OK my purpose is to unlock bootloader and restore data. Trying to find the easiest way to include WhatsApp video and data. I had not been doing unlock and custom firmware for a long time.

Can I

1. Use Mate 8 backup apps to backup to MicroSD Card
2. Unlock Bootloader - will erase data not sure if all the data
3. After unlock I think personal data and apps is erased.
4. Will use Mate Backup to Restore the backup data from the MicroSD

Will this works.

why not just backup your whatsapp to google drive and restore it to new phone?

superb. i used zf5 previously so to compare its a huge improvement haha.
i like its battery. so far can stand around 1.5 days usage.

I had never use HW backup but I think is backup to cloud only and not onto ext sdcard
Unlock BL will erase everything in phone except default stuffs
Whatsapp - just select backup to Google

FYI the Backup in the Tools on the Mate 8 support backup to SD Card, Internal Storage, USB Storage and Computer. Will give that a try once I get my high speed 64GB MicroSD card tomorrow.

The WiFi passwords will not be backup.

When you backup WhatsApp to Google Drive, it will create a set of local copy in internal sdcard folder named "WhatsApp" If you hate about the long waiting of backup to Google Drive you can copy the entire WhatsApp folder to somewhere safe.

Do note that only apk being backup...not actually the apps data.
I migrated from my mate 7 to mate 8 using the huawei backup thru hisuite to computer, restoration will only install app, not returning app to previous settings or data.
Abit misleading to begin with..im actually hoping the android 6.0 will keep the app data too...but not really in actual.
Not sure the best way to backup the app data

Hi guys, plan to buy this phone soon, my currently phone is ip6plus n mediapad x1, the things I concern is the big screen n batteries life n is not bad on huawei mediapad x1, just my X1 now is a bit buggy n laggy...so is time to change a new one, prefer huawei cause for the good experience on it n good review I read, mate 8 is now the primary choices on my list, just one more thing I need to know before I place my order, pls to ask u guys, does the mate 8 batteries life is better than mediapad X1 or not ? If not too much different or its even better, than I will go straight for the 4gb version
