there westlife - Would the 12" Macbook not be suitable for autodesk even at maxed out specs (i7, 16GB, 512GB)? I believe the storage and RAM is fine, so the bottleneck being the processor?

totally no if u ask me. 3d design such as autodesk you are better off even with the base model of 13-inch MBP (not even max out) than the max out 13-inch MB.

yes, bottleneck is processor. dun just look at the turbo boost. over the years, from 2015 to now 2017, the 12-inch macbook performance has improved a lot, this is certainly true. but one must consider the processor architecture. the core m processor simply does not suitable for heavy task.

seriously even u upgraded to the i7 (renamed of the m7 for kabe lake), it is still core m, and it is not going to sustain the turbo boost power for long that is sufficient for you to do heavy tasks.

ram does not make a big difference even you upgraded to 16gb unless you run VMs or video editing, else u do not really take advantage of it. and given the processing power of the 12-inch macbook, no point to upgrade to 16gb in my two cents. 16gb is future proof for sure, but seriously no point to do it on 12-inch macbook.

if you really plan to max out, it means that you think that you will need a lot of processing power, u will certainly be better off with 13-inch nTB maxout too (i7 16gb ram 512gb).
no point to invest such money in my view.

I always think that one wants to get the 12-inch macbook is really for those who has super light workflow (web surfing/productivity etc), certainly not for any heavy task.

Hey, thanks for the response westlife. Valuable insights - I indeed wasn't aware the Macbook i7 proc being the Y variant. Was hoping for U.

To be honest I am steering away from the MBP as I would like a form factor giving <1KG total weight. Unfortunately seems that Apple does not have something I want for the moment.

Form factor and weight is always opposite to the processing power. This theory stays always.
Most of the time, you can only have one of them and not both certainly.

Within the Apple family in this case, yea. There are a few options but it's beyond this thread, and it isn't MacOS, so a bit of a trade-off I'd need to make.
