No serious cons

Minor cons :

- you might need to get used to HW UI . If you don't like just use any 3rd party launcher but than you lose the flexibility to change to any of its large variety of themes
- camera is not that super excellent but is good enough for most common folks. Just don't compare it to S7e or LG v10 which has to date the best camera in its class
- display is only 1080p but seriously I cannot see any significant differences with those 2K display phones unless one has microscopic vision !!
- well it is 6 inches display and not everyone can accept such a big display size ??

Stop looking if you are trying to find the perfect 10/10 phone - it doesn't exist. Even on the renown iphone 6s+ ( which I have) I can write a full essay why it is still imperfect

Nobody can decide for you
Just decide based on your budget n which phone features are more important to you

That will depend on individual as each phone has its pro n cons
I had used so many type of Androids n yet to find the best phone
Which is better will depend on one's important needs /features on the phone

Optical image stabilization - this will reduce/or even eliminate shake effects while taking any camera shot

Do ask HW?? And is only Leica certified lens n not actually Leica lens. A big misled by HW

Mate8 has indeed the coolest operating temperature phone vs so many others I had used recently eg Nexus 6p, S7e, LG V10, F1 plus

By default mate8 allows you to set ext sdcard as internal storage
Choose it at settings /storage

Is a 100 % pure fact

How close you need ?? If ip6s cannot even satusfy you, dont expect much from Mate 8

However you will see a nasty warning about phone insecure at every bootup. Locking back the BL will remove this warning

You can try to mod it to do that
The risk is possibly you will fail to eject the card tray due to poor mod

No need . You can get it immediately by logging into HW site. I had posted before the details here how to root the phone

What size are your pics
It won't hang at all on normal photos even up to 6-7 mb in size

Than absolutely no such problems on mine. I sent on average at least 10+ pictures daily. Perhaps you can try to reset the phone
I fact I had no experience of pics causing hang on whatsapp on my other phones too
