i am using the USB-C VGA Multiport Adapter, it is good and it is essential to have, as the 12-inch only has one port. so far so good, no problem with it. that time i bought it at sgd98 which it is very expensive (heart-pain).

i prefer to buy apple own adapter for the piece of mind in terms of compatibility.

i had bought one more USB-C to USB Adapter and USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter (HDMI). tongue.gif

I'm thinking of third party. I don't like many adapters. If possible, I'd like everything in one piece.
I think the only think I will buy in addition is the power adapter and cable: the original ones for home use, another ones for outside use.

third parties there are a lot. but i personally find them not reliable. unless brand such as moshi etc.

apple one will be reliable.

But costly also

i just hope that i am using the new macbook pro instead.  tongue.gif

Haha... lucky me that I've waited...
I went to compare the weight of both myself yesterday and I don't feel much difference.
MBP is slightly heavier and smaller compared to MacBook...
I ended up placing an order for MBP without touchbar yesterday evening...
Now I went broke again...

being comfortable with Mac12 size

If you compare a MBP 13 inch i5 without touchbar 256GB SSD with a MacBook m5 512GB, the price is just RM200 difference.
Go to any apple authorized reseller and compare both on your single hand, trust me, you could just feel slight difference.

Thinking of getting something like this for home use, outside use if needed.
Another will be a USB-C to USB cable for only outside use.

new macbook pro the weight is almost same as current macbook air, so it is portable actually. macbook 12 inch is lighter but consider the screen size of 12 vs 13, they are comparable actually.

most importantly is the power of macbook pro can certainly do more things than 2016 macbook.
*
I don't know. I still subjectively feels MBA is heavier than MBP

yes, the only difference between the two is actually price. 12-inch 256 has a lower starting price. so for those who are price concern only they may choose 12-inch macbook i guess.

but for first and only laptop that one may own, i still feel that macbook pro is the best choice now.
*
I'm okay with anything SSD more than 256.
But I upgraded the ram to 16GB.
I don't think space is of any issue. You can get portable drives, clouds etc. They are good.

it is 1.35kg (macbook air) vs 1.37kg (new macbook pro) so technically no difference actually.

new MBP is certainly thinner and more compact for sure.

the new MBP compare to the old MBP, actually body material feel difference also.
*
Perhaps that's because I compared them while the lids open...

normally i will bring a long the multi adapter (3 in 1) with 1 more usb-c, av (vga) and usb-a no matter indoor or outdoor since the 12-inch macbook only comes with 1 port.

good thing for new macbook pro that there is min 2 port, so one port can use with the power adapter, the other can just use with the usb-c to usb-a adapter (single) for connecting legacy usb-a devices if going for travel etc that do not need projection (VGA or hdmi). If need to do projection then an adapter with display output (vga, hdmi) is still needed.
*
Am getting these two... third party...
Until I have enough money...

actually space is quite important too. it depends if u are doing dual boot for windows or not. 256gb is the minimum size to dual boot. but in long run, 256gb to me, it may not be sufficient, personally even with 512gb for my macbook, with all the applications installed and some always use data inside, there is actually not much space left (about 120 to 130GB free space that I can keep data that are transfer to portable hardisk).
*
Windows, nah... I've another machine run on Windaus 10...
The largest program of install will probably be Microsoft office or SPSS... not going to install any movie or photo editing apps... not going to install any games on it...
I'm still surviving on 120GB MBP 2011 (of course with lagging this and that. That's the only reason for my upgrade)...

if that's the case, then it is not a problem. as mentioned, 256 is already the minimum storage for a laptop nowadays. not to forget, even iphone has 256gb storage as an option.
*
Haha... my iPhone has 128GB. I loaded it with my complete whole sets of iTunes songs, the whole library on iBook which contains hundreds of eBooks and journals, work related, shopping related, study related apps, I haven't even touched half of the phone storage...

Perhaps I'm just a light user.

no, macbook air 1.6Ghz is more powerful.

MB is only good for portability, for given its power, it is still no way near the macbook pro or even macbook air line.

but no point to even consider the outdated MBA now.

its lousy lcd screen cmi given that both MB and MBP has much better screen. and screen is important given the resolution.
so no point to get MBA in any case.

They are still cheap la... I mean MBA...

not really that cheap if u look at what u paid vs what u get.

Of course if u just simply look at the price tag based on Budget point of view then it is.
*
What do you expect woh....

RM4k+ for a laptop with:
Intel Core i5
8GB DDR3 RAM
128GB Flash drive
A LED screen
A reliable multi touch trackpad
A forever-free-upgrade-until-your-hardward-couldn't-support operating system

and more importantly....

A glaring bright Apple logo at the back of the LED screen

Tats for explaining. Means MB is lower grade processor, but new screen, in a nut shell.
If budget permits then get the Pro?
*
Macbook is just like an ultrabook: Light-weighted, compact, portable. But definitely minus point in terms of processing power compared to a regular one.
MBP has 2 usb-c ports; Macbook has only one.
There aren't much difference in terms of price. But if you don't mind the extra 300g (frankly speaking, I do not feel the extra weight. You definitely should compare both in any authorized reseller shops), I would suggest you to get MBP.
And try upgrade the RAM as possible.

My experience is:
I upgraded the RAM to 16GB. At least I need not worry about lagging issue in the future MacOS upgrades (at least for the next 5 years).
Disc space is least of my worries as I can store my files in my portable hard drives or even onto the cloud drives.

Lol.... budget starts at MB at MYR 4k, but end up MBP at near 6k.
Though i get what u mean, more of upgrade for future proof.

for RAM - this is done via Apple or by external? how much does it cost?
*
The RAM and flash drive are soldered.
There is no way to upgrade the RAM of flash drive.
So, think before you make any order/purchase.

It costs RM920 for RAM upgrade to 16GB (from 8GB), same price for upgrade to 512GB flash storage (from 256GB).
Education price is RM50 cheaper for the upgrade (RM200 cheaper for the machine).

Well, I wouldn't call MB's Core M processor as lower grade. They are simply optimised for a fanless design but it is still a fully functional processor. Yes, it can't run 4k FCP @ 60hz.. Not everyone needs that.

I use multiple apps (safari, mail, iTunes, adobe reader, all 3 microsoft office, keynote). Mail has a dozen emails open. Safari has half a dozen browsers open. ALL the time. No sweat. Granted that they are low resource apps, most people will only need these.

If price is a consideration, the MBP13 no touch bar is not too bad. It is RM700 difference for both 256GB/512GB specification vs MacBook.

If size is a consideration, 0.92KG vs 1.37KG does make a difference.

I would only consider MBA if you need a considerable amount of battery life by sacrificing the screen resolution.

Of course its nice to have 16GB ram. Its also nice to have 1TB space but make sure you need it. You can't future proof everything. Ive been using 6-7GB ram consistently for a year plus. Its okay, haven't had a problem still.

Im also always on the move. Its not uncommon that my MacBook sit on my lap when i type (laptop, geddit?). MB Is not hot. Good luck with anything else.

Clueless07, whichever that you choose, I'm sure you'll be happy with it. Choose something that suits you. Don't pay extra for something you don't need. Being good value doesn't mean its cheap. Being cheap doesn't mean it is good value.
*
I agree with you.
"Choose something that suits you" is still important.

If i may interject, if one were to acquire this education discount by a family member who is studying in uni, will Apple end up knowing?

eg:

purchase/CC information doesnt match with the student
the new device is attached to an Apple ID that DEFINITELY doesnt belong to the student
*
Erm, I don't know how to answer you.
As far as I know, Apple Malaysia will only check your identity randomly.
Most of the time Apple doesn't even ask for your identity.
Even if they do check, as long as there is someone in the family has a valid student card, I don't think there is any problem.
