is anyone here using the mate8 for heavy gaming? can you share your experiences please on battery drain, frame lags, and system temp?
I tried Modern Combat, Asphalt 8 and FIFA 15. No noticeable frame drops when playing. Battery drain depends on the screen brightness as well, usually I don't play for long so can't comment on this. But if no gaming, my battery can last more than 40 hours with 5.5hours SOT. I don't game a lot so I only can give a brief comment.
So far, this is one of the "coldest" devices I have used before.
Devices I have used before:
Moto G first Gen - Snapdragon 400
Nexus 7 Second Gen - Snapdragon S4
Nexus 5 - Snapdragon 800
Oneplus One - Snapdragon 801
Nexus 6 - Snapdragon 805
Oppo N3 - Snapdragon 801 iinm
Mate 7 - Kirin 92x iinm
Xiaomi Mi4i - Snapdragon 615
So far Mate 8 is the least hot phone I used before. More or less the same usage. Other than gaming, I use Waze a lot and I put my phone in the phone holder on my car's dashboard. So sometimes when the sun is hot (my car cheapskate no tint) and use high brightness. The phone usually will be quite hot, surprisingly mate 8 do quite well in term of temperature.

hi planning to get Mate 8 but not sure whether to choose 3gb or 4gb RAM. is there any big difference felt? I mostly will use for daily msging, surfing. not much gaming.
I was in a dilemma like you when Im buying this phone. I ended up choosing 4gb version because I used Mate 7 2gb before, it does suffer abit when heavy multitasking due to the heavy UI.
So far my mate 8 served me very well, I seldom kill apps and always let it run in the background. Rarely need to restart the apps unless the apps itself not well designed. Quite surprise as this mate 8 is as smooth as nexus devices which is pure android.
