Uncle benny, may I ask how would u rate mate 8 camera vs oppo r7+? I remember u say u choose oppo over mate 7, so how about mate 8?

can someone share the pics taken by mate 8.the camera is my priority before i purchased a smartphone.last time when mate 8 1st introduced the camera reviews is mixed but most of it complaints the blur and grainy results.according to huawei it was a firmware issue and will be tackled on the next update.so its been a while any improvement?

Im using note 5 atm and what a bummer. I tot the camera if not better than nexus 6p at least at the same par but turns out its not what as i expected. Really frustrating.. Like uncle benny,  6" is my ideal size.. Well.. My quest to find such phone with killer camera shall be continued. 😆

Personal opinion on mate 8 vs note 5

Camera is lousier. Especially moving objects. Also takes longer to focus.

Screen less sensitive. At times its frustrating but its still ok. Boleh tahan

Battery. Fuuuu. This is the only reason why i am still using this m8. Its simply awesome.

u are not alone. samsung's touch screen is more sensitive.
i find myself needing to press certain links twice or more to get it thru the phone. did not happen with samsung. dont think its defact. its just both brands use diff touch screen module, and i'd say, samsung had the better one.
not so much on slippery for me.
no issues. matter of getting used to it only.

Today is my 1st time get to hold and play the mate 8. Impression is good. Bright screen, crystal clear as usual produced by Huawei. But it failed to change my mind to replace my note 5 with mate 8. Beside the battery life, I don't see any better, not to say the camera result.

I believe only the battery life and the cpu better than note 5 but not others

sorry noob question here. newly joined android family from iphone to huawei mate 8. may i know how to add chinese pinyin to my keyboard. am using google keyboard but i dont seem to find the settings.

That's Mate 8 Achilles heel.

I am starting to feel this as well. I dont even need close up shots, just normal photos alao struggle cuz it takes abt 1 sec to focus when i hit the shutter button. Sometimea before take photo seems gpod, once taken, and view the photo again, looks blurry
I guess we all have our preference. Sad to say, samsung does have reception issues. I had issues after note 4 onwards. Note 3 era all good.

Used 1 htc, enough adi. Not a fan.

even normal shots not so bearable to me. cant compare to my ex phone. really cant compare. 

Note 5 only conplain was the battery and occasional data freeze.

In all honesty, from a guy coming from Note 5, the Mate 8 is not a bad phone actually. It ticks all the right boxes, the only downside, as with any other Chinese Android phones, are their Android customization and implementation. If the Mate 8 were to run on stock ROM, just like its sibling the Nexus 6p, i am sure that it will seriously kick ass big time.

The trick here is to instead of OS customization, HW could do better in doing app customization instead. Tweak or introduce new apps for camera, gallery, backup, phone mgt, but still stay vanilla. That would make the phone awesome.

It's not a problem of the autofocus, it's a limitation of the lens that cannot focus obiects that are closer than a certain distance (approx 7-8 cm). There are DRLS lens that cost more than the Mate 8 that have the same limitation. If taking close up macros is a must, than there are other cellphones the allow you to get closer to the subject.
More in general, I read in the past a number of complains about the Mate 8 camera and because of these I've waited more than 2 months before deciding to buy one. I have 2 Canon DSRL, a Sony RX100 and a few compact cameras (Canon, Panasonic, Kodak) so it's obvious that quality of the camera for me is one of the most important features in a smartphone. After getting the Mate 8 I must say that I was surprised by the general good quality of the pictures I could snap. After about 6 weeks I would rate the camera with a score around 7/8 (out of 10).

There are better camera phones out there (Huawei P9, Samsung S6 and S7, LG G4, G5 and V10, iPhone 6 and 6S to mention a few) but they are not without faults and often the quality of the pics taken with the Mate is VERY close to them.
Mate 8 has a good general purpose camera, the focus is reliable, the lens is good (I cannot see a significant image degradation at the corners of the image), it has an effective optical image stabilisation, the exposure is good, the colours are natural and even in low ligth and high ISO the pictures are comparable (if not better) to the ones taken with a Canon or Panasonic compact camera.
Limitations of the camera?
- HDR mode is not particularly effective (could be fixed with a sw update)
- not the ideal camera for macros
- some noise is visible even at low ISO in areas of homogeneous colour, in particular the blue of the sky. This is a choice by Huawei in order to preserve the details of the image. The noise can ne easily removed with very little degradation of the image by post processing with sw like DeNoise or Noiseless (for OSX).
- sometimes the white balance (particularly with a cloudy weather or in the shade) is not spot on
- cannot easily freeze fast moving subjects. For that you need a DRLS or maybe you can get more successful shots with the Samsung S7 camera with its new Dual Pixels technology
